View Full Version : Riding Angry
Here's a tip about riding when you're angry - Don't.
When you're riding angry, you take more risks and are less likely to be fully aware of your surroundings. This is nothing short of dangerous. If you can avoid it, don't ride when you're emotionally unstable.
Whatever you're upset about, it's not worth dying over.
:ride

Then I'd never get to ride!!!
lo39cal 10-11-2006, 10:38 PM adjust all your gear and make sure that your comfortable with it before setting out.
Super Sneaky Steve 10-12-2006, 05:34 AM And never ride with an angry beaver in your pants! Those little buggers have some sharp teeth.
Jokes aside, I broke my own rule today and it I proved to myself that this is no laughing matter. I was so distressed this morning I didn't see the traffic stop 10 feet infront me. I'm lucky I didn't grab the break any harder than I did or I'd be flying over the damn handlebars into someone's bumper.
Please take this advice seriously.
damnage 10-12-2006, 04:16 PM It's sound advice for operating any vehicle! Been there myself on this issue. In fact, I've realized it, pulled over and calmed down, at least long enough to get myself home or to work in one piece.
edit to add: also, if you have a close call and it scares the shit out of you, pull over and gather wits back about you. It's healthy for and others. :D

I have to agree. After almost putting her in the wall on the 10 freeway I just pulled over and sat still for a while. It actually settled my nerves pretty quickly and let me continue to have a nice ride. And pulling back into traffic on the freeway from a standstill in the fast lane was actually pretty fun after a little break - even though I had seen my life flash before my eyes only a couple of minutes earlier {another vote for the crazy importance of countersteering - uh... when you remember to do it, that is}.

Sometimes this is harder than it should be. I always leave my house happy and fine but some of these cagers who put me and everyone else's lives in danger can really piss me off. I almost got run over twice this morning on my way to work.

See, now that sounds fun! :naughty
Your Mission should you choose to accept: Punch in for work in one piece and on time. :nerd
Get really good gear, lots of it. The best you can, it will give you confidence… And when you are prepping to go out, play O'Fortuna (the techno version) LOUD and have images of Gladiator running in your head... Maximus: [after swiftly dispatching another gladiator] “Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?” Scream that so hard the veins in your neck pop out. You're donning your battle gear, getting ready to face the enemy. Check the mirrors, check your petcock, check the action of the levers, insert the key with authority and bring the beast to life, warm up you steed. Pet her as she awakens and purrs to life, become connected, become as one with this instrument of motion, focus your attention to a point. All you have is your wits, gear and bike with which to enter the maelstrom and survive.
They will try to impede you but you will progress …
They will try to slow you but you will hasten …
They will try to hunt you but you will elude…
They will try to harm you but you will endure…
You will out accelerate, out brake, out corner, out maneuver and out think your foes; It will not be personal to you for the antagonists are faceless and nameless, no emotion will affect you, you are a machine with one mission and you will not be stopped, not denied your destiny…YOU WILL BE VICTORIOUS!!!!!!!!!
Honestly, things like this are the only way I make it thru most days... sad I know...
lytew8 11-21-2006, 11:23 AM Like rnd said, I would never ride but those odd days where you feel like life is perfect :O
But I know what we are getting at, stay sharp out there (or should I say in the garage) :( winter
antihero 11-21-2006, 12:34 PM Winter is for sissies. It's a high of 38 degrees out today and raining all day, I still rode to work. Of course I rode my Suzuki because my baby doesn't like to get wet but still.

+1
I'm going to have to ad O'fortuna to my iPod riding play list. Make it the first song I hear as I pull out of the drive way, or just wait to hit play when I first see the traffic!
PJFZ1 11-29-2006, 08:20 AM One of my favorite sayings:
If your heads not in it, Don't get on it.
If you ever get on your bike and are in an aggresive mood and think you've got total control of your bike and are ready to "tear it up". park it and take the car... Too many people forget that you need to think about the act of riding, and if you're not, you're screwing up.
If your heads not in it, Don't get on it.
Solid advice from an experienced rider. :thumbsup
