View Full Version : Welcome to Honda599.com
I have hopes for this site. One day I'll even make sure to upgrade the hosting plan and get rid of that damn GoDaddy banner at the top!
This is my hornet. My second one, actually, but that's a story for another time.

Good Luck and I hope it does well. :D

damnage 10-06-2006, 03:11 PM Thanks for finally doing something with this domain name. Nice to have a site based in the US. I've lurked at the hornet's nest UK site since last March.
Thanks for putting this site up!

You're most welcome James! It took a while before I finally decided to give phpBB Forum software a shot. It looked ugly and semi-useless, but then I found various templates that make it bearable and make it more functional... like this one (credits to the creator on the bottom) and life was good again!
Thanks for finally doing something with this domain name. Nice to have a site based in the US. I've lurked at the hornet's next UK site since last March.

TieMyShoe 10-07-2006, 03:55 AM Hi Alex and our small community of Hornet supporters,
This is Tai, I guess you can't really have a site for 599/Hornet without your original bike around for that story you are going to tell.
Tai!!!
Welcome to the new forum.
Tai over here bought my first 599 and made her as good as new! Lots of pictures of her on the South Bay Riders forum.

J-nuine 10-07-2006, 05:54 PM Hi Alex,
Would like to give a shout out from Southern Calif. thanks for creating this community - owner of a 04 599 asphault... out of my rider friends i'm the only black sheep out of overly conservative faired out riders here in the states. : )

I'm super pleased with the responses I'm getting, and it makes me ever so glad I finally did something with this domain. A few people offered to chip in to get a better hosting plan to get rid of this damn banner at the top and I will certainly take them up on it. In 3 days, 25 members! I think we're doing well!!! :rad
I do have an account on BARF, but I hardly ever go there. I'm an SBR addict though. :0)

Anyways, I've been a member of the UK hornets nest, but its nice to finally have a site over here for these bikes. Maybe it will be easier to track down bits and pieces for the bikes!!!
cesu pro 10-10-2006, 08:14 PM hello everyone, tack another "OC'er" on the list,... got me a yellow 04 stock as a virgin (for now).....
good luck with the forums! if i knew ANYbody else with a 599 i'd definatley tell them about it, unfortunatley.... i do not....
Alex, maybe you should talk to the forum leader over at the hornet's nest UK and see if he'd let you advertise on their forums towards the american members you know? i dont see why they should mind, and it'd probably add a good amount of members,.... but you never know...
anyways Hello all!
djamalt 10-10-2006, 11:04 PM What's good everyone!!? D here coming at you from L.A. - have an '06, shinny and black, with Ermax belly pan Hind-Sight bar end mirrors and Powerbronze seat cowl. Looking to tear out that fender and get a new pipe soon. But anyway, I'm so glad Alex put a spot online for us 599'ers to connect. Thanx man.
Cesu's got a good idea. I know I spent a lot of time across the virtual pond digging for info on the UK's nest.
antihero 10-11-2006, 08:22 AM Just bought my brand new '06 Black 599 yesterday have been filled with joy ever since. I live in Charleston, SC and I'm glad to see more streetfighter riders out there. BTW, I'm a web developer if you need any advice or help. I'll try to help out if I can.
J-nuine 10-11-2006, 12:13 PM Also have you checked out Project919.com the hornet's bigger brother has a website with a lot of tips and tricks that can be helpful too : )

2wheelwobbler 01-26-2007, 02:11 PM Hi. Just rode my 0 miles 2006 599 home from the dealer. Im stoked and impressed too. This is my first bike, though ive ridden a couple of others but not much. So far i like the suspension over the bumps, i love the power even down low, its easy to tell its building so it doesnt surprise you. And riding through the neighborhood i was practicing counter steering around the little reflective things in the road about 35. It seems very nimble. Havent been past 5-6000 on the tach, im going to try to break it in right, but i can tell this things gonna be fun.
Oh and, im in Florence, SC. And yes its about 40 degrees outside, but i still managed to get in about 35 miles today, and i had the numb hands (from the cold) to prove it :D .
Love it.
I'm stoked for you! I remember the day I rode my first 599 around the block in San Francisco. It was nothing short of awesome!
A few words of advice - get good gear! Never ride without a helmet. Protect all skin you'd like to keep. And get frame sliders ASAP so when you happen to drop the bike it doesn't get damaged.

