View Full Version : Introductions
I thought it would be nice to have a thread where new members would introduce themselves.
I'll start.
I'm your host, Alex. I live in San Jose, CA. Been riding for about 8 months, so I'm still very much a new rider. The current 599 is my second bike. (I kinda crashed the first 599. See details in the Accidents section.)
I started this forum for the love of the machine that deserves to have a website dedicated to it and it's riders. A place to share our experiences, knowledge, skills, and our lives.
I'm Mr. FiveNineNine, welcome to the family.
:ride
vthoky 10-11-2006, 06:43 PM Gee, this is going to start sounding like an AA meeting or something.
Hi, I'm Dan, and I'm a Hondaholic. (Group: "Hiiii, Dan.")
I'm a newbie to the 599/Hornet, but not so new to motorcycling. My first Honda was a Twinstar 200. Great as a college town commuter, but very underpowered relative to the newer ones. I sold the Twinstar in 1992 and bought a Yamaha Radian 600. Got married, sold my bike, bought a house, yada yada yada. Eleven years later, I stumbled across this 599. I went back to look at it several times over the summer, and two of my friends bought VTXs. After some arm-twisting from those guys (though I'm not the cruiser-bike sort) and following a little creative bargaining at home, I brought home this new 599 last August.
I'm glad to have a two-wheeler besides my mountain bike, and I look forward to warm-forecast days.
Next?
Super Sneaky Steve 10-11-2006, 07:37 PM I'm Steve and I got my first bike, an XR80 when I was 13.
I got my first serious motorcycle in 2002 and it was a DRZ400S. It was also my first street legal bike. From there I got an EX500 in 2004 and put 20k miles on it. Last month I bought my first Honda streetbike, a 2006 919. This bike will be with me for a very long time.
I'm 25 and I work for Diamler Chrysler doing Industrial Hygiene in South Eastern Michigan.
djamalt 10-13-2006, 10:15 AM Like Alex, I'm fairly new to riding. I did when I was knee high to a duck back in the day, but kids have no fear of death so it's not quite the same riding now. I picked up my 599 on April Fools Day of all days earlier this year and haven't looked back since. Took a while to select this bike, but the process began when I saw a Speed Tripple parked outside my office when I worked in NYC. After doing a lot of searching, I found naked bikes were my thing and the 599 called my name. So, here we are.
...the process began when I saw a Speed Tripple parked outside my office when I worked in NYC.
Funny that you said that... I love the Speed Triple. I love the bug eyes and the raw streetfighter look of it. Inbetween bikes I went to a dealership near my job (imagine that temptation!!!) and asked to test ride it.
...uhm....
When I got off that thing my knees felt weak and I thought my legs were going to give out. The bike's power is SICK. I don't think I ever got out of second gear the entire test ride. It was doing 60 in first gear like it was taking a vacation. Needless to say, it's was too much bike for me... I'm crazy, but I'm not suicidal just yet.
MotoGPFan26 10-13-2006, 10:54 PM Hello everyone. I'm Chris. I'm a new rider. Finished my MSF course 2 weeks ago. I was going to go with a Ninja 250 for a first bike, but after alot of thought and then finding a deal on an 04 model Hornet with 2003 miles on it...I just couldn't pass it up.
I've got my head screwed on the right way...and I hope that keeps me from losing my ass with this bike. It was a tough choice to get the Hornet because I know new riders don't need to start on a 600cc bike. But, the Honda Hornet is simply gorgeous...the most beautiful bike I've ever seen. So, that's how I came to get my bike. I'm supposed to pick it up this week.
I don't plan on leaving my subdivision and/or the road in front of my subdivision for quite awhile as I try to get used to riding the 599.
I look forward to talking to all of you and learning learning learning from all of you who have experience riding.
Ok...I'll run. It's great that we have a Hornet forum in the U.S. now...THANKS ALEX!
damnage 10-13-2006, 11:33 PM When I got off that thing my knees felt weak and I thought my legs were going to give out. The bike's power is SICK. Heeh. Yeah, the ZZR1200 I have is alot like that. Just sick torque and HP (142hp/87lbs/ft at the rear wheel). 60mph is about 6K in 2nd gear. The bike is actually quite tame below 5K. Above that it's a pure beast.
BTW, I love the Speed Triple as well. Europe gets a naked 675. They also get a naked R6. I wish they'd bring some of these bikes to the US!
J-nuine 10-14-2006, 12:27 AM What's goin on everyone I'm 28 riding on and off since i've been 16 started off with a 250 nighthawk, then to a fzr for about a couple of months, and after a long hiatius, picked up the 599 a year ago... i've always loved the naked look and was thinking about the triple and monster but i'm very happy and have never doubted my choice with the 599... well hope to meet up with you guys one of thse days. maybe for the 07 us swarm maybe some where in between so cali and nor cal? hmm don't want to leave peeps on the east coast out but where would be a good location. any suggestions?
Just wanted to pipe up and say hi to everyone. Just found this site after doing some searching on the new 2007 CB600F and whether or not they'll bring it to the States. If they do than i'm sure this will be my home for a good while as i plan on snatching one up.
I started riding back in 2001 when i was 20 and had an '82 Yamaha 650 Seca as my first bike. A year later i upgraded to an '83 Honda VF750F. I had that bike for a couple of years, and absolutely loved it. It was in mint condition with 16k on the clock. But then i got married, got busy, sold the bike and, as we all do in the end, regretted it. That was just a couple of years ago, but recently some of my buddies got a couple of old gixxers to ride around on. I took one for a little ride and was hooked again. I've been looking for a bike ever since. Now that i can afford a newer bike (as opposed to old 80's bikes) i've had to look around and see how they've all evolved in the past two decades. (It's a lot to catch up on. ;) ) I won't be getting a bike until early next year, but just wanted to introduce myself as i'll be hanging around for a while. I live around Durham, NC but just bought a house in Kansas City and will be moving there early next year. So...hi guys!
EDIT: Wound up buying a black '05 919 on November...2nd, i think. (See avatar.) Not a 599, but still part of the family. 8)
esmoglo 10-14-2006, 06:54 PM Hello and I am really glad we finally have a place here in the USA for the great 599 on the web. I have been riding now for over 17 years and really enjoy getting away from the wife and life when I hop one my bike. I fell in love with the 599 the first time I saw it in a photo and just had to have it. I have a yellow 2004 with a lot of modifications but it still has that great look with out going over the top. I will post some images soon on the forum as soon as I can.

tomacana 10-15-2006, 09:56 PM Hey it's good to have a stateside Hornet's Nest. I have an 04 Model that I picked up in Dec 05. It had 870 miles. Now has a bit over 9k. I hope the info and talk here is as good as the Old World nest.
What do I like about the Hornet?
Revs, third to 4th gear and much more.
buckeye 10-16-2006, 08:39 AM Howdy, folks! I've had my 599 (third bike) since October, 2004 and have put just over 14,000 miles on it so far. I'd have a lot more, but I picked up a 2006 Ducati ST3s ABS this year which I use for longer distance touring. I use the 599 as a daily commuter and track bike. Looking forward to reading everyone's posts!

