View Full Version : California - SF Bay Area
I'll do this first. I'm in San Jose, CA. I personally only know one guy who rides a 599 other than me. I'd love to meet more people...
If you live in the area, reply to this post.
If you live in another State or another part of California, for example, start a new thread and name it in the following way: State - City
Thanks! :D
Chris G 10-06-2006, 11:58 AM Your not to far from me but it would be one hell of a ride from Orange County.

 tell me about it! Every time I drive to LA I want to kill myself. It's a scenic but loooooooooooong a$$ drive!
dabinche 10-08-2006, 08:33 PM I'm in SJ, just got my bike a little over a month ago, still breaking it in and getting use to it
Awesome! Is this your first bike? We can go riding one of them days when you feel a little more comfortable on your Hornet.

lo39cal 10-09-2006, 01:06 PM hey alex, i'm down for a hornet ride. i live in the sf/dc area, your just right around the block from me :ride :D . i've seen a few 599 around, and a few more 919's, but that's about it.
Great!
Have you heard about Yamaha's unveiling of their 2007 line at Alice's Restaurant this coming Saturday morning? I'm going to be there. Would be a nice ride for you down Skyline.

lo39cal, (I hate not knowing people's names)
I'm definitely going to Alice's tomorrow to see the Yamaha 2007 line unveiling. A friend of mine will meet me where I live (By San Jose Airport) and we'll take Saratoga to 9 to Skyline on the way to Alices... and then after the "show" go ride some more.
You should join us.
lo39cal 10-15-2006, 09:43 PM alex,
sorry i'm late on this reply. i saw the pictures that you posted, very nice.
you know i've never even been up to alice's. or a group ride for that matter.
i wish i could get out and ride more on the weekends. we definitly have to hook up one of these weekends.
dabinche 11-04-2006, 02:25 AM looks like there are six of us here in the bay are and two in sac town so once the warm season comes around we should have a get together, mini meet. And by then maybe there will be more of us here
I agree, we should definitely plan something for Spring. 8)
djamalt 11-05-2006, 08:36 PM Sounds hot. Maybe the So Cal Nest will be able to get together and make that trek up there. Wishful thinking, maybe, but ya never know...
Going riding to the Santa Cruz mountains tomorrow morning... anybody cares to join me?
Ben599 04-25-2007, 11:34 AM I have had my bike for a year now and a few guys that I ride with have moved and I am looking for new people to ride with. Especially people who understand the 599. Let me know if you want to take a ride around San Fran or the bay. I am always up for it!
Anyone in the Bay Area up for a ride tomorrow (04.28.07) morning? I'm going to try to wake up early (to be at Alice's by 8 or 9) and go ride Skyline, 84, 1, maybe Stage road. Anyone cares to join me?

In the words of Agent 86 Maxwell Smart: "Missed it by that much."
rndthought 04-28-2007, 06:25 PM “Would you believe three Boy Scouts, a pregnant Nun and a small Egyptian cat?”
I loved that show…always wanted a Tiger Sunbeam and a Cone of Silence at work!
We need more spies like that.
I missed the group ride but picked up on Alex's idea. I just got back from a really nice solo ride in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Alices to San Gregorio to Pescadero back to Alices. What a beautiful day!
Then I cleaned and lubed my chain. First time with my new Pit Bull stand. Wow, does that make it easier! Lubing a chain with two wheels on the ground is insane!
Sorry I missed you Dave. I might get a chance to ride again this upcoming Saturday, perhaps we can try this again.
Ben599 05-05-2007, 06:23 PM Anyone up for a coastal ride this sunday leaving from San fran or the marin area? I live near Davis, but I want to take a ride up the coast. Let me know!
Ben
Who's up for it? We can figure out the date, time, and route later. Come on, let's ride!
Ben599 08-13-2007, 09:24 PM I am up for a ride Saturday or Sunday (Aug 18 or 19). I just need a few days notice so I can plan around it.... Wife and stuff, you have to give some notice...
The mornings I think would be best for me.
This weekend is a no go = it's Nicole's b-day weekend. Next weekend is an option though. Can we plan for August 25th?
There things that go BUMP in the night...
Come on Bay Area people, where you at?
friscomann 08-20-2007, 11:39 PM Hey if you guys are still riding this Saturday, Aug 25th I'll join you. I'm new to the forum and am a relative newbie, still getting used to the bike. I live in SF and am open for rides to anywhere from Santa Cruz to Marin.
I had surgery on my foot 3 weeks ago. I haven't been riding (or driving) since then. Yesterday I started walking without crutches, but it'll probably be a few more weeks before I'm ready for a group ride. I wish I could go right now!
Alright Bay Area boys and girls ... are you up for a group ride before the weather gets messy? Let's do this!!! Who's up for a ride in the next few weeks? (weekend of Oct 6 excluded).
Do I hear a yay?!
BUMP :? I don't feel any love over here.
rndthought 09-26-2007, 11:52 AM BUMP :?
...on a solo Sticky...
I got A's games this Sat & Sun. It's the last weekend of the season. How about 10/13? Or 10/6 if your plans change. Or midweek?
BTW went for a nice ride Tue PM. From SF 280 to Woodside Rd. Stopped for gas and found six or seven motorcycle cops gassing up. Variety of jurisdictions (including Manteca!) wearing red shirts. My guess was a training course. (?) Those guys were so jealous of my 599. I decided to take a new route I was reading about on SBR. Kings Mountain Rd. to Tunitas Creek down to the coast then up to SF. Tunitas is BuMpY..
sseche 09-28-2007, 10:31 AM how about 10/13?
Maybe we could get that Bay Area 599 Photo?
DarkTint 09-28-2007, 11:57 AM Maybe we could get that Bay Area 599 Photo?
I'm not sure why, but something tells me that if Alex is involved, pictures are a given!
Let's plan for 10/13!
I'm planning on it.
Go Bears! Ranked #3 in today's AP Poll.