cfcats 03-18-2007, 07:37 PM I just got my first motorcycle (2006 599) right after getting my license in August of 2006. It's a great first bike and I'm getting very excited about taking some nice long trips with it. Thanks for setting up this forum for the 599 in the U.S. I knew I was not alone when I "fell" for this bike!..... :D
Welcome Carol! Congrats on passing the test and getting a great bike.
gr599 03-28-2007, 09:49 PM Hey all! Glad to find this site. I was referred by a guy on Temple of Vtec (I have an 06 Si). I have been to UK hornets Nest, glad to see a US site too. I have an 04 Asphalt 599, this will be my 4th summer for it. Only have 6800 miles on it. It was a crappy riding summer last year, and winters here are long and hard (NW Pa). Anyway, glad to be here!

cannon 07-03-2007, 07:25 PM Hello! I have just joined the forum. I own an '06 599 and have about 1100 miles on it. I love the bike, but hate the insurance.
Looking forward to learning more about my ride from this forum.
djamalt 07-03-2007, 09:28 PM I love the bike, but hate the insurance.
Really? How much are you paying? From what it seems, the general consensus is that we really get over on insurance with the 599. You might want to check out one of the insurance discussions on this forum...
But before I forget - WELCOME & Great choice of bike :thumbsup

I will be looking up the insurance threads cause I need some relief!
I am paying over $100 a month through progressive (36yo, 2 home owner, with 2 cars and no vehicle accidents EVER!). I called several companies and all of them lumped the 599 into the CBR sportbike category. I use Progressive now but they still consider it a sport bike (according the the agent I talked to). It is confusing that they wouldn't be able to differentiate between the two because I saw that the Honda Riders Club is linked to Progressive.
BTW I think the forum looks great. I am excited to see a forum dedicated to the 599.
cfcats 07-04-2007, 01:53 PM When I purchased my '06 599, the salesperson got me quotes from several different insurance companies (since my automobile insurer does not insure motorcycles)...that was when I learned that different insurers categorize the 599 differently. Foremost (the company I went with) offered me full coverage (a 12 month policy) at a very reasonable rate. I, too, have an excellent driving track record. The key seems to be that Foremost does NOT categorize the 599 as a sport bike. Their rates, in my opinion, are more than fair.
JHenley17 07-04-2007, 06:24 PM If you have State Farm available, you might want to check them out. I've got full coverage for a little under $150/month from them, and I'm only 19. Even without MSF discount (my agent doesn't for some reason, but I know others with State Farm that did get it), they were a good bit cheaper than my Geico and Progressive quotes after all discounts.
Welcome Cannon! :thumbsup
As far as insurance goes.. just from what I'm hearing you might be paying too much. I think it will be worth your time to shop around some more... try going through independent agents. I woiuld guess most people pay somewhere in the vicinity of 600 a year for full coverage. (But that's a conversation for another topic.)

gvucko 07-30-2007, 02:53 AM Greetings from Slovenia, Europe.
Just wan't to give my support to this site.
I am a proud owner of Honda Hornet S (a half faired version that, as I understand, was not avaliable in the States).
best regards,
greg
djamalt 07-30-2007, 10:50 PM Slovenia!!! You guys must have some incredible mountain roads to ride out there. I shiver just thinking about it, in a good way. WELCOME!!!
crucial_d 07-31-2007, 04:31 PM I should go looking for the insurance thread, but I don't have time at the moment and want to weigh in on the insurance discussion. I'm insured through Country Financial (37, no accidents, homeowner) and I'm paying $20 per month for motorcycle insurance. I have a combo policy with my '06 Nissan Altima. I was told by my agent that Country Insurance goes by engine size only when determining rates.
They've got an A+ rating on several insurance carrier rating sites I researched before going with them.
cannon 08-18-2007, 10:55 AM Good news! My insurance bill finally showed up for the 599. $450 for a years coverage! Progressive reviewed the policy (on their own I might add) and concluded that the quoted coverage was too expensive. Plus they drop $50 off if I pay it immediately. Good for them, because once I got off my lazy butt I was gonna find another company to provide coverage.
I am thrilled because this was my only major drawback with the bike and even made me consider selling. Not anymore!
victor 08-27-2007, 07:31 PM Hello from Vancouver! Best wishes to all and good luck. It is great to have a site like this dedicated to the 599.

