View Full Version : K&N Air Filters Alex 10-17-2006, 10:29 AM I heard that K&N Air Filters are good for the bike... IMO, they are a waste of 50 bucks. I had one on my EX500. This question has been posted on the 500 site and the SV650 site before and they all cam to the same conclusion. The K&N lets more dirt in, it's exensive, more time consuming to clean, and gives no power increase for most bikes. The OEM is cheap, easy, gets you back on the road quicker. As you'll read from that link, Honda airboxes are more fussy than most. Ok, now someone take the other stance and beat me over the head! :D antihero 10-17-2006, 10:56 AM I'm not going to completely disagree but I will say that putting a more free flowing air filter will actually be detrimental to your performance without a rejet. The bike already comes with a lean mixture and if you allow more air into it, your bike will take longer to warm up (stupid carberators), have a rougher idle, and possibly stall out more often. Alex 10-17-2006, 10:58 AM Wow! I'm glad I asked. Super Sneaky Steve 10-17-2006, 11:33 AM I'm not going to completely disagree but I will say that putting a more free flowing air filter will actually be detrimental to your performance without a rejet. On the street you would be alright but I would think you would have to rejet the carbs just my two cents!!!!!!!!!!   sephia 12-30-2006, 01:44 PM not sure about bikes but in cars and trucks the oil in the filter can hit sensors in the intake tract and foul them up! mechanic77 12-31-2006, 08:44 AM yeh if you over oil the filter the excess can get on the mass airflow sensor and affect its readings ..... I use a K/N and I think if you use it correctly keep it maintained properly you can benefit but to some it just isnt their cup of tea rndthought 12-31-2006, 03:59 PM ...excess can get on the mass airflow sensor No issue with the 599... Oil away! GETCH 01-04-2007, 10:30 PM Glad I read this before ordering a K&N. The RC51 link definitely helped too. Thanks Steve :thumbsup I'll just stick to the OEM filter. BTW Steve- the Victory mirrors looked great! | |
