View Full Version : The Great Glove Challenge!
Super Sneaky Steve 10-10-2006, 03:52 PM I think we should have a glove contest! We should pool our glove photos together then everyone can pick only one to enter into the contest.
We'll run a poll for a week then decide the winner! :D
Maybe there's a better way, but here are my shots anyway.

PS. I LOVE the color of your bike Steve!!!
Super Sneaky Steve 10-10-2006, 04:24 PM Damn it, yours is still better I think. :?
Damn it, yours is still better I think. :?
:D The trick is to lay the gloves out a little bit more carefully and then shoot with shalow depth of field against a rich background.
Which camera are you using?
Super Sneaky Steve 10-10-2006, 05:15 PM A Kodak Easy Share Z650
I don't know how to use any of the options. I just point and push the button.

K. Then pick a nice background that is really, really far away. This should blur the background making the focal point the gloves and the bike.
In the olden days we had SLR cameras where you could easily choose adjust your depth of focus, or f-stop. Then again...we had to have light meters and all sorts of other stuff to get really good shots. :)
Yes, they make SLR digital cameras but they ain't cheap!
I have a nice tweener digital camera in the Canon S2 IS. I can let it do everything automatically or I can choose to set the f-stop and shutter speed manually.
edit to add: actually, if you can figure out how to set that stuff manually on your camera that waterfall would make a kickass background. Set the focal length short, then set the shutter speed to something long so that it blurs the motion of the falling water. That would make a nice shot. Remember your "rule of thirds" and play around with some different angles. Shoot enough and you'll get a good one in there somewhere. :)
damnage 10-10-2006, 06:29 PM BTW, if you don't know about www.pashnit.com everyone should go over there and check out his ride reports. The man can write and take some awesome pics. Truly a pleasure to read.
No offense to anyone here, I just admire work well done. Pay close attention to his pics. They're freakin' awesome!
Ba55man 10-11-2006, 02:28 AM A lovely view of a car park, Doh.....

pricelister 10-11-2006, 07:58 PM Nice photo, vthoky. Great background. But if I'm the advertising manager, I'm buyin' other one. That yellow really really pops!!
lo39cal 10-13-2006, 01:04 PM no more entries? is there an official vote count? i'll be sending my entry in to alex for posting.
Super Sneaky Steve 10-13-2006, 02:29 PM Ok, the poll has begun! Voting ends in seven days for the new champion!
vthoky 10-13-2006, 04:32 PM I'm voting for Alex....
damnage 10-13-2006, 05:15 PM Crap! I was going to take some shots tommorrow and submit. Oh well. I'll do it anyways. I just won't be in the poll.
Super Sneaky Steve 10-13-2006, 05:23 PM We can always do another poll. I'll keep praticing too.
I vow to someday beat Alex's glove shot! :D
rndthought 10-13-2006, 09:11 PM I vow to someday beat Alex's glove shot! :D
And so the Gauntlet is thrown, a nobler quest I can not dream. Good men, mount your loyal steeds, sheathe ye trusty 5.1MP 3x digital zoom cameras :nerd then go forth and yonder in search of fame. I bid ye good luck, ‘cause Alex’s photo…well, I'm no expert but it’s just a damn good shot. Don Quixote :crazy had better odds with his windmills! IMHO. :D
 You're killing me man!

J-nuine 10-14-2006, 06:57 PM Is it too late? come on, one more! : )

Super Sneaky Steve 10-14-2006, 07:12 PM I'm sorry, it won't let me edit the poll anymore.
I tried. That's a cool glove shot though!
damnage 10-14-2006, 07:15 PM What makes that shot interesting, to me at least, is that though it's a color shot, it's mostly black and white. So the few bits of color are interesting items in the picture. Nice shot!
... but I can. J-nuine... you're in.
I'm sorry, it won't let me edit the poll anymore.
vthoky 10-14-2006, 08:14 PM I'm still a little envious of J-nuine's garage! Sweet looking, for sure!
(Or maybe he's like me, and has just stashed all the "stuff" elsewhere in the garage for the sake of having one clear wall....)
J-nuine 10-16-2006, 03:25 PM got me!
J-nuine 10-16-2006, 03:27 PM alex may have the gloves, but how bout next round "best 599 garage pic challenge?"
alex may have the gloves, but how bout next round "best 599 garage pic challenge?"
You'd win that one hands down. :D Especially since I don't have a garage.
599hornet 10-22-2006, 07:03 PM finally got a glove shot

Good job! You've been added to the poll and the voting has been extended for a couple more weeks. Good luck. :D
mechanic77 10-22-2006, 09:03 PM OOOJHJJJJHHHHHH the suspense is killing me ........ oh wait never mind its a blow out
Super Sneaky Steve 10-23-2006, 07:00 AM Aww sweet! Someone voted for me! Yesssssssss! :D
I really think I can come from behind. (don't take that out of context  )