can599 10-19-2006, 12:28 AM Well it looks like I`m the only rider from Canada...
Well here goes...i`m 28 yrs old been riding since i was 7 it all started cause of my dad (bikes in order)
1. 1974 Honda CT-70
2. 1974 Honda CT-90
3. 1985 Suzuki RM 80
4. 1987 Honda XL 185 (just got licence at this point)
5. 1986 Yamaha TW 200
6. 1982? Yamaha Seca 400
7. 1985 Kawasaki GPZ 305 (crashed write-off)
8. 1989 Kawasaki EX 500 (crashed 3 times time to go!!!)
9. 1994 Honda CBR600F2 (Dad didn`t want me to get scared)
10. 1982 Honda CB900 (Project bike converting to new age technology)
11. 2004 Honda CB599 (So cheap to insure and quiker then the F3)
These bikes were all mine I currently only have the CB599 and the CB900
it seems my future calls to be a collector like my father who has 8 bikes in the garage ( he likes the vintage) The 599 rides like a dream wheelies like a dream and gets tons of looks especially "beeing" yellow in all.
I have only seen 2 other 599`s in the city and they were both asphalt in color. I bought the bike this September, 2 days before my birthday. I figured I would treat myself. A friend of mine decided that he is going to buy one this summer coming up but hates the fact that I already have the Yellow One. He`ll just have to settle with the asphalt color.
One thing i noticed about the bike is that it was built in ITALY it actually has DUCATI written on some of the parts. Does anyone else have one from Italy in North America?
First of all, :welcome

As far as I know, ALL 599s are made in Italy and all use a number of ducati parts. Hence the often prohibiting pricetag and lack of popularity in USA.
can599 10-19-2006, 10:08 AM Here in Canada from what i`ve seen they all have japan VIN`s on them...thats what led me to ask.

Interesting :thinking
I guess I'm not nearly as informed as I thought I was.
59er9er 10-19-2006, 08:36 PM Hi Alex,
Good job with the forum. I sold my 599 before I left San Jose. I'm itching to ride here in NC but I haven't found my next bike yet. I'm looking for a dual sport or a supermotard.
I'll be checking your forum out regularly to see what people do to their 599s. I miss my 599 but I'm also excited about the euro spec 2007 599. If that hits the US marketplace before I pick up another bike that may be what I get. Check it: http://www.honda.co.uk/performanceart/
Good luck with this forum.
Sonny
damnage 10-19-2006, 08:41 PM Here in Canada from what i`ve seen they all have japan VIN`s on them...thats what led me to ask.
Shouldn't. The VIN should start with a "Z" which is Italy. If it starts with a "J" then it's Japan. The first digit (number or letter, is the country of origin).
I sold cars for 7 years. I do know a thing or two about VINs. :D I'm sure this is all easily looked up on the internet though.
stringburner 10-20-2006, 02:10 PM I didn't do this intro thing yet, so here she is.
My name is Tony. I live in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. I've been riding since I was in the third or fourth grade. Started on a 1978 Honda Mini-Trail 50. Besides riding, I work for my dad's company building homes. In my spare time, I like to run, go to the gym to resistance train, eat right, and be healthy, lean, and in general good shape. I'm kind of an endorphin junky at this point, so I don't expect to ever quit the health thing as long as i'm able. Otherwise, I like to river fish specifically for Smallmouth Bass (pound for pound the fightin'est, rootin' tootin' funnest fresh water fish you'll ever hook-up on....catch & release please), flatpick fiddle tunes on one of my acoustic guitars, spend mindless hours on these infernal computer contraptions, and tinker w/ bikes and vehicles. Oh yeah, did I mention I like beer? Not that light swill that most people like to sit around and imbibe in. Trust me, if that's what you drink, you either don't like beer or don't know what beer tastes like. I mean real beer like Yuengling, and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, and Sam Adams, and Stella Artois, and Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout, and, well, you get the picture. Anyway, nice to meet ya'll. I'm glad there is finally a dedicated 599 forum here in the good ole' U S of A. Lots of people missing out on these great bikes due to non-exposure on this side of the big pond.
Bikes I've owned: 1978 Honda Mini-Trail 50 (Ugh. Bought it new and it was broke down more than it wasn't), 1982 Suzuki RM80 (first year for the Full Floater mono-shock rear suspension. This bike was a rock. I rode the snot out of it and the only thing that ever happened to it was I fouled a plug after many years of abuse.), 1981 Suzuki TS185 (Only used bike I ever owned. Reliable as an anvil, and just as heavy. The front end would wash out in a turn more often than not), 1988 Yamaha FZ600 (Nice bike for the time. A deer hit me in the side one night. Blacktop hurts. Luckily I was only going about 35 mph. Traded it in on a) 1989 Kawasaki KDX200 (First year for liquid-cooled engine that was still in use right up until they stopped production in 2007. Took it back on warranty because the kickstart quit engaging and the dealer called me and said someone wanted to buy it, so I sold it.) Didn't have bike from 1989 until 2004: Bought a new KTM 200EXC (Wow. What an amazing machine. All kinds of trick bits from the factory like Renthal bars, hydraulic clutch, contour rotors, Brembo brakes, neat little orange backlit lcd computer/speedometer, and man it would scream. It would wheelie soooo easily, and it would run out to over 80 mph on the top end. A true factory race bike right out of the crate. Impressive.) 2004 Honda 599 (Current bike, and it's been a lot of fun. Very good for stalking and dispatching noisy Harley-Davidson riding baddasses)
Here's a pic of me a couple years ago fishing on the river:

stringburner 10-20-2006, 06:17 PM People never look how I imagine them in my head.
Funny how that works ain't it. I never even get close. If you talk to someone a really long time on here before you see them it's almost impossible to get rid of your burned in image of them out of your head. It's this dang bass-ackwards way of meeting people on the internet where you get to know them before you see them, instead of vice-versa.
You've got some of the most disturbing pictures there...
Welcome anyways.
stringburner 10-22-2006, 12:18 PM You must be talking about the world record man eating Grizzly Bear or the guy who wrecked his speedboat and ending up impaled on a dock abuttment.
Yup. I was hoping that wasn't a buddy of yours that got ate by a bear...
Those and the pig things...pretty disturbing, bro.
stringburner 10-24-2006, 01:33 PM Oh yeah, those things. I forgot all about them. Someone showed me that, or I stumbled across it somewhere, and it freaked me out, so I saved the photo. I don't know what in the hell they are, but i'm assuming they are some sort of Hollywood special effects...I hope anyways.