dabinche 10-01-2007, 12:56 PM no can do...I have mini bike racing that weekend at the cow palace, there is a bike show going on there (cruiser or custom show I think)
Bummer dude, I was really hoping you were going to make it. :? Another time I guess.
kjhobbs 10-08-2007, 01:06 PM I have a family reunion on the 13th :(
Kevin
I'm adding a poll to see if may be another date would work better.
10/20-21 is out for me. I can definitely do 10/13; maybe 10/14.
sseche 10-08-2007, 10:17 PM I voted for the 20th, but if we do something early on the 13th I can be there.
dabinche 10-09-2007, 12:01 PM I can only do sundays, but not this week, got a mini bike race at the cow palace
and who the hell is mike parkes?
Michael Parkes is one of my favorite artists. Here's a link: http://www.borsini-burr.com/artists/gallery.cfm/artist/Michael-Parkes/category/limited
You might have seen calendars of his work over the last few years. If you haven't, pay attention to the art calendars this year and you will.
It would be awesome if we could do the ride on the 21st. That way we could kill two birds with one stone!
friscomann 10-09-2007, 10:43 PM I'm up for either weekends just let me know.
There goes our weather! :( Looks like this weekend is pretty much a no-go. Perhaps it will dry out by the next one?
So who's down to go riding this Saturday? Optionally, we can wait for a time when more of us can come out. What's the deal?
sseche 10-16-2007, 04:50 PM I'll be there Saturday or whenever we can get a group.
group means more than 2, I think.
The weather is NOT cooperating with us this week. Bummer. Let's postpone.
dabinche 10-17-2007, 09:56 PM kinda odd that we are gettin all this rain this early...very abnormal for the BayArea
Yeah, I'm NOT loving it.
May be next weekend will workout better.
kinda odd that we are gettin all this rain this early...very abnormal for the BayArea
It's going to be a beautiful weekend and I'm going to go riding. I will be in the parking lot across the street from Alice's Restaurant at 10 AM on Saturday. At 10:30 even, I'm off.
Please let me know if you're going to be there.
No one?! Alrighty then, I guess that's a good thing considering it's 1 in the morning and I'm nicely buzzed. Something tells me getting up too early tomorrow would have been tough. Another time, I guess.
friscomann 10-27-2007, 11:31 AM Hey Alex, I'm gonna ride on Sunday. Don't know if you have plans but if you don't we can meet up somewhere.
John
What time did you want to go?
friscomann 10-28-2007, 11:46 AM Sorry Alex, just read your email. It is 10:45am now. Let me know if it isn't too late for you and I can meet you at Alice's around 12pm or later. If not this time another day then.
Let's do 12:30 at STP. (I might be 2 up.)
friscomann 10-28-2007, 12:08 PM Sounds good. See you then.
willdafrog 11-07-2007, 04:51 PM when is the next meet going to be for Highway 9
Well, let me know which weekend work for you and we'll try to organize a ride around 'em.
Mitch 01-11-2008, 11:54 PM I'm in the East Bay, and I'd love to go riding with some people. It's my first bike, and I've only been riding for 6 months. If you have anything going on, let me know.
Mitch 01-17-2008, 04:36 PM What has been peoples' experience with BARF and their group rides? I'm considering going on something in the next couple weeks, and they seem to be the easiest and most available to get involved with.

My 2 cents: Stay away from BARF rides. There is a fella named Turtle on South Bay Riders that organizes newbie group rides almost every weekend (in the east bay of all places). I highly recommend you ride with them instead.
Here's a link to the Group Ride section of SBR: http://www.southbayriders.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=36
Mitch 01-17-2008, 05:32 PM Thanks, I'll definitely do that!
I might just head out by my lonesome or with one or two others this Saturday morning for practice. Anyone interested in coming with or any recommendations for a 2 hour quick ride in the area? I'll probably check the SBR forums to see what routes they suggest.
Mitch 02-09-2008, 04:06 PM I'm going on the South Bay Riders mellow ride tomorrow with Turtle and gang. Is anyone else gonna be there? I'll be the one with the 599.
n2citrus 03-11-2008, 10:06 PM This summer I might host a Central CA BBQ at my place, that way all the socal and norcal people could converge in one place. I live along the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, and a great ride would be up to California Hot Springs. Look it up on Google Earth...lots of fun mountain curves. Then we could head back to my place for a BBQ dinner. Any takers?
-Michael
P.S. I am about two and a half hours north of LA and four hours south of SF Bay area.

