Anyone up for a ride? I hear the Rock Store run in the mountains of Malibu is pretty sweet... and there's all these foothill canyons beggin for some buzz from the Hornets. And I know there has to be some good runs on the OC pavement...

We can start on an easier run. Mullholland did throw me into oncoming lanes a couple of times so I feel you. Seems like there a few OC riders in the Nest, maybe you guys know of a good run we can meet up to do behind the Orange Curtain???

Just remember to run them at YOUR pace, and they'll be fun, you'll get better at them, and you'll live longer.

I'm not the fastest out there and people will wait for me, no one seems to mind. If they did, they wouldn't ride with me.

I'm usually the route planner though since everyone else is too f'in lazy! Bastards! Plus I have all the mad maps and shit.

I'm still new to Cali, so I'm not sure what area that is. But if you think it might be LA county or OC, it's probably right on the border and probably a good half way point. Are you familiar with the roads around Glendora Mountain? If so, I'm down to swing out that way to meet for a little Hornet family reunion one weekend before the mountains get too cold to ride.

I should (I'm 99% sure) be getting laid off this December. Soooo...I'm thinking that I'm going to trailer the bike to TX, NM, AZ and CA and get some riding in come January.

My brother lives in San Diego (Poway to be specific) so I'll set up base there for a few days, then head north for a few days.

I'll post more when the date gets closer and hopefully I can hook up with some of you CA 599 riders when I get out there.

Later,

James

glendora - is north of the 210 freeway by the foothills... between the 605 and 57 if that helps any. it's near San Dimas, Irwindale, Azusa if that helps any...

I just looked it up on Google maps, looks like a fun little ride. How testy is it? I'm sure we are all of varying riding levels, although I don't think that'd be too much a problem since we are new to each other and would probably take it easy. Anyone know a good meeting point (at a nearby gas station perhaps)? I guess once we have all that down we can start trying to figure out when would be a good time and day.

I'm in the... hmm not exactly sure what to call it. I've been here for 3 years and seems like everyone has a different name for the part of LA I'm in. I'll say Mid-Wilshire meets South Fairfax District. Landmarks - La Brea Tar Pits, LACMA, Peterson Auto Musuem, Little Ethiopia.

we've got like 7 people in the LA, OC, Riverside area, It would be nice to meet up with everyone.

I think I'll send a little message to all the SoCal heads to see who is up for a ride. Seems like that Glendora run is kind of the most centrally located spot to hit. Unless you know of any others, I'll suggest that in the messages I send. Maybe even try a little group ride over the Turkey Day break???

I would be up for a ride over the break. I rode Glendora on Sat. and Sun. this past weekend.

Funny, I just got back from riding Glendora for the first time about an hour ago. It's nice to take a day off of work every now and then - LOL. Beautiful ride, nice fast wide turns, a lot of tight switchbacks, good road condition. It just felt like it took forever to get there and the wind on the freeway was brutal. But in all, DEFINATELY WORTH IT.

So sounds like the list is beginning, let's see how many chime in.

MLK Weekend is coming up (Jan 13, 14 & 15). Most companies observe this holiday, so that gives us Sothern Cali 599ers a nice 3 days to choose from for a 599 group ride up Glendora Mountain in Azusa (google map it - off of the 210 and Asuza Ave - click this link and scroll down to #6 if you've never ridden Glendora: www.lateralg.org/foothills.htm (http://www.lateralg.org/foothills.htm)). I figure we can meet at a gas station or Starbucks or something on Azusa Ave then shoot up the street to hit Glendora Mountain. Assuming we don't have any more red flag winds, and they have cleared the trees and rocks out of the way from this last wind storm, it will be a great time to go. Hell I went on Sat, and even with all those "obstacles" it was still fun. I'm sure if he'd had a 599, Dr King would have wanted us to do it. So, who is up for this?

yeah, i just rode Glendora today.... it was a total mess... full trees, boulders, gravel, the whole 9 yards. though, as we were leaving they did have a plow coming through,... so it may not be bad for MLK weekend. Unfortunetly (well, not really too unfortunate) i'm going on a 9 day vacation to tahoe for snowboarding, leaving the 12th, so i won't be around.

Hey, So Cal Riders - What say you to a run up to the Rock Store in the mountains of Malibu in the next two weekends or so (end of Mar beg of April)? Weekend weather is starting to look pretty tasty, let's get a jump on it.

Edit - Sat. Mar 24, 2007 - I went up to the Rock Store today - it was truly amazing. Anyone... anyone... LOL

I've been to the Rock Store a couple of times, on the back of a bike that is. My uncle goes there like 5 days a week and hangs with the locals. give me some more time under my belt and i'll be there.

Where or what is Zorbas? And the Rock Store will (God willing) always be here. When you'r eready let me know. I'm always down to go. Although I'm now hooked on Angeles Crest. That run is... is... I have no words.

Zorba's is a burger place in Riverside that has a large following (so I've read) to a Tuesday night bike night. There are also a place in City of Industry called Frisco's which I guess is similar.

I'm in San Diego but with a bit of notice I would be up for a ride in the Riverside and Orange County area. Anything I can get to from the 5 or 15! :D Or if you're interested, I can lead some great rides down here in San Diego county! There are some lovely routes that I could start in the Temecula-Fallbrook area.

I read in other threads that some of the newer riders had some uncomfortable experiences with aggressive assholes. I'm an experienced rider (20 years), and I've had a lot of experience riding in groups and working with newer riders (I ride with the Women in the Wind down here, and we love to help n00bies), so I can fit in with anyone who cares about safe riding.

Once these freaky winds out here die down (probably another week or two), I'd be up for a little journey behind the Orange Curtain. Anyone else in southern Cali want to get in on this?

Um, my ride would be south of OC, in San Diego County. I can suggest a place to meet in, say, Temecula -- I know the roads south of there but I'm not very familiar yet with anything north, other than the Ortega Highway (which is no great shakes IMHO.)

Oh my, can it be... Well, first off :welcome Next. How long have you been riding? If you are seasoned and feel like making a trek, I'm sure a few of us... hint hint... would be willing to link up for a group ride, perhaps Glendora... wait now that I think about it, Glendora might be ready to start getting snow and ice especailly with the rain/snow this week up in the mountains. Maybe you could come out to Malibu??? Or we could ride the OC??? Let's see who else responds to the post and see what happens from there.

I'm pretty much down to ride wherever, the warmer the better though, i dont have a whole lot of cold weather riding gear...i'd put myself at the intermediate side when it comes to skill level, dont have a whole lot of experience when it comes to twisties, being from the great plains theyre hard to find at times... all the good hills and twisties are a good couple hours away from my home town, i just like getting out and getting some seat time you know, i'm usually off work thurs-sat though so any of those days work for me, we'll see who is down to join in and go from there, take it easy

I've never ridden Lake Elsinore nor Temecula, but they look good on paper. Unfortunately, because of craziness at the job, I won't be riding until just after Xmas time - weekend of the 28th. If the ride is planned around then or later (and not the weekend of Jan 4th) I'd be down to ride. Maybe some of the OC riders will jump on this one..?