djamalt 09-04-2007, 07:57 PM Sweet, you made a good purchase decesion. Glad you did, and glad you could join us.
skeeter 09-13-2007, 10:38 PM hello fellow riders, i bought my 06 599 in the spring of 06..., since then, i have cut the fender off; giving it very clean lines; added an integrated tail light(smoke colored lens), removed the stock 15 tooth counter sprocket and added a 14 tooth sprocket;(this added a little more buzz in the bars and pegs but now skeeter's 2nd and 3rd gears are monstrous and the front end becomes a little light when flogged around town (quite fun, free horse power, well...25$)). also added a givi wind screen (highly recomended, so is the sprocket, witch was easy to install buy myself), and added a two brothers exaust with a sound surpresor to avoid atracting too much attention but really all it does is supress the really high pick chain saw sound and creats a very deap exhaust note. took some pics today to add with forum but cant figure out how to put them on.n e ways this is my first forum ever. im looking forward to sharing n e info i can with u guy...oh yea what a kik ass motor bike weve got!
skeeter 09-13-2007, 10:59 PM oh yea i also have motovation frame sliders:very nice, easy to install, good costomer service, highly recomended. id like to hear info on rear huggers and belly pans if n e 1 has installed them on ther 599, already in gloss black or carbon fiber to match my 2bros exhaust.
Welcome to the forum Skeeter. Take a look at the Accessories and Modifications section of the forum to find lots of info on various stuff you can buy for your bike. There's also a thread in the Pictures section that describes how to post images. Alternatively, when you're replying or writing a new post, look under the textarea box for "To add images to this post:" directions, they should help as well. If you're still having trouble, let me know.
Cheers!
LittleInsect 11-08-2007, 06:00 PM Hi
I'm the LittleInsect, and I'm CoE of the Hornet's Nest
www.hondahornet.co.uk (http://www.hondahornet.co.uk)
Here's to co-operation between our two sites
599001 11-08-2007, 06:28 PM Welcome, and I recognized the name right away...good to have you with us!
Silverwing 11-14-2007, 11:18 PM I look forward to visiting this site. I have an '06 599.
djamalt 11-15-2007, 03:46 PM TX seems to be developing a nice little 599 community. Welcome!!!
Silverwing 11-15-2007, 10:45 PM The Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex (DFW) area can be somewhat inhospitable to cyclists. Traffic is increasing significantly. I tend to stay as far North of the city as possible on backroads near Denton, Texas. I feel a bit safer when there are fewer cars around. Just a bit too dangerous to play chicken on I35 and I635 for my taste. DFW is a motorcycle town...no doubt. I see about as many go-fasts as I do Harleys. Both communities seem to get along pretty well.
I like the 599 because it has a unique look to it and you don't see them everywhere. It is a great bike for the beginner and the experienced rider alike. My first bike was a '74 Honda CL450 I bought in mint condition for $400. Later, I progressed (stepped backward!) to an '82 Suzuki GN400, then on to an '85 Honda VF500F Interceptor, then an '89 Yamaha FZR 600. Finally, I landed a '06 599 after waiting about 15 years to buy my first brand new bike.
I have to say I loved my VF500F. Unfortunately, the 25th anniversary edition Interceptor was to steep for me. I am grateful to be on the 599 and I hope to have it for many years to come. I considered other sport bikes, but seemed to keep gravitating back to the 599. ...Something about it...I don't know... I have not lost any of the sporting capabilities with the 599 and, in fact, have signifcantly improved my riding comfort level, especially over the FZR.
Still trying to figure out how to post pics. I'll get the hang of it soon.
Ride Safe!
599 is an awesome bike. I've been riding one for almost 2 years now and I love it more now than I did when I first got it. I do, at times, have the desire to jump on a supersport, but I get over it.
Here's a little write up on how to post pictures:

Mitch 01-11-2008, 11:30 PM Hey there everyone,
I've been excited about my 2006 599 ever since I heard about it from a friend. I got a new one 3 months ago, and I haven't regretted it since. It's my first bike, and I think I ended up getting the perfect bike right out of the gate. The forums are great, and I've really enjoyed reading them so far.
I also wanted to add that I live in the East Bay of the SF Bay Area. Contact me if you're headed out riding.
Congrats on getting your new ride! Hopefully, when the roads in the Santa Cruz mountains dry out, the Bay Area folks can get together for a ride.
:welcome to the forum
Mitch 01-14-2008, 02:03 PM That sounds great. I haven't gone out for a long ride yet, and I bought my bike at the beginning of the rainy season so it's been a bummer so far. At least we can still ride all year long.

Tinks599 03-29-2008, 08:04 PM Hi, I'm in Conway, Arkansas. That's about 35 miles northwest of Little Rock. I've had 'Tinks Hornet' since October 2004 (brand new) and am near 34k miles. I'm on my 4th set of tires and someone from the Adventure Rider site said my bike looked like a battle scared beast...(thanks Jackson).
Ok, so I've dropped her a bit, you know, just testing out the grit rating of asphalt, that's all. My first and only new vehicle. :idonno
My husband rides a V-Strom. Our roommate rides an SV650. Those are great bikes, but they aren't my baby. My mods are pretty minimal and mostly functional. I'll maintain my bike before I'll wash it, so my pictures won't get the ooohs and aaahhs of a clean bike. :wtf
Oh well, I'm looking around. I figure I will post some obligatory ride reports. Pictures, places, that kind of thing. I'm not sure what the normal currency is around this place, but ride reports are a big deal in the other places I hang out. We love to do them, anyhow.
Good on ya' for having this forum. I wish I'd have seen it sooner. All these resources. I'm doing a lot of catching up now.
I'm available for questions about roads around the twisties in Arkansas, if need be. We do our fair share of riding around this place.
jfeagin 03-29-2008, 10:44 PM :welcome Hi, Tinks. Haven't been in your neck of the woods in about five years, but I recall some really nice roads out that way. Not too far from some really great fishing, too. :) Used to get out there a few times a year. Anyway, I believe that if you took a poll, you'd find more than a few scratched bikes among the group. Good company here.

There seem to be some AR riders on there. I for one love the Ride Reports on it and advrider.com, so keep em coming.
Rich.
Tinks599 03-30-2008, 09:41 AM Oh, I have a couple, few...lots. We ride a lot, and we are commuters. I don't post my commutes, but we have over 1300 pictures of our Arkansas rides. I'm the riding wuss in my household. I have about 10-11k miles per year. My husband and roommate do about 15-20k.
:welcome Tinks. I saw you already posted a ride report - very nice! - just what we need more of. Thanks!

djamalt 05-15-2008, 12:45 PM Welcome. Quick question... where does one ride in Chicago?
a4naught 05-19-2008, 06:01 PM Hi all,
I have been lurking on this site for the last couple weeks in preparation.
2004 Asphalt 599 which is sitting in a local shop right now, awaiting appraisal and service. I have been feverishly googling all manner of accessories in the hopes that any repair/service bill will not gobble up the last of my bucks before I sell my previous rides:
Buell Blast
Honda Reflex
So happy to have found a US forum! I feel like an ADDICT!
Super Sneaky Steve 05-20-2008, 05:35 AM :welcome The 599 will feel like a rocket compared to those other bikes. Enjoy and ride safe!
a4naught 05-20-2008, 05:59 PM Thanks for the welcome! :D
Sneaky,
You might be surprised by the Blast. It's only after about 70 mph that you really begin to see the diff. Very mid-range torquey. But, where the Hornet really shines so far in my limited experience is that it is rock solid at higher speeds. Yea, I had some short bursts of fun going from 70-85 in a jiff when I first picked up the bike the other day. Nice to have some top end before hitting the throttle stop! I think I'm gonna enjoy.
BTW, I really _love_ your videos! Thanks for really adding to the content and how-to!
Hi back! :woohoo