Could you post something in the "socal it's not raining" section. Might start something. Or even start a new thread with an ALL CALI RIDERS type of heading and see what jumps off. Just a thought.
Mitch 03-12-2008, 12:52 AM I would love to be a part of that, but man... 4 hours is a long long ride on a bike just to get somewhere to ride again. I'd consider it though. Maybe a weekend trip, perhaps.
rndthought 03-12-2008, 08:48 AM I would love to be a part of that, but man... 4 hours is a long long ride on a bike just to get somewhere to ride again.
But 4 hours is nothing to ride if there is some home cooked BBQ at the end... Yeah I'd bring a tent and camp in his yard...would be a long day otherwise, cause you gonna wanna beer to wash that BBQ down, or two...or three
Oh and I agree, making a new post if you are serious is a good idea... :thumbsup
n2citrus 03-12-2008, 10:02 AM Yeah, it would definitely need to be a full weekend event, but I think we could make it worth the effort. We can pitch a tent, or for you more adventurous types, we have several hotels in town.
I might repost this later in an "All California" section, but I thought this heading included that already.
-Michael
P.S. Did I mention BBQ and steak!
Hey SF Bay Area boys and girls - who wants to come out and ride the Santa Cruz mountains this (or possibly next) Saturday? Meet up at STP (Across from Alices) at 9 (or so, we can discuss this part) and go riding the hills for a couple of hours.
This isn't set in stone, but I'd like to see who'd be interested in a Saturday morning ride in the near future.
Mitch 05-08-2008, 09:31 AM I'm always interested, but this weekend is packed currently for me. I have an ultimate frisbee tournament on Saturday and a ride up in the north bay planned for Sunday.
Make it next weekend and you've got a deal!
Calling all Bay Area riders - who's up for a ride on Saturday (05/17)morning?
Mitch 05-12-2008, 11:37 AM sorry Alex, I'm going to have to cancel for at least a couple weeks. :(
http://www.honda599.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2786
Mitch 06-03-2008, 11:16 AM Okay, I'm back and ready for action. My bike is fixed, I've put the replacement parts on it, and things are working well. That means it's time to do that ride we talked about.
How about either Saturday the 14th or Sunday the 15th?
This month is going to be super busy for me. The weekend you mentioned is going to be all about work for me. I'm shooting a wedding this friday AND saturday, so I'm going to have my hands full with post production work for weeks thereafter. And then I have engagement shoots to do. :? If I get sick of working and figure I can escape for a couple of hours, I'll definitely let you know. PM me your number and I'll give you a call if I can make it.
rp jc 06-25-2008, 09:53 PM Im going on a ride july 6 it starts in rohnert park giong up to lake sonoma and hitting up highway 1 back down to petaluma to hwy 101 if anybody would like to join we start the ride around 9 and it should be around 4 to 5 hours I ride a 2004 599. more info about the group Im riding with is on meetup.com under sports bikes group rp riders. we do a group ride once or twice a month mostly sonoma and marin countys.
Mitch 06-25-2008, 10:45 PM Sounds cool. Do you read southbayriders.com or bayarearidersforum.com? Those are some great rides as well.
Hey JC, do you ever ride in Santa Cruz hills? One of them days (hopefully sooner than later) we'll organize a Bay Area 599/919 ride.
By the way, what color is your bike? Did you buy it new or used? Do you know Tai? (Lots of questions, I know. )
rp jc 06-26-2008, 09:22 PM I ride a 2004 asphalt or flat black. I bought it in petaluma with one mile on it. I have never rode the santa cruz hills mostly just marin and sonoma county along the coast hwy. one. I do you use my bike to commute to the city or I go to a school in hayward every other month but most the time Im in a company truck carpooling.
rp jc 06-26-2008, 09:27 PM I go to northbaysportriders nbsr.com it is a pretty cool group it is close to home for me I would love to go on a group ride and see the mods other people have done to there 599.
playhockeyeh 06-30-2008, 10:43 AM I live in Morgan Hill and would be interested in some local group rides.
Just testing the waters... how many of you guys would be able to come out and ride the Santa Cruz hills on July 26th?
playhockeyeh 07-07-2008, 12:15 PM I might be able to make it. Did you have a starting place and time in mind?
We'd meet at 9:30 or 10am at the Skyline Trading Post (across the street from Alice's restaurant) and go from there. If we get a few people to come out and ride, I'll come up with a route.
rp jc 07-07-2008, 06:48 PM It is a maybe for me I would not know till the midweek before the 26th. would we be able to start at 9 if I can make it. It is a hour and a half for me to just get there then the trip home after so I would like to start around 9 if I can go. I will put it on the calendar but I might have to work.