Chim Chim 11-16-2006, 01:35 PM Hello, My name is Chad I'm a Hondalochic :D
I purchased a new 2006 599 about 3 months ago, 2000 miles.
I had a couple of dirt bikes as a kid, a Kawasaki 75cc something(looked like a trail 50). Then I got a YZ80, back in the old days, when you had to mix your gas. So forward about 25 years and g/f decides she wants to learn to ride. I told her I thought I would always get another motorcycle.
So she bought a gz250, and we took the MSF course. We put 4000 miles on that Suzuki the last 2 years. So after buying house and settling in. I finaly got the street bike I have wanted the last few years, my 599.
She just bought a 2000 Honda Magna, so we are a two Honda family.
I've been lurking at Hondabikes.net and found this page. I'm glad I did.
When I saw I would be member 69, I had to sign up.
I'm pretty set up with equipment, got an Arai Quantum, Joe Rocket jacket and pants, gloves. Still need shoes or boots. I also need that Givi A305 I ordered Saturday to get here.
Anyway thats my story, and I'm sticking to it.
Chad
rndthought 11-16-2006, 03:30 PM :welcome Chim Chim Chad!
For the record, I love two strokes. (Steve, calm down  ) Make sure you chime in on the "599 for beginners" thread. You with your limited previous experience and your gal's perspectives would be greatly appreciated.
Don't know if you are a fan but if you live near The Swamp, it will be hard to express anything different - Go Gators!
Excellent Chad! Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the family.
MotoGPFan26 11-16-2006, 07:50 PM :welcome Chad. Hehe...nice you got number 69.
Great guys here, lots of fun, and everyone's like one big happy family.
Post up pics (which I have still not done myself). Had an Arai Quantum before I got my Corsair. I really liked the quantum. I think if Arai had made the quantum in a nice replica version...I might would have kept it.
Anyway...welcome aboard.
stringburner 11-16-2006, 08:02 PM Then I got a YZ80, back in the old days, when you had to mix your gas.
Dang. If you have a 2-stroke, you don't have to mix the gas nowadays? Welcome to the 599 forum. 8)
rndthought 11-17-2006, 01:32 AM Dang. If you have a 2-stroke, you don't have to mix the gas nowadays?
My first bike was a Yamaha Enduro 100. It had a separate reservoir for the oil and mixed it automatically. No mess, no fuss. Don't know what year it was exactly but it was something like a '75 I think... Maybe the strait up dirt bike didn't incorporate this until much later.
stringburner 11-17-2006, 05:24 AM I'm well aware of oil-injection systems. I owned a Suzuki TS185 years ago that had Suzuki's CCI oil-injection sysem. I'm sure there are still many instances where it oil-injection systems are still in use today such as in marine/watersport applications. The point is, 2 strokes aren't obsolete. They aren't something from "back in the day". Sheesh. :? And what in tarnation is a "strait(sic) up dirt bike"? :?:
rndthought 11-17-2006, 06:58 AM Sorry, reading too many sailing books...and didn't intend to imply anything other than that a straight up dirt bike like specific purpose may be different than The Enduro 100 as it was like a crossover, had blinkers and such that could be taken off so was meant for less extreme situations and was probably designed to be more user friendly. Two strokes are still kina popular in dirt bikes but don't know if they require pre mix, everyone I know has 4 strokers just for the ease of maintenance issues.
stringburner 11-17-2006, 01:46 PM Two strokes are still around, but their days are probably numbered due to CARB (Kalifornia's emmisions standards), the EPA, and some new Euro3 (iffy on that) standards. 2 cycle engines could, and have, been made to burn very clean, via fuel injection and oil injection systems, but due to various reasons, the demand in this country is dropping. Honda is partly responsible, because they are a huge corporation, and they were the first to say they will stop producing 2 cycle engines. European makers (KTM, Husqvarna, GasGas) are still designing and producing state of the art 2 strokes, but unfortunately, I don't know how long we will be able to get them in this country. Hopefully awhile yet. Five years ago if someone would have told me Supercross bikes would predominantly be 4 stroke machines, I would never have believed it. Odd.
everyone I know has 4 strokers just for the ease of maintenance issues.
It depends on what kind of 4 stroke they have. A low tech, single cam, 2 steel valved XR, or the various DR, KLX, TT playbikes are very reliable and require virtually no maintenance. A state of the art, 13,000 rpm, high compression, 5 titanium valved motocross machine requires much, much more maintenance to keep them happy. For comparison, a 2 stroke top-end has a piston, a cylinder, an intake port, and an exhaust port (basically an intake hole on the carb side of the cylinder, and an exhaust hole on the exhaust side), and that's pretty much it. A 4 stroke has valves, springs, retainers, timing chains, timing gears, camshafts, etc. A 2 stroke makes power every revolution of the engine. A 4 stroke makes power every other engine cycle. 2 strokes by design produce more power. That's why the 250cc class in supercross has 450cc 4 stroke bikes in it. It takes nearly twice as much displacement to make comparable horsepower/torque numbers. When you break/seize the top end on a 2 stroke, it costs you about 200 dollars. When you blow the stack on one of those new fangled 4 hunnys (and it happens alot. I see lots of suspension parts for sale on Ebay because their engines came apart "violently"), you're looking at 2 grand, maybe more. Lots of people are coming back to 2 strokes because of that, and that they weigh alot less, and are less top heavy due to less parts in the top end. That and there is nothing quite like the feeling of a well tuned 2 stroke when it comes on the pipe. :D
rndthought 11-17-2006, 02:16 PM ...That and there is nothing quite like the feeling of a well tuned 2 stroke when it comes on the pipe. :D
For me it was the sound and the smell...just loved that.
...all I know is that they say the two strokes were a PIA as far as taking care of...None of them are a Mcgarth so all mid range Yama's and Honda's.
Hi all - just found out about this forum over on fireblades.org and thought I'd check it out. Looks great! I'm riding a 9'er but hopefully you won't hold that against me -- we're all related here, right? :) Prior to the 919, I rode an ST1300, FZ1, and a Magna. I'm in western New York on the south shore of Lake Ontario. Cheers!

PJFZ1 11-29-2006, 07:52 AM Hello all!!
Just wanted to say hi.. One of your members pointed me here, and of course I had to come sneel a look and post a bit..
I'm in Central Kentuky, do rides at Deals Gap often, and generally like to talk, so posting come pretty naturally! :D
I'll pop in and stir the pot occasionally, but it's all in good fun!
Welcome aboard, PJFZ1! I take it you own, or have owned an FZ1? I had one for a while. Nice bike. Lots of 'spirit' :) Where abouts are you in central KY? I have a close friend in Bardstown. Love that area.

