View Full Version : Suggestions for this forum
I'm open to your suggestions. Also, let me know if something isn't working. For example, I tried deleting messages out of my "Outbox" and it won't delete them! :wtf
I guess I'm going to need to get versed in PHP sooner than later. Plus, this site definitely needs a few touches to make it more intuitive and easier to navigate.
Happy :ride -ing.
twm1010 10-08-2006, 09:03 PM gimme some time, and i'll get some money together and get you a server, and we can get rid of the advertisements above, sound good?
Sounds great! Thanks!

cesu pro 10-13-2006, 01:32 PM we need some rank systems started...... and maybe all us early followers can get a special name or something
This forum software allows for ranks, but I've never used a forum that had them, so I have no idea how the system is "supposed to" work.
Can you tell me more about ranking? What are the rank titles, generally? This system assigns them based on posts, I believe. Is that typical?
Enlighten me.
Super Sneaky Steve 10-13-2006, 02:25 PM I vote for not having ranks.
I don't see the point as being a "maggot" then if you're a post whore you get to be a "God".
I think we should all be equal here.
rndthought 10-13-2006, 02:38 PM I vote for not having ranks
+1 and is "post whore" taken yet??? :banana

That's what "signature" field is for.
cesu pro 10-13-2006, 03:12 PM alright, if no one wants the ranks it's cool..... every other forum i frequent usually has em is all....
it's just like they said, the more you post the better your "rank"..... so here you'd have to come up with clever "ranks" for he who posts a lot (most obviously 599 related....... )
Guys,
I know I'm repeating myself within the same post, but I would really like your feedback:
What can I do to make this site better? What kind of content would you like to see that isn't here? What kind of functionality am I missing? What do you like, what do you dislike?
Speak to me, speak. :disco
I would have to agree on the no rank thing. Because people will post whore big time just to get a better ranking. And they don't really contribute to the site. I've seen it happen other places.
I understand your point there, GIFF, but i have also seen it work as intended. I don't personally put a lot of stock in post #s, but it does show you if a person has been around for a while, usually meaning they are more familiar with whatever the forum is about as opposed to some guy who's just found it for the first time. Personally, i like knowing who's been around and who hasn't. I don't put total faith in post #, but it can be a good tool if you take it with a grain of salt. I say leave 'em and let the public take it as they will. (Oh, and usually people who have been around a certain amount of time have a reputation, be it good or bad...and some info about a person's rep is better than no info at all. Just don't take it as a total knowledge ranking tool and you'll be ok. ;) )
Super Sneaky Steve 10-24-2006, 05:41 PM Being able to attach files directly to the post would be cool.
Being able to attach files directly to the post would be cool.
I've looked into that and I think I can do it. There is a mod that integrates Photobucket.com or some similar service with a forum. Basically, while you're attaching the image in your post, it will be hosted on their server. Given the limitations of the hosting plan I have right now, I say that's a good way to go. Yea?
Maybe being able to find all posts by a particular person?? That's a pretty cool feature sometimes, especially when you know what you're looking for and who posted it but not what thread or forum.
rndthought 10-27-2006, 07:35 AM I posted at 9:28am EST and the post lists 1:28 pm? Any way to get off of GMT and have times listed as local set by user?
(Because Alex, I know you are independently wealthy and just board out of your skull looking for fun things to do on-line :D )
Oh, and you don't hear this often enough: Great Job Buddy :thumbsup
antihero 10-27-2006, 08:24 AM Go to your profile and set your time zone. Eastern is GMT - 5 so I guess you can figure the rest from there.
rndthought 10-28-2006, 07:52 AM Go to your profile...
 Ahhh the power of information. THNX!
antihero 10-31-2006, 11:00 AM It would be nice if we had some more fields in the profile like gender perhaps.