:)
I have about an hour ride from Morgan Hill. I've never been to Alice's, would we be having lunch there? :)
I don't see why not!
calai 07-13-2008, 08:28 PM I'm interested too.... once you confirmed the time and place, let me know...
Mitch 07-13-2008, 08:39 PM oh heck! I didn't even see this post go up. I'll definitely be there.
Calai! What's up?! Long time no see.
robkb 07-13-2008, 09:12 PM I'm flying out to San Fransisco on the 18th to visit my brother. He lives in Hayward on D street. I'll keep an eye out for 599's.
calai 07-16-2008, 12:33 AM Yes, it had been a while since I've seen you at one of the group rides. Last I heard was about your incident... How's the bike?
Hope to see you around soon!
oh heck! I didn't even see this post go up. I'll definitely be there.
Calai! What's up?! Long time no see.
Just found out that I'm going to have an out of state guest coming that weekend, so I'm out. You guys should still ride though - and take pictures!
Mitch 07-16-2008, 04:36 PM I'm still down for riding, the only sad part is that I think Alex might be the only one who knows anything about the Santa Cruz mountains. Unless Calai knows a good place to go.
Otherwise, since we have people from north bay, east bay, and south bay, we could meet in the middle.
playhockeyeh 07-16-2008, 04:39 PM I can probably still make it. But I haven't ridden too much in the Santa Cruz mountains so I wouldn't be the best choice to lead the ride.
Calai does lots of rides with the South Bay Riders, so I would assume he knows where to take you guys. Just a matter of getting him to agree to lead.
// Calai, if you're not comfortable leading, perhaps you can get Curt (919) to lead.
I would like to come but unfortunately I have a prior commitment. Who ever leads the ride, be sure to take Tunitas -- it's the best! Just kidding. But I'm serious.
Mitch 07-21-2008, 11:25 PM so i have bad news.
on wednesday, i was in a softball game with some friends. i was pitching slow-pitch style and that usually lends itself well to lots of hits (and usually a lot of fun for both teams).
when a 200 pound guy that can hit home runs with one arm gets up to bat, you have to worry though. sadly, instead of the expected home run, i received a line drive to my stomach and a broken finger to boot. i'm having surgery in two days to get everything put back in place, and that means no riding until i get the ok from the doctor.
let's reschedule since we're already having people drop out. after wednesday, i'll find out if my hand will be robust enough for riding and i can commit to something then.
calai 07-21-2008, 11:45 PM I'd just read the thread... Well, let's plan for another week then...
However, here would be a route for consideration:
Route: (approximately 70 miles/2.5 hours)
Santa Teresa Blvd - 6.1 mi.
Right on Bailey Ave - 2.3 mi.
Left on McKean Rd - 2.4 mi.
McKean becomes Uvas Rd - 7.4 mi.
Stop at Uvas Reservoir
Continue Uvas - 2.3 mi.
Right on Watsonville Rd - 3.6 mi.
Right on (152) Hecker Pass Rd - 5.2 mi.
Stop at Mt Madonna
Continue Hecker Pass Rd - 4.5 mi.
Hecker Pass Rd becomes East Lake Ave - 1.7 mi.
Right on Holohan Rd - 1.5 mi.
Holohan Rd becomes Airport Blvd - .6 mi.
Right on Freedom Blvd - 7.4 mi.
Take Hwy 1 North - 4.8 mi.
Take Bay/Porter exit
Right on Porter St - .5 mi.
Porter becomes Soquel/San Jose Rd - 11 mi.
Left on Summit Rd - .2 mi.
Stop at the store on right, its about 30 seconds after you turn onto Summit
Our Last stop will be at the Summit Store.
From Summit, I know you can go via black road to 35 to STP... However, I'm not familiar with that part of the route...
dabinche 07-22-2008, 09:41 PM stay on summit and it will turn into skyline/35.......it is a fun little goat section
what would be really fun is:
stay on summit till after crossing 17
then left on Mt. Charlie road
right on Glenwood
which turns into Scotts Valley Dr.
right on Mt. Hermon
left on Graham Hill Rd.
right on 9
right on Bear Creek
left on skyline/35 to 4corners or Alices
this will add about 30-40 miles more
calai 07-22-2008, 11:40 PM WOW that is a real goat trail!! I'm too much of a coward to lead a ride there  Or I'll be riding like 5 mph and everyone falling asleep behind me
Thanks for the suggestion though :D
dabinche 07-23-2008, 01:28 AM Mt. Charlie Road is my favorite goat trail, Summit Rd. on the west side of 17 is goaty for maybe 3 miles but it isn't that tight.
I used to get freaked out riding goat now I love it and have the most fun on'em
robkb 07-25-2008, 11:21 PM I'm on vacation and went up Mt. Tam. Wished I was on my 599.
playhockeyeh 08-07-2008, 10:00 AM Mitch, how did the surgery go? Hope you're feeling better soon.
:D
playhockeyeh 08-08-2008, 12:11 PM Was thinking about riding to Monterey this weekend... Anyone available?
:ride
Mitch 08-11-2008, 12:02 AM Thanks for the thoughts, hockeye. The surgery went well, and I have a very small, single-finger cast on which allows me to ride without much discomfort. I'm back on the bike now and ready for action. I think it's time we made some plans!
First off, which is better: Saturday or Sunday?
Second, which of the next 4 weekends would you not be able to go?
playhockeyeh 08-11-2008, 09:30 AM Sundays work best but I can probably fit in a Saturday. At this time I have no set plans for the next four weekends (but this can rapidly change depending on my wife).
Look forward to meeting and riding with you! Hopefully other Bay Area riders can make it once we pick a date, time and route.
:D
Mitch 08-11-2008, 10:35 PM I can't ride this upcoming weekend (16th, 17th), and Sundays work best for me as well.
If we made the ride for the 24th of August, who would be up for going? Sign up here.
I have a wedding to shoot on the 23rd, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to get up early the next day. :? I may or may not be able to make it.
Mitch 08-15-2008, 05:11 PM 31st?
Mitch 08-19-2008, 06:53 PM I'm having surgery to get the pins out of my broken finger next week, so a ride on the 31st will happen with or without you jokers. But to be honest, it would be a lot more fun with company. If no one pipes up, I'll probably just ride with South Bay Riders for their mellow sunday ride.
playhockeyeh 08-20-2008, 09:44 AM I'm in for either ride (599 or SBR) on the 31st.
Mitch 08-20-2008, 03:35 PM Awesome, if we can somehow make it to 3 people, then we'll go on a 599 ride. If it stays just you and I, then we'll go with SBR. More than likely, we'll see Calai there (he's always hanging out with those SBR folks!).
av0486 08-26-2008, 01:12 AM I really want to join you guys. But I can't ride my bike now because of the injured ankle. I will go with you next time.
I can probably make it this Sunday. I haven't been as involved with SBR as I used to be, so I'd need a reminder of what their Sunday right is about.
playhockeyeh 08-26-2008, 11:59 AM Now that there are three of us we could always do a 599 ride. But, I'd also be open to an SBR ride.
Let's start planning the route.
I'm thinking we can meet at the parking lot in front of the Skyline Trading Post store (across the street from Alice's), take 84 to Pascadero Rd, then cruise down Highway 1 to Davenport (for lunch). That's where my knowledge of reasonably clean, easy roads ends... but if no one has an idea of where to go next, I can certainly come up with something. Let me know.
Alternatively, we can meet in Saratoga and take 9 down to Santa Cruz area, then cruise up 1 until we get to Pascadero Rd, then 84 up to Alices, have lunch and figure out where to go from there.
We can meet at 10am.
playhockeyeh 08-27-2008, 12:11 PM Excellent!
Since I'm somewhat directionally challenged, I won't be of much help planning the route.
I'm open to either of your suggested routes. I can't wait to see some other 599's and meet fellow riders!!
:woohoo
What time is the meeting at STP?
10AM. We can head out at 10:15 or so after the initial introductions.
dabinche 08-27-2008, 02:31 PM STP meet and lunch at Davenport sounds good. I'd like to avoid 9 on the way back and do Bear Creek or Soquel San Jose, just cause I want to minimize contact with weekend idiots.
Mitch 08-27-2008, 04:04 PM cool, everyone came out of the woodwork just in time.
i had surgery today to remove the pins in my broken finger, but I've been riding just fine. i don't foresee any problems with getting out there and riding.