Ah good. Snagged another member.
I can certainly vouch that PJ likes to talk...definately a people person and is very prompt and good about communication. It was a pleasure dealing with him.
So anyway, welcome to the forum, PJ! :welcome
Pepper 11-29-2006, 12:25 PM Hi,
I'm Sarah from Canada and am on an 06 599. I spent a couple of years riding a CBX 250, and then fell in love with the Hornet.
Really happy to find out this forum exists :D

tamu8993 11-29-2006, 12:39 PM Hi! I'm de-lurking!
I'm Melanie, took the BRC in June, and the yellow '04 599 is our first bike. I have been having a blast riding it so far, although I don't get out as much as I would like to!
You guys are funny! And one thing our instructor mentioned for the guys, was never adjust the pre-load for a 2-up ride when your lady friend is standing right there!
Super Sneaky Steve 11-29-2006, 12:49 PM Oh man, if we get anymore girls around here they will start calling the 599 a chick bike!
I'll try not to scare them off this time. :P
upraveenk 11-29-2006, 01:06 PM :x Damn.. I'v been asking few questions in the forum but never got to introduce myself.. but now is my oppurtunity .. here we go...
I'm Praveen from India but currently in Los Angeles (Culver city). Iv been riding since my 6th grade .. so I have roughly 15 years of riding experience. I started with a Suzuki Samurai ..100cc.. Kawasaki Pulsar 150cc.. Honda Karisma 250cc.. they are all the Indian version. Ever since I moved to the US I wanted to lay my hands on a motorcycle but everytime I bring up this idea all my friends would discourage me from doing it. But that was in Cincinnati and when I moved work to NBC Universal last March, my mindset changed. The traffic, long hours of commute, hiking gas prices (I have a Volvo S80 Turbo  ) etc.. influenced me to go for a motorcycle and to rediscover my passion for riding.
After my research I initially decided to buy the new SV650 but thanks to the close out sale on a brand new 04' 599.. Im now a proud owner of a Hornet .. yeeeyy!!! :ride
One of the most craziest things to do is to be riding on the streets of India. Iv done that for 15 yrs and so Iv learnt riding the hard way. I was confident abt sneaking through gaps like a snake.. so that was the easy part. But not at all used to the leaning thing on the curves at high speeds. Im working on it ..would get there in due course of time. Would luv to have somebody teach me on that part in person.. so anybody in this forum who lives in LA.. and know how to get ur knees low down..pls let me know. And.. I have my pics posted already.. so thats abt it. Well.. finally ... this forum is so awesome .. so much info.. and ppl here are pretty cool 8) Thanks for having me in guyz!!
antihero 11-29-2006, 01:35 PM Wow, upraveenk. Riding in India must have been much different than here (the land of the large SUVs).
.. so anybody in this forum who lives in LA.. and know how to get ur knees low down..pls let me know.
Take a look at the Group Rides Section (http://www.honda599.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=9)... a few members of this site live in Los Angeles.
Melanie, Sarah - welcome to the forum! I hope you have a great time here! Definitely post pictures of your bikes if you get a chance.
:welcome
upraveenk 11-29-2006, 02:52 PM Oh yeah.. its more fun riding in India. The only thing that initially bothered me was the average speed at which everyone travels in the US but got used to it quickly. Back in India Trucks / Buses were considered dangerous to ride alongside .. but the major kill factor is the heat. It gets really hot out there !!
Brad Pitt said that he enjoyed riding a bike when was in India recently. Probably we should ask him more about that.

Johnny Random 12-11-2006, 11:51 AM 599 newb here from NC. I don't own one myself but my dad just got a black 2006 a few weeks ago. I must say it is a blast to ride. I currently have 06 ZZR600 that I can't complain about one bit. He probably will not get any mods for it so that is why I signed up here. My brother and I will have to mod it for him.
We are glad he upgraded from his Shadow 600. Could not keep up with us very well on our 600's.
Only recent pics I have of mine getting custom made GP style exhaust installed.

That's a sweet looking bike you got there. What year is it? Let us know how that exhaust turns out for ya.
Great bike, Johnny! Welcome to the forum! 8)
Johnny Random 12-11-2006, 03:44 PM Thanks guys. Its a 2006. The new ZZR600s are pretty much just rebadged 2000-2002 ZX6Rs. I have only riden it a couples times with the new exhaust and it really screams. Been traveling a lot for work to Puerto Rico so not much time to ride. Might reach 60s this weekend so I hope to take it out.
GETCH 12-20-2006, 09:03 PM Just want to give shout out to the American Hornet's nest !
I just joined the forum, but I have been riding my 599 since Nov 2003; first one on the and off the floor. Since then I have put 50,000 + miles on her. daily commuter and canyon carver.
I had the Honda windscreen installed when I got the bike. Not sure if you can order it any longer. Used to be able to order a center stand too; same for the 919.
I had my first accident last Tuesday though. A chic merged into me from the right and forced me into another car. Nowhere to go. I'll post pics once I find my way around this site.
I had Motovation framesliders but I am looking for something a little bit cooler. Any ideas?
I also want to replace the square mirrors; any ideas?
Has anyone located an American supplier of 599 aftermarket parts?
Also, for better torque in the low end, go u 3 in the rear or 1 in the front. Makes a hell of a difference; you can wheely easier. Also better for carving the mountains becaue ou do not have to shiift as much.
This is a great website! I never realized how many Cali riders out there have 599s or 919s. I've seen a total of 3 in SoCal since I got my ride.
Bike will be ready to ride again in a week or 2.
:thumbsup

My name is Elias (Friends call me Eli), originally from NJ just outside of NYC. Move to Atlanta where i got my BS in Mech Engineering and have since moved to Houston, TX for work. Been here for ~2.5 years.
Always wanted a bike, I've rented bikes in Europe (mostly scooters) and rode my friend's R6 a few times in Atlanta. My GF got me a MSF weekend course for my bday earlier this year, so naturally after getting my license I went and bought a bike within the year.
I originally wanted an R6, but after researching some I found the 599. I loved the look and thought it would be a great starter bike. I also thought it would be more comfortable for around town riding than a full blown sportsbike. I also didn't want to end up with something I would get bored with after a year (like a ninja 250). I plan on keeping this one.
MODS: I've only added the Givi A305 windscreen since I got it. Next I plan on getting a hugger, doing a F/E and CA Taillight. I'd really like to get some Bar End mirrors too. I think the stock ones are hideous. Too bad these toys aren't cheap huh?
I'll post some pics later when i get home. Don't have any here on my work laptop.
Also: A thanks to everyone out there for all the posts. You guys really have a great nest of info going.
goWVU 04-08-2007, 03:39 PM I'm not new here, but I've never introduced myself. Plus it seems like this thread kinda died. I'm Jeremy, 27, originally from WV (Go Mountaineers!) and have lived in Delaware for the last 3 years. I bought my (first) bike in August 06 and ride it every chance I get. It would be nice to ride it back in WV, I know where some damn good twisties are. Delaware is a little too flat...