I hear Street Triple mirrors are a great alternative. So are mirrors from Shiver/Tuono. Check out the Accessories section for more possibilities.
omari246 06-01-2008, 09:02 AM hi all, pleased to be a member of this site, ive recently became fasinated with the 599. ive never ridden a bike before, but i intend to buy one. i was looking a sport bikes, but then had my eyes opened about the dangers of them to biginners. i was then refered to some standard models. from sv650 to bandit 600, then i saw the hornet. ive viewed the site and its very cool, like the bike pics. they have inspred me to customise my ride when i do get it, and as soon as i do, i will post pics of my own. cheers to all members...
JHenley17 06-01-2008, 02:34 PM Make no mistake... it's not quite as powerful as a brand-new 600 supersport, but it's still got sportbike power. I chose it as my first bike as well, but don't underestimate it. I've ridden other supersports that feel virtually the same power-wise, maybe even down on the midrange.
But welcome, and good luck!
djamalt 06-01-2008, 09:16 PM Hey a Bajan. Riding on that island sounds pretty tight. I don't think you're giving up too much by going with the 599 instead of a supersport. YES, you are giving up some, but for a first bike, not more than you'd probably be able to truly appreciate. And beside, up to 60mph, you can probably beat a lot of "faster" bikes off the line, and have little problem keeping up with them. But anyway. WELCOME!!!
yeroC 06-02-2008, 05:35 AM Welcome O!!
hondahoney 06-23-2008, 03:04 PM I am really glad to find this site and join. I am always looking for accessories and neat stuff to do to my 599. Can't wait to look through the threads more for great ideas!

there are 5 of us now!!

Super Sneaky Steve 06-27-2008, 05:47 AM Hey there new guy.
TexasWombat 07-11-2008, 08:59 AM Yep, another convert.
In June I purchased an 04 599 with 3k miles on it and damn, am I a happy camper! Best bike I have ever owned. I grew up on the dirt, then went to cruisers. I still plan to play in the dirt, but I doubt I'll ever own another cruiser.
I look forward to chatting with y'all and learning more about the Hornet.

Alatron 09-10-2008, 03:29 PM You've got another Canadian on your hands!
I Picked up a 2004 599 Asphalt a week ago and I love everything about it. This bike is my first and I was a little worried to start out on a 600cc inline four, but it's a forgiving bike and I'm really glad I bought it. Plus, it looks amazing and I'm one of the few that actually own one in Newfoundland :).
S-WordsXGN 09-10-2008, 06:22 PM Hi, I'm Matt - 5' 9", 140 lbs, 21 years, Arizona resident, and very proud Honda 599 owner.
Picked up my bike about 2 months ago. Bought it used for 5,100 USD, which I consider a very good deal considering the bike was practically new. Never dropped, raced, abused, garage kept, and only 571 miles on it. She was never being ridden, I had to save her :D .
This is my first bike, only experience I've ever had was the beginner MSF course. I was a little nervous about starting on a 600cc bike, but I've quickly become accustomed to the bike after these last 2 months.
I have had a single drop on the bike, though it was very minor. It was in the garage when I was just sitting on the bike, I must of accidentally moved the stand. So when I went to get off the bike, it just tipped over. I had only 1 foot on the ground so I couldn't get the leverage to hold it up, and I had to slowly let it down. Thankfully I had already installed some Puig frame sliders. So the only damage is a small scuff, maybe the size of a grain of rice, on the cowl, and a small scuff to the left mirror which I plan to replace anyway. Needless to say I felt like a complete idiot for the rest of the week.
Otherwise it has been a lot of fun, a ton in fact. I never thought before that I would ride a bike, but when gas got to over 4 dollars, I decided to go for it. Now I never want to drive a car again, they're no fun at all.
I hope to contribute what little I can to you guys, and learn whatever I can. Thanks for having me.
Here's a pick of me and the bike when I first got it.