Sounds like you might know the roads better than the rest of us. Suggestions welcome. I just ask that we stay away from roads like 236 and Felton Empire - I like my bike and I want to live. :D I know you love goat trails, but if possible, let's skip those too.
All that aside, I'm excited to finally meet all you guys! I haven't been on a group ride in ages!
everyone came out of the woodwork
It's a hobby.

I think I can make a 10 am ride.
This is where we're meeting at 10am:
Skywood Trading Post parking lot: Location on Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=skyline+trading+post+loc:+california&ie=UTF8&ll=37.386501,-122.263938&spn=0.002728,0.004705&z=18&iwloc=A)
PS. Cool plane, Dave.
playhockeyeh 08-28-2008, 11:43 AM Is there a gas station near STP? I'll be coming from Morgan Hill.
Is there a gas station near STP? I'll be coming from Morgan Hill.
Yep, there's one basically ON that parking lot.
Since it's quite a ride for you, I recommend you get there earlier to give yourself some time to rest.
playhockeyeh 08-28-2008, 11:47 AM Thanks Alex!
:D
calai 08-28-2008, 11:19 PM Damn.... I just posted a mellow ride on SBR and came over here to see if you guys are interested to join and saw the updates and plan for the EXACT SAME DAY!!! :wtf
Well, I would love you join you guys but I guess I can't now since I was the one that posted the other....
You guys have fun and you're welcome to join us too if you change your minds East bay Mitch !
BTW, here is the ride I posted: http://www.southbayriders.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63836
Mitch 08-30-2008, 12:17 PM Hey guys, I won't be able to go on sunday. I have a presentation to give on monday, and I won't be able to finish it if I don't work on sunday. Have a good ride though!
Bummer Mitch. I was looking forward to meeting you.
Everyone else:
Just so we don't ride away without you tomorrow morning, let us know that you're coming.
I'm coming for sure. 10AM. STP.
Who else?
playhockeyeh 08-30-2008, 03:40 PM I plan on being there...
dabinche 08-30-2008, 11:58 PM I'll be there too.
n2citrus 09-01-2008, 02:03 PM Soooooo....how did it go? Lets see some pics, or at least a play by play.

dabinche 09-01-2008, 03:04 PM Soooooo....how did it go? Lets see some pics, or at least a play by play.
-Michael
Alex will up date you when he is good and ready.
Soooooo....how did it go? Lets see some pics, or at least a play by play.
It didn't go as smooth as I hoped, but don't really want to talk about it just yet.
n2citrus 09-05-2008, 06:24 PM That just peaks my curiosity even more! Darn you guys.
-Michael
dabinche 09-06-2008, 02:43 PM we went bar hoping and stopped by the local whore house, started a fight with some biker gang and um like yeah
biking4jesus 10-25-2008, 05:59 PM guys! i just moved to the bay area and brought the bike with me. actually living in the city. i was told i have to go visit alice's on 82/skyline so maybe this weekend (sunday) i will get over there.
djamalt 10-25-2008, 08:18 PM guys! i just moved to the bay area and brought the bike with me. actually living in the city. i was told i have to go visit alice's on 82/skyline so maybe this weekend (sunday) i will get over there.
Triator!!! :yell :tomato Kidding of course. Hey let us know how the roads in the bay compare to the roads in SoCal once you start riding out there.
Mitch 10-28-2008, 12:07 AM hey there, awesome to see that you made the move!
Did you make it to alice's? I've only been once since it's kinda far for me. Also, football season has taken the forefront on Sundays (my usual riding day), so I haven't done much of anything besides commuting. My poor bike probably hates me.
Check out www.southbayriders.com. That is where you'll find a really nice group of people to show you some good places to go and to do a low key group ride to get to know the area. Maybe I'll see you out there one of these days!