I know! It drives me nuts how basic this software is. Adding the name field is definitely on my list of things to do.
Note guys, though I've done some a few years back, I'm not much of a programmer these days.
rndthought 10-31-2006, 12:23 PM Personally I don't really care what persuasion someone is (I knda like those awkward moments  ) or even how old. But I would like to see locations as a required field, type of bike (since we have 919 perpetrators here and since we 599'ers are caring accepting souls, must attempt to understand their reliance on bigger torqueier machines) and it would be cool to get everyone on a Goggle map so we can see where everyone is located. :thumbsup
And again Alex, Great job :thumbsup
(you're gonna regret offering me $5 for every time I say that  )
Thanks for your feedback guys. I'll do my best to get some of these things into the interface given my limited programming skills. Some modifications are available on the forum software website, but others, like "What kind of bike you ride?" is a bit trickier. I'll know better once I get a chance to sit down and mess with code.
Maybe we could have an 'Other Vehicles' section where members can post up about their other rides...?

If you're asking what I think you are, we already have that capability.

Ah...thanks, GP. It's a bit different on this forum than most others i'm used to...
RSS and a 'New Posts Since Last Visit' button would be awesome! Thanks AleX! 8)
I thought it showed the new posts since last visit automatically...

The icons change color, but normally there is a link that launches a query that shows a listing of new posts. Unless I'm going blind...I don't think there is one here...

Top right corner on front page, it says "View posts since last visit"
Aha! Thanks! I'm so quick to jump into the forums that I never saw the link!
rndthought 12-08-2006, 08:33 AM Alex,
Is it possible to get the color of Links in something other than gray...not very easy to see. Maybe change to somethng like a high contrst blue or orange...or even green?
It's possible. I'll play around with it next time I get a chance to mess with the code.
antihero 12-08-2006, 11:53 AM You don't really need to mess with the code. The easiest way is to go to the administration panel for phpbb. Click "Management" under "Style Admin". Click the "edit" link next to the default skin. There's a field for "Link Color". Just put in the hex you want.
I tried that and for some odd reason it doesn't change a thing. :thinking
I'm comfortable with CSS though, so it's just a matter of time.
rndthought 12-08-2006, 02:15 PM Lance sees lots of geek speak between Anti and Alex... :wtf
Lance continues to try and break free of a Chinese finger cuff.
Thanks Alex, it just would be easier to see for a bear of little brain like me...
antihero 12-08-2006, 04:23 PM Me thinks rnd needs to get some new spectacles, getting old.
Super Sneaky Steve 12-08-2006, 06:50 PM Well, that Yamaha is definately from the 70's (My dad had one just like it), but his clothing suggests maybe early 80's and he looks to be a teenager in shot. So I'd say he's in his 30's.
Although, maturity level is about age 13
How far off am I?

Way off, maturity level is more like 7...
Wish I would have kept it...`twas mint, 2 stroke and Orange!
five99er 12-11-2006, 11:26 AM It would be cool to have link to the last post in the "Last Post Column". I use that a lot on other forums.

In the rightmost column, click on the little "arrow and folded page" icon located after the username of the person to last post his/her comment. That will take you to the last post in the thread.
If this isn't what you had in mind, please clarify. Thanks.
five99er 12-11-2006, 12:40 PM Yep, that's it. Didn't catch that.
hondagirl 12-13-2006, 06:17 AM I like to have the option in my profile to have a photo album... This way I can have pics of my bike, but also other hobbies & things in my life.
:D
HondaGirl,
As far as I know adding an album to this forum is possible but not easy. I'm not sure when I'll have the time for it, but I will probably add that functionality in the future.
For now, feel free to post your pictures in the Pictures section of the site. "Off Topic" is there for anything else you may want to share.
:D
By popular request - here's the Suggestions thread. Suggest away.
DarkTint 03-27-2008, 09:29 PM Good find, Alex. Thanks!
Like I mentioned earlier, I think it would be cool to have a gallery here. By that, I mean a separate picture section divided by member, so each member can make their own gallery for their particular bike. Possibly accessible in each members profile.
I'd personally like to see an RSS (or ATOM) feed?
If you're using phpBB2, there seems to already be a MOD for it here:
[2.0.6] RSS Content Syndicator (http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=94&t=144548&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a)
(please note the suggested security mod change listed on that page if you do decide to use it)