Slide 04-17-2007, 10:21 AM I just notice this post... My name is Tim from Ontario, Canada. I bought my Asphalt 2004 Hornet in March of 2005. I love this damn bike and I have put on over 15K. I use my 599 for commuting, touring and track days. And can you believe it... no mods!
I have picked up a GSG Moto Carbon Fiber rear hugger but I am still awaiting delivery... I guess it has t come from Germany to CA then back up to the north. Bought some Russell SS lines and Motovation frame sliders - which aren't on yet... it's still snowing!
Also contemplating a full Hindle exhaust system (Hindle headers and Ti Oval muffler). It could happen in the next week.
I need to find a good undertail, rear lights, license holder set up as well.
That's it! Love riding every time I can and love this bike. And it was awesome coming across this forum... Solid peeps all round!!!

dario 05-02-2007, 02:19 AM Hello!
I have been visiting this forum for few days now and decided to register.
I am a bit of an outsider I guess, since I live across the ocean in a little country called Croatia (just east of Italy).
We call our Hornets here CB600F, but I think we still share the same passion for this wonderful naked bike.
Not long ago I bought together with my father both the CB600F 2007 model and a Varadero 1000 (which I do not know if its sold in US, link (http://www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/DispatcherServlet?hidActionDetail=viewproductdetai l&hidAction=Lookup&hidProductID=4&hidSelectedProductCode=XL1000V+ABS+Varadero&hidProductName=XL1000V+ABS+Varadero&hidMSGID=1&hidMSGCode=ADVENTURE&hidMSGName=Adventure&hidBannerPath=%2FmcStatic%2Fen%2Fpicture%2Fproduct %2FXL1000V+ABS+Varadero%2Fprd_main_Banner.jpg&hidHomePath=%2Fjsp%2FmsgADVENTUREHome.jsp#focusHer e)).
The Varadero still did not arrive but we picked up the Hornet just yesterday and I cannot even hope to describe the emotions! The bike is beautiful in every way although I did not think I would like the new headlight/instrument panel at first.
This is not my first bike but I do consider myself a beginner. I rode a Honda Transalp rally-touring 650 for a bit over a year now passing 13000+ km.
Now a bit of personal info: my name is Dario, I am a 23 yo student, hopefully to be employed by autumn of this year. I have passion for many things, beginning from motorbikes, computers, scuba-diving etc... it is hard at time to satisfy all of these but I do my best : )
As I mentioned, I got these bikes together with my father and we generally share our toys, be it bikes, cars, etc...
Thats all for the introduction post : )

Holy crap, you're not kidding. That really is stock as they come. I think you should really invest in some smaller turn signals. Maybe some LEDs. Trust me, it will make the bike look better for a small price.
Sachi 05-02-2007, 07:34 AM Welcome, Dario! It's nice to see a face here from Croatia - an interesting country I'm sure.
And you are right, we in the US, at least, do not get the Varadero. :(
Welcome to the forum Dario. No one person who joins this forum is an outsider, no matter where they are from. If you have interest in the 599/Hornet/CB600F - you're in the right place.
I just visited Croatia not even two weeks ago. It was my honeymoon and we got to wander around Dubrovnik for a few hours. It was one of my most favorite places, and I saw about 12 during my trip.
femaletrouble3 06-06-2007, 05:38 PM Hey everybody,
Hello from SW Virginia. I'm new to the forum and have a new '06 599, but I'm not new to riding... I'm just getting back into it.
I rode dirt/enduro bikes from about '75-'81, got into sport street riding from about '86-'91 (during part of which I owned a red/white/blue instance of the fanastic 2-stroke Yamaha RZ-350). I then took a big break until just recently.
Someone gave me a '81 SECA 750 which I got road worthy (complete with antique plates!). Rode it around a bit and decided that I would get back into cycling for real with a new street bike. Started looking around to see what was available and immediately fell for the 599.... looks, performance, and displacement--I've always been a fan of small-to-mid size displacement bikes.
What an fun bike the 599 is! Everytime I take it out I like it more!
Anyway, here's a pic of my new totally stock 599:

Reidar 08-14-2007, 04:38 PM Hi all!
Nice forum you got here!
About me:
42 years old biker, sold my 2000 Blackbird (1100xx) last year and bought a brand new 2007 Hornet early this year. I do believe this is my seventh mc.
I realised that mine rides are shorter and I appreciate the handling (between cars in major city's) more than the horsepower and comfort you get on the Blackbird.
6200km and one rear tyre gone so far this year.
Not much accessories to the 2007 yet, but I do not miss anything - for now, after the Hugger and a GPS installed (Garmin Zumo 500).
Keep the rubber side down!
Sachi 08-14-2007, 05:12 PM Ooooh, a DoD member . . . :D
Welcome, Reidar! Nice color of bike!

You're the first member of this forum with '07 hornet. Unfortunately, they didn't bring them to US or Canada, so we don't get to see a live one in this neck of the woods.
Good to have you and I hope we'll get to see more pictures of your beast in it's natural habitat.
Reidar 08-15-2007, 02:07 AM Thanks!
I made a WEB page in a hurry before work today. Not much but some pictures of mine Hornet.
It is a quite slow line the server is hooked up on, but it normally works fine.
Please feel free to ask for some special pictures.

Reidar 08-15-2007, 11:38 PM Thanks again all!
I have red some discussion about colour at this forum. The old ;) models might look good in black, but the yellow looks faster – and isn’t it the look that counts?
I must admit I was a little bit surprised by the 599 when I discovered that it fits mine 6’4 perfect. Although I am a little bit afraid to ask others how it looks ;)
After 6500km (about 4039 miles) I am still very happy with the choice and I can’t really see any reason to trade in the bike. I might possible buy others in the future, but I really like the thought of keeping the 599 – just for the fun.
JohnG 10-02-2007, 11:04 PM Hi,
My name is John. I'm from Phoenix and will turn 46 soon. In my younger days, I rode a kawasaki 550 ltd for a bit. Got the bug realy bad again. Picked up my 599 about 2 weeks ago. Was looking at cruisers but thought that I wanted to ride a bike instead of getting pulled by it, matter of perception, I guess.
Saw the 919's/599's sitting off to the side the next time went into the bike shop, went back againto look again and went back the 3rd time to buy one. Looked at the SV650, FZ6, really liked the Honda though, and it feels great. Love to ride it.
Taking the MSF this week, took about a 2 hour ride on sunday, and still go to a big empty parking lot (stadium where the super bowl will be played this year) just to still feel it out, braking, turning and just around bonding with the bike.
I could swear I already said this, but :welcome

fastkick599 10-25-2007, 08:22 PM Hi my name is Paul. I got my 599 last Aug.2007. Always wanted to ride a sportsbike . My car got rearended on a stoplight. And so it was love at first sight reading the 599 in the what bike magazine. Took an MSF course and went for this baby. Loved the naked look of this bike...and the unique powerful sensation the engine has to offer for a newbie like me.

Opticycler 10-27-2007, 05:31 AM Hello everyone- I'm new to computers, only had one for about a year, but I've been riding for about 35 years +-. It all started with my 5hp briggs mini bike. Soon after I purchased a new 1978 Honda xl125 with my paper route money. My first street bike was a 1984 Interceptor 500. Presently I have a 1976 cb400f, a KDX200, and still have the xl125! My main ride is my 2004 599, purchased new. It's a fantastic bike. Some say it's a "jack of all trades, master of none bike".... I think of it as a Master jack of all trades bike. I've ridden many different motorcycles, so far the 599 is my favorite. Wheelies AND good fuel mileage, what more could you want!