Before I started this forum, I was addicted to www.southbayriders.com. An awesomely helpful and entertaining group of people. Definitely introduce yourself and go riding with them.
And welcome to Bay Area!
biking4jesus 11-12-2008, 09:33 PM thanks for the welcoming! i think since the weather is going to be so nice, i'll try and make it to alice's on sunday. anyone interested?
Did you ever make it to Alices? How did it go?
biking4jesus 01-11-2009, 09:53 PM yea i got to alice's. it was pretty cool, super packed. i met a friend of a coworker. nice old guy who showed me around.
Mitch 01-12-2009, 07:00 AM The only time I've been there, it's been a pretty friendly atmosphere. I dind't know anyone, but I sat down, a couple people joined me, and I shared my chili cheese fries. Instant friends!
djamalt 01-13-2009, 12:34 PM Amazing how bikes bring folks together no? I was afraid to stop at the Rockstore for a while. Soooooo many big ass Harley guys rolling in colors. But now, hell, I'll roll up there solo grab a seat and even kick it with some of them... except for the Mongols and some smaller "clubs like that" - not that they've even been around lately.
avyas 04-05-2009, 04:00 PM Hi guys, new member here from SF, wanted to see if any of you wanted to go for a ride one of these weekends? I know many of you are from SJ, I can meet you guys there or anywhere else in the Bay Area.
dabinche 04-14-2009, 10:07 PM man good luck trying to get folks from the BayArea to go on a group ride
djamalt 04-14-2009, 11:34 PM It took us a while to do it here in LA, but we managed. Don't give up!
man good luck trying to get folks from the BayArea to go on a group ride
Binh, you're so positive! :lol2: Take the the new rider out!
mingDmerciless 04-30-2009, 04:05 PM I am in the bay area and would eventually want to join a ride with some other local hornets. I think I need a little more seasoning though. I ride slow:banghead
dabinche 08-29-2009, 10:19 PM Okay it has been way too long since a BayArea ride so lets do this soon before it starts to get cold and dark early. Lets make it on 9/20 @ 10am, meet at the park & ride lot on the corner of Page Mill Rd. & Arastradero Rd. right off of 280 in Palo Alto. I'll take you guys to check out the Terminator. It'll be go at your own pace and less then 100 miles.
Mitch 08-30-2009, 12:48 AM Ooops... last night, I posted up that I'd go on this ride but this morning my girlfriend reminded me we made plans to go on a canoe trip with some friends. Is there any chance we could do it on the Saturday before?
dabinche 08-30-2009, 03:38 PM lets get some more folks input on dates, but I want it to be in sept. while it is still warm
Mitch 08-30-2009, 10:51 PM Agreed. And I can always get more people without 599s to come along.
I'm definitely down for a ride, but I'll be in Indy on the 20th.
I can easily do the weekend after (26/27th) or possibly the weekend before (12/13th).
or maybe both!
dabinche 09-06-2009, 02:37 PM Okay it has been way too long since a BayArea ride so lets do this soon before it starts to get cold and dark early.
So it looks like the 27th would be best for folks to make it. I'll see you all on 9/27 then.
Asphalt_in_SF 09-06-2009, 09:24 PM Hello Bay Area, sounds good, I'm in! See you on the 27th. Do we need to bring shot gun shells as peace offerings?
Mitch 09-07-2009, 08:37 PM Awesome! I'll see you there at 10am.
sweet! see you guys at the park & ride @ 10am!
Alex, you comin'?
By the way, are we keeping it "Hornet's Only" or should I open it up to a couple other riders I know?
I will be out of town, but hope you guys have a fun and safe ride. PLEASE take pictures.
dabinche 09-09-2009, 12:08 AM lets keep it small for this ride
Mitch 09-16-2009, 02:21 PM Bump just to make sure people see this post for the latest SF Bay Area group ride.
Bump...the day is getting close 9-27.
everyone still down?
dabinche - you still got the route planning duties?
Okay it has been way too long since a BayArea ride so lets do this soon before it starts to get cold and dark early. Asphalt_in_SF 09-24-2009, 06:49 PM Yeah man!
Mitch 09-24-2009, 11:30 PM looking forward to it. see you guys on sunday!
dabinche 09-25-2009, 06:30 PM yeah see you guys Sunday....so the park and ride lot is right next to the 280 on/off ramp at the four way stop intersection of page mill and asteradero
Mitch 09-27-2009, 12:13 AM I don't know what I'd do without google streetview. That shit is amazing. Now I know exactly where the Park and Ride is. Arastradero is a weird road and pretty confusing, so I'm glad I was able to see the intersection you're talking about before having head there.
for anyone following along...pics from the ride here: http://www.honda599.com/forums/showthread.php?p=117764#post117764
Awesome-O 10-06-2009, 08:30 PM well im relatively new here and just noticed this sticky...but I'm in the bay area too! Specifically in the North Bay, Sonoma County, Petaluma. Just north of Marin County. Hit me up if you wanna ride on a weekend!
dabinche 12-19-2009, 10:37 PM Okay folks it's been a while since the last ride and this is kinda short notice but I'd like to set up another ride by New Year...maybe new years day if you guys aren't working that Friday, if so then the day after (1/2/10).
I'm thinking of the Hamilton loop. Calaveras>84>Livermore>Mines>Mt.Hamilton>San Jose. It is about 70miles or was it 100miles...
Meet up at the corner of Calaveras Blvd./237 & Park Victoria Dr. at 10am. It is right off 680. There are two gas stations at that intersection, meet at the South East Corner.
We'll have lunch half way thru the ride.
Asphalt_in_SF 12-20-2009, 02:14 PM Good call Dabinche. I can't on the Fri or Sat (1st/2nd) as the girlfriend booked a Napa getaway but if it happens on Sunday I'm there.
Mitch 12-20-2009, 10:06 PM I am probably good for any of those days, but choose soon so my girlfriend doesn't also make plans!
Edit: Oh, I'm running a 5K on the morning of the 2nd, but I should be done by 9am and ready to ride by 10am.
dabinche 12-20-2009, 11:38 PM Maybe Sunday (1/3/10) then..can you make it Mitch? So there will be at least three of us. Rain cancels but the forecast looks okay.
I may be able to make that as well!
Mitch 12-21-2009, 02:40 PM I can do Sunday, 1/3/2010. Do we have a specific time yet?
dabinche 12-21-2009, 08:45 PM you guys okay with 10am?
Mitch 12-21-2009, 11:43 PM 10am sounds great for me!
Asphalt_in_SF 12-22-2009, 07:01 AM Yo, Awesome-O (http://www.honda599.com/forums/member.php?u=1415), Come out and join us. Alex, you to.
Awesome-O 12-22-2009, 10:33 PM Sorry guys...its a pretty far ride for me just to do some more riding...anytime you guys come up north let me know!
Mitch 12-23-2009, 10:58 AM If you're up in Petaluma, maybe sometime we could all go up 1 and get some oysters! There have to be good roads all around there.
Asphalt_in_SF 12-23-2009, 01:01 PM 10 AM sounds good. Google can't find that location. Anybody have an address?
Awesome-O 12-23-2009, 05:55 PM If you're up in Petaluma, maybe sometime we could all go up 1 and get some oysters! There have to be good roads all around there.
tons of em!:thumbsup
dabinche 12-23-2009, 06:52 PM 10 AM sounds good. Google can't find that location. Anybody have an address?
cut paste this:
E Calaveras Blvd & N Park Victoria Dr, Milpitas, Santa Clara, California 95035
meet at the south/east corner, across the street from both gas stations
Asphalt_in_SF 12-24-2009, 09:15 AM Ok, got it. See you there!
Yup, will have to do a Awesome-o run some time in Spring.
Awesome-O 12-24-2009, 05:28 PM ^^^Sounds great! I went for a ride today and it was beautiful! Make sure you guys take pics on this ride so I can put the faces to screen names before I meet everyone in person...and have fun!
Looks like I'm sitting tomorrow's ride out due to a minor case of vertigo.
I know that speed increases stability, but I think the couch may be a safer bet!
Have fun!
Mitch 01-02-2010, 06:49 PM Wow... get better. I'll still be there, so see you guys soon.
Asphalt_in_SF 01-03-2010, 01:31 AM - I'm in. Get well soon Buzz.
dabinche 01-03-2010, 03:53 AM see you guys at 10
Asphalt_in_SF 01-04-2010, 04:27 AM The Nor-Cal contingent started the year with a buzz through the back-hills of Livermore towards Mines Road-Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton. The route is well known in CA for offering 60+ miles of turns through mountain landscapes. All twisties, all the time. Morning started off with blue skies, 62F, no wind. The route delivered as promised with unending tight mountain turns and long sweepers. The cons are much of it is on a single lane roads with no center line, some dirt on road, wet patches, no rails and steeeeeeeep cliffs into the abyss of nothingness so hooliganism is kept at a minimum. Of the twenty other bikes we came across 90% of them were adventure tourers. 10% were unlicensed, a herd of loose cows on the roadside that Mitch freaked out with some crazy mind control shit and reports of wild bores running amuck. The Lick Observatory staff confirmed the rumored sightings of Hornets on Mars is true. Yo, I knew it.
Stats: 160 miles, 5 hr total ride time, 1 lunch stop, 1 fuel stop, 1 viewing stop.
Seriously guys? You went up to the Observatory? I don't know whether you're brave or just :crazy

