I've been meaning to ask... how do you like those mirrors? Do they work well?

Yeah, yeah! How're those mirrors?!
With the stock mirrors, I get a nice view of my elbows... not exactly what I'm looking for, you know?

I have those same mirrors and they are perfect. They actually let you see what's behind you instead of showing you your shoulders. They don't vibrate like you'd think and everything is clear. But they are kind of small so you won't be picking out a cop car a hundred yards back or anything. You do have to move your head more to see what's around you but that's not such a bad thing since when you check them for a lane change you will see a car in your blind spot from your peripheral vision. I feel they are super safe and look 100x better than the stock Mickey Mouse mirrors. They aren't cheap for the good ones. Some aren't even glass!

with the crg mirrors, i have to dip my head just a little to see behind me but it's not like i have to lean to the left or the right... i like them a lot.

You guys mind putting up a thread about these mirrors in the Accessories section? Brands, prices, links... Thanks. :thumbsup

I would but mine came as a free addition from the dealer. I will ask when I go in for my 600 mile service.

I was riding a Ducati GT1000 the other day and it had CRG mirrors. I didn't like them. The view isn't obstructed but they are very small. That means everything you see in them is very small. You also have to avert your gaze much lower.

Many people love CRG mirrors and are willing to pay a premium for them so I'm not saying they are bad, they just arn't for everyone.

My solution will be some napoleon style handlebar mirrors. I just have to find a pair I like now.

I tried that and don't recommend you go through with it unless you're willing to spend lots of money to have them installed. Yes, they would look amazing on the 599, but installing them is a BITCH. I even took it to a shop... they installed one and it didn't hold well and would require constant tightening. I ended up saying "f'it" and returning those mirrors.

Thanks for the heads up Alex. What brand did you get ? I'll be sure to avoid those.

I browse the SV boards and a lot of them use those style of mirror. I guess some are better than others.

Or, I may just look for a good looking pair of standard mirrors. It's just that the OEM's are such good quality already, to top it I'd have to spend a lot of money.

I don't remember what brand they were, but here's the link:

Don't get me wrong, I don't think there's anything wrong with the mirrors, they look great, they are just a super mission to install.

J-nuine
10-16-2006, 02:50 PM
yeah it's a bitch... especailly if you have stock bars... actually the hard part to install is removing the bar weights... but that's it.

Alex

That's it?! Removing them was the biggest pain ever!

Thats a great looking bike...I have the flat blue...we didn't get the flat black in the UK for the 599...only the 900.

I have a question...how do you get the internals out of the bar to fit bar end mirrors on standard bars? I can see a clip but I just cant seem to get it out! Also, is there a danger that part of the internals will be lost inside?

Any advice much appreciated :D

I tried installing napoleon mirrors on my bike once. I took it to a few shops and everyone had trouble taking the old weights out. I don't know what Honda was thinking with that design.

Tyler. I have a great word doc. write up. PM me your email and I'll send it to you.

Basically you need to pull back or remove the grips and you'll see two holes. You poke something into those holes and the internals will slide out.

DarkTint
10-19-2006, 11:07 PM
Remove the grips to get the bar weights off??? Well, maybe with the 06, but with the 04 just unscrew the black weight on the end, spray some WD-40 inside the bar, grab the internals with vice-grips, get a friend to hold the other end of the bike so it doesn't get yanked onto its side, and pull like hell (a little twisting never hurt either!).

Inside the bar is a rod that's about 5" long with a thick rubber washer on each end that grips the inside of the bar. They're not called weights for nothing. It's surprising how heavy they are.

You're not likely to get an answer from the owner (or half the people in this thread) - it's more than 3 years old and unfortunately they no longer frequent the forum.

I don't know where he got the tail kit from, but you can look up "Ermax undertray" on google and see what it finds for you.

I believe Ermax stuff comes from the UK. You might find it at streetfightersbydesign.com, or contact them if it's not listed on their site.

You can just call David Cork, the importer and owner of streetfightersbydesign at (530)587-8521. He was very helpful and cut me a deal with the shipping.