Well said my man. Look forward to hearing many interesting tales from the likes of you. WELCOME aboard.
Hi, I'm Victor. Just received my first bike today: a 2006 black 599. I had a 2004 but I couldn't ride it because I was relocated form Europe to the US.
Welcome Vic and Opticycler! Good to have you both.
robkb 10-28-2007, 05:40 PM From MEMPHIS? Hell, yeah! That's what I'm talking about. I live 95 miles south of Mempho, but I get up to Southhaven all the time. On The Border in Southaven is fixing to start "Biker Night" on Wednesdays, or so I've been told. Maybe I'll see you there. 8)
LeatherWings 10-28-2007, 05:44 PM Sure are alotta Mymphos lurking around on the internet... :shifty
Opticycler 10-28-2007, 05:56 PM Thanks for the welcomes! I'm glad I found this site, I was beginning to think I was the only one with a 599. Over the last 4 years, I've put over 10k miles on my bike, and 70k miles in my cage and have never seen another 599. I've passed two 919's near here, and passed another while on my bike at Laconia bike week. 'Tis good to be a member of such a select group.
LeatherWings 10-28-2007, 06:42 PM Welcome Opticycler, glad you could join us! This is where we Hornet riders have shunned the outside world and started our underground society. :grouphug
Opticycler 10-28-2007, 06:52 PM My mom always told me I was special, I just figured I was the only one,.... untill now.

HIGH SIDE 11-06-2007, 07:02 PM Just saying hi.
Purchased a new 599 10-20-07, after selling my last bike, a CB 1000, to a friend. What I imagined was that I was going to live without a street bike for a year, it lasted 3 weeks.
I started riding ... this is hard to say, 30 years ago.
yeroC 11-07-2007, 06:16 AM :welcome HIGH SIDE!! And let's not have any actual high sides!
fastkick599 11-07-2007, 12:43 PM Hi! SIDE! 30 years riding wow!... :welcome from a certified newbie.
HIGH SIDE 11-07-2007, 04:32 PM The high side seems to be the way I choose to wreck, normally.
TooManyIDs 11-10-2007, 07:34 PM Came across the site as I was researching 599's. Closed a deal to purchase a new 2006 599 yesterday from a dealer in Oregon. Won't see her for a while due to shipping, but looking forward to it. I've always had a preference for what's currently called standard / naked bikes (we didn't have a name for it 20 years ago). I like to see the engine, it's part of the beauty of a bike, so never cared for the fairings of a sport bike (but understand the purpose). Thought about a used V-Rod, like the looks, but they really are expensive and I'm not ready for a cruiser anyway.
Haven't owned a bike in many many years. My first was a '73 Honda CB350, back around 1976. My second was a '78 CB550K4 around 1980, which I had for a couple years?
Just traded my Vette to get a second car that could hold my kids, so life was looking a little dull with no toy. I'll enjoy having something to tinker with and look forward to riding. Hopefully, we'll have a mild winter.
Any and all tips concerning the bike are most welcome. Thanks.
Transient 11-10-2007, 08:20 PM TooManyIDs - we're right in the same area! I work up in Plano.
You'll love the 599. It's really a great machine. There are tons of tips littered through the forums here as well as over at the UK Hornet's Nest. My favorite recent tip: you don't need to pull the clutch lever all the way. It disengages very early in its travel and you'll shift a lot more smoothly if you don't go the unnecessary distance.
Granted, this is surely obvious to a seasoned rider. :P
Welcome HIGH SIDE and TooManyIDs :welcome I have been fortunate enough to experience a few of those Honda 350's, though never highsided one! :D
LittleInsect 11-21-2007, 11:28 AM I started riding ... this is hard to say, 30 years ago.
huh! novice!
I got my motorcycle licence in 1964
jeez, I'm old :(
geobeck 12-06-2007, 01:46 PM Hmm, seems as though this would have been the best place to post an intro, so I'll just link to the forum thread where I essentially introduced myself already... :P