I drove up there a couple of years ago and between the road's poor condition and its geography I decided against making that trip on a motorcycle.
yeroC 01-04-2010, 05:02 PM Great shots Asphalt!! Looks like a great time and some cool riding. I'm envious. I have to ride for hours before i can get to some mountains!!
Awesome-O 01-04-2010, 07:20 PM bad ass guys! So how many of you? Just 3?
JWAJack 01-04-2010, 11:28 PM Great ride report. Did the observatory get snow the last go-round in early December? And how bout some screen names with the faces?
carlitos_92 01-05-2010, 06:30 AM And how bout some screen names with the faces?
I dunno if I've been around here too long or what, but I'm at the point where I recognize ol' Mitch by his jacket...
JBarx 01-05-2010, 07:06 AM You guys with your 62 degrees can suck my balls.
No, really. You can. It was 5 degrees this morning. It's too cold to even take my bike off its stands.
LeatherWings 01-05-2010, 10:32 AM You guys with your 62 degrees can suck my balls.
No, really. You can. It was 5 degrees this morning. It's too cold to even take my bike off its stands.
:point
Asphalt_in_SF 01-05-2010, 11:29 AM - 3 rider swarm L>R: Asphalt, Mitch, Dabinche. Big-up's to Dabinche for route planning skills.
- Not sure if it snowed a few weeks back, most likely yes. The roads were in good condition and free of debris except where rock-slides crashed across the road. There were numerous jarring bumps that were difficult to distinguish before impact. These would wear on ones wrists/back quick on a current sport bike, probably why we didn't see any. The Hornet's real-world suspension made easy work of it.
Mitch 01-05-2010, 01:08 PM I bet if there hadn't been a decent amount of rain over the past couple months, the road up to Lick Observatory would have been a lot more treacherous. But with only a little bit of sand in places and bright sunshine to dry out the road, things were beautiful. We definitely took a snail's pace going up and back down from the Observatory.
I'm so glad we did this route because it's not very far from my house, and at least during our ride, the roads were wide open from start to finish. I guess that's a Sunday morning for ya.
JWAJack 01-05-2010, 02:21 PM You guys with your 62 degrees can suck my balls.
No, really. You can. It was 5 degrees this morning. It's too cold to even take my bike off its stands.
Under those conditions (5 degrees) I'd suspect no one could.
BTW, in SoCal, 62 is COLD! (Current temp in Torrance is 76.1)
dabinche 03-13-2010, 09:41 AM So I was thinking of doing a multi-day group ride of hwy36, the best moto road on the planet! Make it a long weekend, take off on Friday late morning or early afternoon. Stay at a motel. Ride ALL day Saturday, stay at another motel. Come home the long way on Sunday. We could even camp if you guys want, maybe along the coast on Saturday night.
I like to do this before summer starts and the summer crowd invasion of CA and the Cali coast. I was thinking late April.
I'll check up on routes but was thinking heading up there inland Friday, ride around the coastal mountains Saturday, then take the coast home Sunday.
Now this is not just limited to BayArea peeps but anyone that can make it out. If you can get to the Red Bluff/Redding area in a day then you should come on out.
So from the BayArea expect at least 200miles first day, 400miles second day, and 200 miles third day.
Awesome-O 03-14-2010, 04:57 PM I'll be the first to say I would love to but cannot. Already taking a week off of work April 18-25 to go to Hawaii...I really would love to meet some people in person on this forum
Mitch 03-16-2010, 05:48 PM Yeah, taking a day off from work is kinda out of the plans for me. But an all-day or all-weekend ride is a possibility.
What is Highway 36? I know 35 and 37 but I can't find 36 on the map.
Also, what are you gents doing for Easter Sunday? Riding to the top of Mt. Tamalpais?! Yes! I would like to get a 599 ride going for this. We would be joining up with the SF Moto Club in the Mission and riding with them all the way up to Mt. Tam early in the morning that day. There were about 200-250 motos up there the last two years I've gone, and I think it'd be nice to have a group instead of just me wandering around not knowing anyone. Thoughts?
dabinche 03-16-2010, 09:52 PM CA hwy 36 is 130miles of twisties!!! best in the world.
not sure if I'll be in town on easter sunday.
hwy36 trip can be done in two days but it'll be two long days. Start early in the morning and end late both days.
Awesome-O 03-16-2010, 11:37 PM Yeah, taking a day off from work is kinda out of the plans for me. But an all-day or all-weekend ride is a possibility.
What is Highway 36? I know 35 and 37 but I can't find 36 on the map.