Fireball62 06-04-2009, 11:44 AM Hi, I am Larry. I have a 2006 Honda 599. All I have so far is a small windshield and sliders from Twisted Throttle. I want to make my bike more rocket like. Thinking of adding clip ons, two brothers exhaust, nicer mirrors and grips. I live by Lake Powell in Arizona. I am an Iraqi veteran and just want to relax. I like this site because I have tons of questions, most of them probably goofy and stupid to you seasoned riders and mechanically inclined! I met someone on a 599 by Marble Canyon overlook who told me about this site. Thanks to you if you read this and remember.

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single badass wheelie."

That's the truth. I don't know if I could get 730 lbs of steel up on one wheel. Especially since the Raider is "chopper inspired" and has a really long wheel base. It does put out 125 lb-in of torque though so it still gets up and goes. So much more comfortable than all my previous bikes and still attacks curves with the best of them, only dragging pegs a lot more.
carlitos_92 06-10-2009, 08:23 PM It does put out 125 lb-in of torque.
You probably mean "lb-ft" since that is how they typically measure it... but that's still a lot. It's more than my car has.
If that Raider won't get the front wheel up, it might lay one mother of a scratch, at least.
LUCIUS 06-29-2009, 09:27 PM Good luck on that 599 ,make sure you wear your gear and watch out for drivers on cell phones .

haha, yeah. But if this guy can get his M109 up on one, I could maybe get mine up there. It's lighter than that. I may have to load up the backend like this big boy.

DH919 07-17-2009, 09:53 PM Well, I've been here for a little while now, but I thought I'd say Hey, and that I love this forum...
jplace 08-06-2009, 02:03 PM I have been a member for about a year and a half but have not been very active on this site. I have made a few minor adjustments to my bike and love seeing all these 599s. I am going on a big ride this weekend and am looking foward to being the only one on a 599.
DH919 08-06-2009, 08:50 PM I had a harley buddy that could yank a 3-4 foot wheelie on his sportster 1200
Brasco11 08-25-2009, 12:23 PM Hello All, My names Donnie. I'm new to the 599 forum. I've been checking out the posts the last few days and I have to say their pretty informative. I'm currently in the process of selling my 250 and upgrading to a 599. I ended up running into this site by accident in searching for 599's. Being new to the whole motorcycle scene, it's great to have a place where you can go if you have a question about anything. Thanks for making this site!!!

Brasco11 08-28-2009, 08:16 AM Thanks you guys!!! Quick question to all. And more I think about it this is a very broad question. I'm going to look at my first 599 tomorrow to hopefully purchase. Other than the basic stuff to look for when purchasing a motorcycle, is there anything in particular I should look for on the 599's that tend to go bad? The bike is a 2006 with 1900 miles, supposedly never been dropped, abused, etc. Any advice would be appreciated.
w21irving 08-30-2009, 10:12 PM well, i went to pick mine up used from a dealership in bumblefuck, wisconsin, and found it to be missing a horn, rear brake wiring harness was shot, deaderz battery, and the rear wheel was waaay misaligned[unfortunately i didnt find that one out until on my way home on the bike when i lifted off my hands to test it].
But most of these things you should be able to find just by doing a good look-over on the vehicle. You know, kick the tires, check front brake, rear brake, headlights, turnsignals, throttle response [specifically the spring-back], clutch operation, shifting, bounce the suspension....ask them to take it on a test ride and retest all these items in motion for double the fun!
Breezy 09-02-2009, 11:08 PM Hey there everyone, names Aaron, ridin an '04 599 asphalt color, student at Texas Tech and livin in lubbock hence the screename if youve ever been here...had the bike bout a year, thought id finally join the forum after readin for a while, got some awesome info here thanks

2TEAK 09-05-2009, 09:12 PM Hey Everyone - new to the forum and my first post.
I bought my 04 599 Asphalt in July and if it was comfortable sleeping in the garage with it I would. I want to take the opportunity to thank JBarx, Carlitos92, Super Sneaky Steve, and Billy from Philly and many more... for videos and posts. I learnt alot about my bike even before getting my hands on the manual. Cheers!
Sunset 599 09-08-2009, 09:37 AM Hello all - Just joined the forum last week and have really enjoyed looking trough the various posts and pictures people have included. I have had my '06 599 for a little over two years now and have NO plans to get rid of her anytime soon. There are some great modifications people have made that have helped me to refine a few ideas I have been knocking around for my own bike. Thanks to the site creator and all of you for your insights! With any luck I will be able to provide a few pictures of my own bike and recent rides in the coming months.:ride

DL599 09-23-2009, 04:33 PM Just bought a 2006 black 599 (yesterday)w/ 1500 miles on it. I've downsized from a Vulcan 900 that I just couldn't get comfortable on. So far it's a very different ride. lol.
I'm thinking about raising the bars a bit and was wondering if anyone knows anything about moving the pegs forward? I haven't ridden many miles yet, but those are things I'm considering. It sure is fun so far.

Welcome, congrats, and the change from a mid-size cruiser to the 599 isn't necessarily down sizing.
There are some bar risers on TwistedThrottle.com.

Interesting, most folks on here seem to move the pegs back and/or up and move the bars down. C'est la vie. WELCOME!!!
snugglz599 09-28-2009, 01:52 PM hey all,

anyways, seems like there's a lot of knowledgeable folks on this forum so i look forward to hearing any advice y'all have.

Keep your eye on the "for sale" section and on craiglist. You'd be surprised how many of these gems turn up. You might have to travel a little though.

I was thinking the same thing, while my bars and pegs are in their factory locations, moving them back seems to be a popular mod.
It's been said before, but Welcome! Enjoy the Ride!

Joe3rivers 05-01-2010, 11:56 AM Hi 599ers,
I am a life long rider and so is my son. We am looking for aftermarket front fork spring set. My son's 599 dives like a submarine evertime he hits the front brakes. Does anyone know where I can get a spring kit for a 2006 (factory inverted forks) pre ferably an aftermarket set that has better preformance? Or, does know of a compatible fork swap out? Say from some other make or model bikes fork tubes that have better preformance, and fit the 2005-6 inverted fork 599? We have looked all over the web for a stiffer spring set and no one carries them!?!
I know this bike ha a great following in Europe any one over there know of a place to buy aftermarket springs for this bike? Thanks for reading my

Sweet. Welcome!
If you go riding tomorrow, remember to ride at your OWN PACE. Trying to keep up with people even with 6 months under their belt can get you into trouble. So don't worry about pride or any of that... just enjoy the ride! :thumbsup

clarkjoe1986 08-01-2010, 12:03 PM Just picked up a 2004 yellow 599. I am new to this site also. My name is Joe, and I live in northwest Indiana. This 599 is my first bike, and I am hooked. So far, I have done a fender eliminate and an integrated turn signal in the rear. I am looking into the clear alternatives, but not sure with all the reviews I have read. It is nice to have a place with so much information on the 599, and so many stories. Thanks to all for your posts, and thanks for the site.
Job 4 a sniper 08-07-2010, 09:41 AM I just bought my 2006' 599 about 2 weeks ago and I love it. My last bike was a blue 2006 Honda Shadow Spirit 1100 and the 599 makes the Shadow seem like a tractor. I am stationed at Fort Hood Texas and its about 103F right now, just warm enough to ride.
yeroC 08-07-2010, 10:14 AM Welcome clark and sniper!!

Hello from Jersey, thats New Jersey. To start, I ride a 2004 that I bought used in 07' with 3k on the dial, clean as a whistle. It was love at first site, charcoal gray and silver. The fact of it being a naked sports bike was very appealing to me, owning a 68' BSA and a 79' Harley, you can imagine what was in store for me.
Will add what I can to the forum and looking forward to help from you guys when needed, so let the good times roll and sting um when you can.

Clutch75 08-17-2010, 07:53 AM New member from East Texas - Always wanted a motorcycle, so on my 35th birthday (July 2010) my buddy let me take over payments on a 2007 Honda Shadow Spirit 1100. Since 07/25 I have ridden 1800 miles and havent really gone anywhere!! I thought I would buy this bike to see if I liked riding and then after a year or so, find somehting bigger and better and more me. It took less than a month!! I really like the look and concept of the Honda Hornet - I like to go "quick" not "fast" if that makes sense - your not gonna see me doing 150 mph, but you might catch me blowing off the line from red light to red light - I like to see how quick I can get to 85, not how fast I can go. I recently rode a buddies '08 GSX-R600 and the first ? I had for him was, "Are you sure your speedometer is on the money?" I looked down and I was doing 87, felt like 45, think I was in 3rd gear!! I want something that is "quick", somewhat comfortable, and looks mean as hell and the Honda Hornet looks like it fits the bill.
Any and all recommendations, opinions, suggestions, etc are welcome - from what bike to buy to what tires to run, to riding tips? I guess my first ? is - "Is it good to downshift and use the transmission to slow you down like a vehicle, or should I just pull clutch, hold it in (at say 50mph) and coast into the stop?" Im not taling about downshifting and popping the clutch - not aggressive, tire squawking down-shifting.... Also, what is the best year model Hornet to buy? Last ? - what is a steering stabilizer and what benefits does a rider get?
thanks........Clutch75

Creakinbones 01-08-2011, 01:40 AM :welcomeDam. Pull up a chair.
I think I know Guelph. I've definately been there anyway. Does it still have a Scottish Butchers shop and an old style red telephone box?
dam427 01-08-2011, 06:45 PM Just got possession of it today! Woohoo!!!
Red phone box? Scottish Butcher? I don't know. It's entirely possible. I've not explored all of this town since moving here.

I could be getting mixed up. Spent a morning walking round. Struck me as a nice place to be.
Enjoy the bike. Nice list of mods:thumbsup.
Hey there, been 'lurking' on this forum for a couple of months now, waiting until I actually got my bike before registering. I just bought my 2004 Yellow 599, and am anxiously awaiting being able to ride it! (The guy I bought it from had it sitting for 2 yrs with some funky gas in it, thankfully I have a friend who is excellent with motorcycles!) I'm a new rider from AZ, where we have great riding weather basically 10 months of the year. I've been riding a Triumph Bonneville, but am looking forward to the 599 experience  Anyway, I'm really looking forward to getting to know all the outs and ins of my new baby, and am using the modifications y'all have made for ideas of what I want to do!

:welcome There a part of the forum for mods, take a look...
You'll find that everyone here is very helpfull, however, the same question being asked over and over again gets kinda annoying for the guys that have been here for a longer period of time.
Have fun tho!!!

Yeah, I agree with the annoying part - luckily I like to read, so I have no problem going through all the pages! I do have a really good friend who is a Honda guy (rides a CBR900RR, and is an excellent mechanic!) and is giving me lots of patient help on general stuff, but I've been trolling all the mod pages here and am starting to plan some stuff for the future. The way I see it, I gotta get my first 'bike drop' under my belt before I do too much to it...
yeroC 02-28-2011, 10:20 AM Welcome aboard Rio. Drinks are on the new guy. And try to make that 'drop' be at 2mph in the driveway!!
marcusbrody599 02-28-2011, 06:55 PM hi everyone. new here but already posted under repair " honda running like a harley"---- (winter start in canada...brutal!).. which was part my own stupidity anyway.

zephaniahad 03-20-2011, 09:19 AM Hello All,
Just purchased an 04 of my very own. I used to have a couple 78 CB750s and I still have a place in my heart for the classics but I've had an eye for the Hornet since I first glimpsed one back in 04. I think new one is tuned well but I'll have to get the advise of others for now. It's got a Two Brothers bolt on exhaust and a stage one jet kit so I hope the kit complements the exhaust properly. I've yet to really open her up or take her on a long trip to see how she'll behave but I'll keep you posted. The previous owner recently did a coolant flush and used "Engine Ice" as the coolant because he said it was getting kinda hot. He said it's better now but I'm still concerned that it's possibly running lean...Well I guess that's enough for now.:thinking