pillowpants 12-08-2007, 07:19 AM Hello,
I'm new here and just wanted to say hello. Bought a 04 asphalt 599 the day before thanksgiving. It only had 2000 miles on it and looked practically brand new. Since then I've only got to ride it a few times, but I absolutely love it. I've been riding a 02 Honda Shadow for about a year. Had a little problem on the 599 after purchasing it. Either bad gas or my inexperience caused the plugs to foul out and I had to replace them. Drained the tank and carbs, refilled and cranked right up. I got most of that advice reading this forum so thanks. Any advice for a newbie 599 rider?
Transient 12-08-2007, 11:53 AM Any advice for a newbie 599 rider?
1. Memorize the fuel petcock location from a riding position.
2. The clutch disengages very early in the travel. Shifting is far more smooth if you don't grab and pull it all the way.
3. Don't read the accessories/mods forum or look at others bikes, as this has an inexplicable evaporative effect on your finances.
Any advice for a newbie 599 rider?
First off congratulations and :welcome
Now, as far as tips go, you should start with 50 Ways to Save Your Life (http://www.honda599.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=569) and then explore more of the Riding Tips section (make sure to looks at the books thread). If you have any questions thereafter, just ask.
djamalt 12-09-2007, 03:58 PM Welcome Pillow, so glad you found us.
Any advice for a newbie 599 rider?
Enjoy every minute of the ride.
3. Don't read the accessories/mods forum or look at others bikes, as this has an inexplicable evaporative effect on your finances.
+1 -- that is solid advice unless you happen to have a bunch of money laying around, and if that's the case I have a nice little fund on Paypal set up that you can feel free to donate to anytime you wish.
pillowpants 12-09-2007, 04:56 PM Thanks guys. No I don't have a lot of money left after buying the bike so no mods for now. I'm not a newbie bike rider, just a newbie 599 rider. And yes I am loving every minute so far.
JHenley17 12-09-2007, 08:20 PM Hey, a fellow BR 599'er... I think maybe I saw you when I was coming home from work once, but it was dark, so not entirely sure... it was at Bluebonnet and I10 around rush hour, don't remember when exactly.
pillowpants 12-10-2007, 04:39 AM No it probably wasn't me. I've only got to ride it like 4 times since I bought it. Mostly up and down Airline. Went to bike night at Friendly's last thurs., but that's about it.
JHenley17 12-10-2007, 11:47 AM Ah. Went there once... too many wheelies and shit for me... I just want to ride...
pillowpants 12-10-2007, 01:33 PM Yea, I don't care much for all that showing off either, but I do have a few responsible friends up there who just enjoy riding too.
Charleegirl 12-11-2007, 11:05 AM Hey, hey, 3 of us from Louisiana, how about that, although I have yet to see another 599 since I got mine in March of 2005!!
mechanic77 12-11-2007, 12:49 PM did I hear someone say wheelie?? :D
JHenley17 12-11-2007, 01:02 PM Hey, hey, 3 of us from Louisiana, how about that, although I have yet to see another 599 since I got mine in March of 2005!!
Same here, except that one questionable I saw, and I've only had mine for about 6 months. SVs always get my hopes up...
You can get your fill of wheelies at our local bike night... from what I saw, they'll be doing them down the highway in front of the dealer that I bought my bike from for hours. Strange that the cops never catch on...
pillowpants 12-11-2007, 04:05 PM The cops are there pretty frequently. But your right about how ridiculously blatant it is.
So I finally made up my mind... and I bought a new '06 599 las weekend after lurking here for the last couple of weeks. :D
Thanks for the site, there's lots of good info here!
robkb 12-23-2007, 08:37 PM 599... Good choice, carl! :welcome
djamalt 12-23-2007, 09:34 PM YES! Another So Cal rider. Welcome aboard friend. I look forward to seeing you up at the Rock Store. Is this your first bike?
Thanks for the welcome guys.
So far (~300 mi.) I'm very impressed, and sure i've made the right choice. This is my first proper street bike, as i've spent the last year on a dual-sport (http://powersports.honda.com/motorcycles/off-road/model.asp?ModelName=XR650L&ModelYear=2007&ModelId=XR650L7) bike (until some f*#k&n scumbag up and stole it). I decided to go with a street bike this time as I found I was just spending much more time on the streets getting to the dirt, not enough actual dirt riding...
I'm really liking it so far, though It's a whole new beast compared to the XR, so it may be a little bit before I hit the rock store or newcombs again any time soon :)
Cheers!
Awesome choice
:welcome
rndthought 12-27-2007, 07:21 AM If I lived some place that had decent off-road trails, think I'd still have a dual sport... Welcome! Don't fret too much, I think you'll soon be thanking that thief...
Rich-in-MO 12-31-2007, 11:28 AM Hi All, just found this site. Wow, I hadn't searched for any 599 sites for a couple of years. Last one I was on was that "other" Hornets Nest. So cool to actually have a site just for the 599. Anyways, I'm Rich from MO (Ft. Leonard Wood area). I have a 2004 599 that I bought new in July '04. It was my first motorcycle other than limited dirt bike experiance. I'm mostly an ATV guy. I have over 7000 miles on it now and just replaced the tires. I tried the Honda flyscreen and wasn't impressed so I went with a Plexifairing 3 for wind protection. I know, not too "sporty", but it keeps you out of the wind (bugs, rain, etc) like a champ.
:welcome Rich. Good to have you.
yeroC 01-02-2008, 01:31 PM Welcome aboard!! 8)
ThickMick 01-08-2008, 10:47 AM Hello!
Been lurking around this site for a while and it has really helped in making up my mind about the 599! I'll be purchasing a new 2006 at the end of this month so don't expect to hear from me again between that date and next winter as I will be riding haha...
I will post up some pictures as soon as I get her home (I'll be the guy in the background jumping for joy) :woohoo
:welcome and good luck! PS. You're member 500 on this forum!
JHenley17 01-08-2008, 01:48 PM Congrats on the purchase! or impending purchase... the hardest time is waiting for delivery. I knew I was getting my Firebird two weeks before delivery and it was hell...
n2citrus 01-15-2008, 09:20 AM I might as well jump in here. My name is Michael, I live in Central California. I started riding three wheelers and dirtbikes waaaay back in the late 70's. I got my first taste of Honda streetbikes with the introduction of the Interceptor back in 1983. I took one look at that bike and I was hooked! Over the years I rode a Honda Shadow and most recently a 1983 Honda Nighthawk.
Two years ago I stroll into the local Honda dealership and stop dead in my tracks as I took in the 599 for the first time. It was a 2006 model, and I quickly ran home and looked up the bike online. As soon as I saw the 2004 Asphalt that was it, that was the bike for me! During my online search I also discovered this site, and have been lurking here since last summer.
Finally on January 9, 2008 I purchased my 04 asphalt Hornet. I have already put 100 miles on it, and without a doubt, have found my perfect match. The wife was hesitant to drive it at first, but once she did, her first question to me was "what other colors does it come in?". Here we go again!
-Michael
P.S. Still riding old three wheelers by the way. I have a pair of 85 ATC 350X's, a 250 SX, 200M and 200X. Gotta have fun in the sand ya know!
JHenley17 01-15-2008, 10:14 AM I'm not knocking, but what's the appeal of 3-wheelers? I rode a few when I was younger and the instability just seemed to really limit what I could do with one. I can remember almost flipping one because I braked too hard...
Congrats on the purchase, BTW. It seems that most people that get these bikes instantly fall in love with them the first time they see them...
:welcome Michael! Looking forward to seeing you around.
n2citrus 01-15-2008, 11:53 AM Well on the topic of three wheelers I grew up with them on the farm, and if you have ever been in the sand on one you would instantly fall in love with it. As far as instability goes, you just need to learn how to ride the machine to handle it correctly, which goes for any vehicle, motorcycle or otherwise. After over 30 years on them I have had my share of spills, but nothing worse than a broken finger.
Here is a link to a pic of my 350X on the track:

JHenley17 01-15-2008, 04:01 PM Oh... wow... yeah, I guess they can be controlled... that looks like a hell of a lot of fun...
Welcome Michael! Nice collection of ATC's, by the way! I'm a big three-wheeler fan as well. :thumbsup
LChasPro 01-22-2008, 09:03 PM I go by Chaz
And still getting the leg up ,feels good! But then again they all do. And I am easily confused about all this stuff
I like sitting upright and am no spring chicken! I have an old liter bike and I love it but being old when something needs fixing it takes a bit to get parts. :(
Been a lot of years since I rode a dirt bike before this, I was bored so took an MSF class, got my license and the brother bike! ;) You know it's recommended by 4 of 5 bros the other hasn't ridden it.
I'm leaning towards a 599 and was wondering about a few things before I commit.
Glad I found ya boys and girls!
:welcome to the forum Chaz. Check out this thread (http://www.honda599.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=84) for more info.
SwordandScales 01-23-2008, 11:16 AM Hello everyone!
My name is Quincy, I'm a 19 yr. old U.S. Marine stationed here in Cherry Point, NC. I am definitely a Hondaholic, starting at a young age. When I was 12 I rode my very first: an XR 100 off-road bike. Then when I was around 15 I got an XR 250, and also a fairly grungy '94 Civic EX Coupe. I worked on the car more than the bike, and as state laws continued to restrict riding areas, I ended up on the tracks more than the wilderness which were easy to grow tired of. I stopped riding off-road when I was 17, and haven't been out since. When I got back from boot camp I purchased an '06 Accord V6 Coupe, and that was pretty nice for awhile until I had to let it go back in October for financial reasons. But, I stuck with Honda and got an '02 Acura RSX Type S. So, yeah, I am definitely a Honda man, tried and true.
I've been looking fervently for a 599, and finally found a black '06 at a dealer. Unfortunately, at the time, I can't afford one at all, but this summer I am looking at being freed of some bills, and also being promoted, so hopefully, by this time, I'll be one of the few people lucky enough to sit their butts on one of these bad boys.
n2citrus 01-23-2008, 06:35 PM Welcome aboard!
LChasPro 01-23-2008, 08:27 PM Still deciding on the fence I am such a flake and man I could get this or this or that I'm like a kid in the candy store! :D
I'll check it out ALex
robkb 01-23-2008, 08:41 PM I can't imagine having another bike. The 599 is just so good. You know! You've seen it. It's tough! The only thing I've ever read "bad" about the 599 was its price. The price difference between it and its competitors, though, was nothing because I chose to put excellence and having the best over a few bucks.
The bike looks great. And it rides so good, too.
Whatever you buy, you'll bond with. You owe it to yourself the experience of bonding with such a fine motorcycle.
JillGat 01-29-2008, 09:09 PM Hi all!
Just graduated from a Ninja 250 - which I loved - to my new 2006 Black 599, which I am due to pick up tomorrow! Just hope the ice is melted by then. I fell in love with this bike when I first saw a picture of it in 2004. Although I've flirted with other motorcycles (most recently the green Triumph Street Triple that I took for a test ride. Shhh! Don't tell my Honda). I've had a soft spot for Hondas since my boyfriend rode me all around the Calif. Bay Area on his 1971 CB350 when I was in high school.

Rich-in-MO 02-04-2008, 08:21 AM Michael, glad to see another 3-wheeler enthusist here. I currently have an '85 250R and an '84 200S (many others throughout the years). Been riding trikes since I was 12 (now 36). I'm sure you have probably been here but check out www.3wheelerworld.com when you get a chance, great 3-wheeler site.
carlitos_92 02-15-2008, 07:57 PM Hey, all.
Just recently joined up to look for a 599 for sale. Was having mixed results on eBay and the other usual suspects. This'll be my first bike, and I've done the MSF course, rode dirtbikes as a kid, and borrowed a Ninja 600 in college a lot. I've loved this bike since it came out in the U.S., and finally got the green light from the ol' lady to park a two-wheeler in the garage. All things willing, we'll be practicing on some slow roads before the weather's even nice.
I'm late-thirty-ish and in Dallas. I've enjoyed lurking a bit (if you can call it that, reading posts from two years ago) and have REALLY enjoyed Sneaky Steve's maintenance videos. Yes, I am the kind of nut that will download and read an owner's manual for a bike I don't even own yet!
Thanks for making this a great forum, and I look forward to being able to sit my butt on a 599 of my own soon.

Suter 02-19-2008, 12:45 PM Hello everyone,
My name is Marcin, but everyone call me Suter. I can say I'm new to everything here (forum, city, country). I come to US from Poland a couple of months ago. And I'm living now in Stamford, CT.
I don't have a bike yet, but in a couple of months I know it will be Hornet. Just need some more time to set up things with house/cars etc. And I have to by all the gear before I get a bike.
I was thinking about SV650 or FZ6, but 599 is the one that I like the most.
Thanks for a great place with so many advices!!
Welcome Suter... to the country and to the forum! Good luck finding yourself a Hornet. They are worth the wait!

I believe Al Lambs has one, or High Five Cycles. I seem to recall one being on eBay recently. They show up in CycleTrader. There's also one in Sherman. It looks like the one at Al Lambs is new.
When you get it, perhaps those of us in DFW should have a meet or something.
carlitos_92 02-19-2008, 02:54 PM When you get it, perhaps those of us in DFW should have a meet or something.
^ :thumbsup
Al Lamb's postured themselves pretty aggressively on price the last time I was there. AFAIK, they've had 2 or 3 '06s for a loooong time. They're slowly coming down as they realize where the market really is, but I wasn't in the mood to dicker with them.
I'm potentially getting an awesome deal on one I bought on eBay last weekend. Will let you know how it turns out. Thanks!
trixster8 05-24-2008, 04:50 AM Hello fellow 9ers,
My name is Rick, I'm from the suburbs of Chicago. I've joined a couple days ago, but I've been reading a lot of posts for a couple weeks now. At first I was indecisive about a 599 or a ZZR600. While doing my homework on both bikes, I came across this site and it definitely helped my decision. Well, when I went to the Honda dealer and saw the bike in person and sat on it, I was sold, didn't even go look at a ZZR. Plus, I like the naked look better, everyone and thier brother has a full fairing bike here in the burbs.
So I gotta say thanks for all your help and knowledge. I already have two orders in the mail, motavation sliders and a competition werkes fender eliminator kit.
Ride on brothers (and sisters).
hysteria 05-28-2008, 08:11 PM My name is Michael, I'm from the very northeast corner of Indiana. I started riding last year on a Suzuki S40. I decided this year it was time to move up.
I've always loved the naked look and had my heart set on an SV650, but happened across a 04 599 at a dealership with only 500 miles. I sat on it and loved it, did a little research (found this place) and was sold!
I have NO regrets about choosing this bike over the SV.
djamalt 05-28-2008, 08:43 PM :thumbsup NICE. Welcome to the forum, and don't be a stranger.
yeroC 05-29-2008, 05:21 PM :welcome hysteria!! And i don't think you'll get any arguments from
anyone here about your choice. 8)
LAG-Bolt 05-29-2008, 11:00 PM I'm Lindsay and I live in Vancouver, WA. I don't own a bike at this time (in negotiations with the head of household appropriations). I had a CB650 for a couple of years in the mid 80's. Then came marriage, kids, work and etc. At this time I'm breaking in my oldest daughters '08 Ninja 250, best of both worlds, she bought the bike and I get back into riding bikes. I'm looking to buy a bike of my own later this summer (you people are hard on a guy, getting to see all of the picture of your great bikes and cool mod's). Well just wanted to stop by and say "Hello"
cobra671 05-30-2008, 04:49 AM Welcome Lindsay! Well I guess we all know which bike you'll be getting for yourself now? Because you can't ride your daughters bike forever. Lol!
Enjoy the site.

markv 05-30-2008, 05:27 AM Hey Michael! Welcome. I took the same path, S40 to 599. Quite a change eh? Enjoy!
GravityKills 06-01-2008, 11:12 AM Hey all, Chad here from Dickinson, ND. I just purchased my '06 599 from a dealer as a HOLDOVER being used as a demo bike by the dealer owner's wife with only 500 miles on it. I traded my '07 R6 on it (for those of you asking WHY?, I explain it like this: performance made me happy, ergonomics made my chiropractor happy). I'm loving the bike so far, and working on getting the 'necessary' upgrades for it. See ya'll 'round.
trixster8 06-01-2008, 01:42 PM Welcome Chad. I here you on the upgrades, but I must warn you that they are addicting. I've only had my bike for three weeks, and I already have three upgrades with another on its way. Isn't customizing fun. Well, glad you joined.
djamalt 06-01-2008, 08:47 PM Gravit... er um, Chad. I gotta agree with Trix's comment on mod addictions. I'm sure you did a few on your last bike, but they seem to be sooo much easier to get addicted to with the Hornet. Anyway, welcome, and I hope you enjoy the bike and this site. Actually, I know you will!!! And your chiropractor bill, I can definitely relate. It was a huge factor in my going with the Hornet.
GravityKills 06-01-2008, 11:49 PM Um, yeah, about those mods... already have the K&N installed, have a jetkit and Micron exhaust on the way...
yeroC 06-02-2008, 05:38 AM Welcome!!
Chad, you and Alltell have left us no choice.....WIZARD!!!