Yeah that's a pretty awesome ride.
But.....
A) When I ride I usually like to go faster then the speed limit.
B) Group rides are fun...but anymore then 10 people starts to get ridiculous
C) That shit is friggin EARLY! I mean they watch the sun RISE up on Mt. Tam...
But still a rad ride...in fact my desktop is a picture from one of those rides a few years back!
Asphalt_in_SF 03-17-2010, 12:26 PM I'm following along seeing what direction this is headed in. Camping sounds good. I haven't done any real miles on the Hornet but I know my hands and butt start complaining at around 200 miles so 400 in a day sounds tough. Haven't done Mt. Tam either.
Awesome-O 03-17-2010, 08:27 PM ^^^You live in SF and havent done TAM?
Mitch 03-18-2010, 01:10 PM Well, hit me up if the Easter ride is appealing. I will most likely do it and try to get as many of my friends as possible. It's a great way to see the bay area in all it's glory.
dabinche 03-20-2010, 10:21 PM mt. tam ride is too early for me
Asphalt_in_SF 03-27-2010, 02:36 PM Anybody interested in a Livermore ride Sunday Morning, tomorrow, the 28th. Me and a friend on a beemer 800gs, can meet at the same time at 10 AM at the corner on 237. Need to be back home around 2PM to go indoor skydiving with the niece and nephew. Should be warm inland, 70+. Open to other route suggestions that lead to good eats. Come on out!
dabinche 03-28-2010, 12:03 AM can't make it, have to work...where is the indoor skydiving???
Asphalt_in_SF 03-29-2010, 10:52 AM Ride report: Pre-ride maintenance included chain cleaning and lube, brake pad inspection, fluids/tires check and a quick cleaning with automotive cleaning wax in a spray can, genius stuff. A layer of Plexus found it's way onto the plastic bits. Rode the same route as last time and again it was awesome. Fifty miles of nothing but twisties guarantees plenty of opportunities to fine-tune turning skills. Great weather (Between 69-72F) and blue skies. Many turns on the top of Mt. Hamilton was strewn with gravel making even low speed hairpins sketchy on the BT-016's. I earned a ticket while passing some cars on a short bit of Highway that looked like a 65mph freeway, 2 lanes with a center barrier. He got us doing 85 mph in a 55 but 'Ponch cut us a huge break (65) after lots of smiles and not flinching when he said "I can tell you guys aren't speed freaks by your bikes, your out cruising." Why don't you call it a Nighthawk while your at it? I was with a beemer gs so you have to take your lumps sometimes. First ticket on the 599 out of the way. 177 miles, road-side brown bag lunch. Becoming suspicious of my windscreen overall usefulness.
Indoor skydiving in Union City, iFly=Fun.

Mitch 03-29-2010, 04:44 PM Geez, sorry I missed that ride. I was just relaxing on the couch all day. I haven't been checking the forums regularly over the past couple weeks, so I totally missed this.
You sent me a private message about it, but it never sent me an email to let me know I had mail. I wonder why...
I've been slacking on my forum checks of late as well.
ride sounds like fun, ticket not so much.
Mitch 03-31-2010, 08:13 PM Shoot, I didn't see you got a ticket. Did you both get tickets?!
Asphalt_in_SF 05-05-2010, 11:03 AM Shoot, I didn't see you got a ticket. Did you both get tickets?!
Yup, He got us both. When he pulled me over he told me on the loud speaker to pull in behind his crusier and told my buddy to pull in front and he kept us separated the whole time and wouldn't let us congregate. I'm sure it was SOP to maintain control of the situation. Ticket was $212. Ouch.
I'm heading up to the AMA races at Sears Point on Sunday.
Any other NorCal-ers going?
Mitch 05-11-2010, 09:24 PM Sorry bro, between wedding stuff and working, I'm stretched pretty thin. But we should plan for a ride in a couple weeks.... Anyone have plans for Saturday, Sunday, or Monday during Memorial Day weekend?
I'll be camping with the family, but let's get something on the calendar for June!
Mitch 05-22-2010, 10:45 PM Okay gang, because of wedding stuff and work travel, the only weekend I'm free is the 18th-20th of June. How about a ride on that Sunday morning? Maybe a ride north along 101 to get some oysters? Anywhere is good for me though.
Awesome-O 05-23-2010, 05:07 PM that sounds good. I'm up North and I could show you guys some decent roads...some really tight hairy stuff and some really high speed sweepers that are popular
dabinche 05-28-2010, 12:31 AM won't be in town then...if all goes right I'll be on my way up to AK
djamalt 06-14-2010, 02:38 PM So...

Mitch 06-17-2010, 11:02 PM Yeah, I'd be interested. But I'd need to know well in advance to plan for it. Lots of things happening this summer.

i think the aspirations for the 'west coast swarm of a lifetime' are for summer of 2011.
Mitch 08-22-2010, 08:02 PM Going on a ride next Sunday the 29th, early, and home by 1pm. If you'd like to come along, let's go! Otherwise, I'll just enjoy the lonesome road. The route is not determined yet, but I'm looking to explore instead of going along the same old same old.
dabinche 08-22-2010, 10:09 PM got a scooter ride on the 29th.

I think we should have a west coast swarm. Think the best location/riding will be the northern Cali coast. This will also make it the most central location for the west coast so no one has to go so much farther then any one else. Think spring of 2011 will be perfect. Early May would be best before the roads gets full of summer vacationers and the coastal mountains will be clear of snow by then.
Looks like south San Diego, north Seattle, and east Salt Lake is about the same time/distance to Red Bluff CA. Red Bluff can be the kick off location to the coastal mountains.
We'll hit up CA hwy 36, the BEST moto road in the world, 140 miles of continuous twisties:
