View Full Version : Fender Eliminator/Undertray
antihero 10-11-2006, 11:21 AM Why is it so hard to find a decent one here in the states? I really like the Pyramid Plastics undertray but I can't seem to find any place that will ship to the US. Am I just not looking in the right places? The only US based fender eliminator I've seen is the Competitive Werkes which I think is lame, it's just a smaller version of the current fender.
Chris G 10-11-2006, 11:35 AM I think Targa makes one, i will look into and get a link if i find it.
antihero 10-11-2006, 11:59 AM I believe I'm correct in my first post and this is the Pyramid Plastics undertray. This one is exactly what I want but the guy who posted the pic didn't include any details and hasn't responded to my email yet.

BerkeleyJoe 10-11-2006, 03:42 PM Can't you remove/unbolt the rear fender and cut it yourself leaving enough room to mount the plate and turn signals? I had that done to my '99 model and I replaced the corn on the cob turn signals with some smaller ones. Now you can see the rear tire and the bike looks sportier.
I had this one on my first bike and loved it.

DarkTint 10-12-2006, 03:29 PM I installed an LED brakelight with integrated turn signals so I was able to toss the stock signals, then removed the license plate light assembly, then used a hack-saw to cut off the fender as high as I could without damaging the seat lock (a regular hack-saw cuts throught the fender like butter). All I did for the license plate was drill some new holes in it and screwed it directly into the remaining fender, just under the tail light. It is slightly off-center though, because of the key lock for the seat. I debated about trimming a peice off the side of the licence plate so I could center the plate and still use the lock, but I didn't think the Officer Friendly's out there would like that too much.

stringburner 10-12-2006, 07:15 PM I got the Pyramid undertray for my bike. I'll see if I can find out where I got it, then post the link. It was a place in GA if I recall, and they advertised in the back of all the bike magazines.

The undertray for the 599 isn't listed, but he can get it for you, as he's a Pyramid dealer.
I also see you can buy direct from Pyramid Platics now, from the UK to the US.

antihero 10-13-2006, 06:21 AM Thanks! That undertray looks awesome! I was afraid I'd have to spend $200+ to get something that sexy. I messaged that guy on ebay and hopefully he'll have good news to respond with.

stringburner 10-13-2006, 08:23 AM "how well does that match the yellow paint in person? and did it come painted or did you do that?"
It's not a 100% match. I don't think you can get a colormatched undertray for a Pearl Flash Yellow 599. I don't guess they offered that flavor overseas (where the trays come from) for our model years. I used Color-Rite Distributing paint to spray it w/. It is the OEM factory color, but still it isn't a 100% match. I did it twice and spent a good bit of money trying to get it to match exactly, but it's not going to happen due to what they term "factory color variance". The problem seems to be the most problematic in yellows and silvers. It has probably 16 or 18 coats of paint on it counting the clear. To produce the color takes a base coat (yellow), top coat (pearl), and then the clear. If you do it, make sure you get 2 cans each of the base and top. One can of clear will be plenty. I takes awhile too w/ 20 minutes flash time between coats. The job turned out really nice, but it still isn't as "mustardy" looking as the bikes original plastic, it's a bit brighter.
Thanks for the check-up Alex :thumbsup
Anytime
mechanic77 10-14-2006, 09:45 PM also www.streetfightersbydesign.com talk to David he can get about ne thing for the 599 and he is in the states
antihero 10-15-2006, 02:45 PM Ya'll have hijacked my thread. Regardless to get back on topic, I talked to that guy from ebay about the undertray and his english isn't so good. He first wanted me to paypal him the money without him listing the item. Then when I told him I would only buy it if he listed it and I'd "buy it now". That's when he says he's sold out. A bit shady if you ask me but that's the best undertray I've seen yet. I have already ordered the LED taillight with integrated turn signals so I don't want any stalks on it.

He also asked me to papal him the money when I first contacted him, and I felt the same as you did, although after dealing with him he seemed pretty safe to do business with. I'm sure he would rather just sell you one than pay the eBay fees. You might be able to order from their site if you can read Portuguese.
djamalt 10-18-2006, 12:36 AM Hoy! Boa Noite. That's about the extent of my Portugese so I'm hoping if I contact him it won't be too much trouble. But I was wondering, 599hornet, did your's come with the turn signals or did you pick those up somewhere else?
antihero 10-18-2006, 05:39 AM I may regret this (if I don't end up winning one) but I'm going to be a nice guy and share this with the community. Here are 3 available undertails from artfibras on ebay.

J-nuine 10-20-2006, 10:24 AM you can always buy primar and factory color at colorrite.. that's what i did for my undertray...
antihero 11-10-2006, 11:41 AM ARGH!!! I have the day off so I went to Cycle Gear to try on some helmets and wouldn't you know it, today is the day my undertray got here from artfibras in Brazil! Of course since it's insured it has to be signed for and I missed the postman. The note says I can pick it up on Monday. I'm so frustrated. :yell
stringburner 11-10-2006, 03:58 PM I hate it when that happens. The more you want whatever it is you ordered, the longer it takes, and the more apt you are to watch for it like a hawk, and as soon as you let your guard down you miss them. And then of course it would be a holiday weekend, so you have to wait longer.
antihero 11-10-2006, 06:47 PM w00t, I called the post office and arranged to pick up the package after the mailman dropped it off back at the PO so I have it now in my garage ready to install tomorrow! I'll post pics.
Did you ever post the pictures with the undertail installed? Did I miss them on another thread somewhere? Show us what it looks like, man! :D
Chris G 02-08-2007, 08:03 PM Hey Alex is the compwerks eliminator the whole complete under tray and brackets?
I'm not sure at this point. My first 599 came with it... the new one still has that ugly as sin thing that holds the plate. I'm sure if you do a little research online you'll find an answer. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
NISxMO 02-08-2007, 09:26 PM Anyone with an eliminator have any trouble with rain and stuff, Does you back get soaked when the roads are wet?
Chris G 02-08-2007, 10:45 PM Well i did a lot of searching and the Compwerks doesn't come with a under tray its just a mount and lights (pretty weak if you ask me)
You would still have to cut out anything you didnt want and still have that big lump for the lock. I would have to say their has to be a better kit out their to just replace that under tray. ( i can make the mount easy targa has kits for that but the under tray is a different story)
pricelister 02-11-2007, 08:48 AM Anyone with an eliminator have any trouble with rain and stuff, Does you back get soaked when the roads are wet?
Anybody?
My other reason for hesitating to get an undertray so far is concern about the visibility of the turn signals. After seeing some bikes on the road, I won't consider an integrated LED brake light / turn signal. In the daylight, with the brakes on, the turn signal didn't jump out at me. That's a problem. It seems the every OEM turn signal big and is far enough away from the other lights to stand out. I would assume there is a reason for this.
It's a less drastic improvement, but I am considering the CompWerkes eliminator. Any thoughts?
Billy from Philly 03-02-2007, 03:59 PM I want to do a fender Eliminator but I am worried about rear turn signal visability. E-bay has one online now with separate built in LED turn signals ..... I am thinking... by adding LED "bar end" turn signals they would be very visable and effective. Face it, the more and brighter the lights the safer.
Anybody do bar end lights? Is installation a bitch ??
E-bay has one online now with separate built in LED turn signals .....
What make? Can you post a link?
I'd like a fender eliminator, but I want the finish to be really clean. I don't like the idea of modifying the original fender with a hack saw. Isn't there a replacement part (instead of a hack job) with the lock relocated to the undertray, or something like that?
Billy from Philly 03-05-2007, 06:21 PM Here is the under tray on e-bay… it solves the turn signal problem and has a lock relocation. Add bar end turn signals and I think I have it covered.
