Part 1

Part2

All you need is:

Two open ended wrenches.

Two fingers.

Cable Lube.

Cable Luber Thingy.

Here is a picture I made to show you how the luber thingy goes onto the cable.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y123/ex500/SSS/cablediagram.jpg

Now just like the picture shows you want the luber thingy all the way down and snug to the black part. If you don't you'll get lube flying everywhere.

The cable is just like on your pedal bike.

I didn't go all the way because I was lazy and didn't think I needed to. But if someone really wants me too I can do it all. Or you can just ask me some questions.

This is a really easy job and you can't mess it up. Just be sure to check the nuts again later to be sure they didn't loosen up.

Anyway, here are some pictures of my 500 that may be more clear.

#1 shows the nuts you need to loosen. You don't need to touch #2 unless you want to take the cable compleatly off.

Here you can see how I have the slots lined up and you can see the metal wire with the ball on the end. You can either twist the knobs all the way in and try to fish out the ball with a screwdriver or you can back the knobs all the way off and it's easy to just pull it off.
#3 points to the knobs and #4 points to the ball.

As requested I made a new video where I actually do it.

You need to make a Part 3 video where you show how to get the cable back in.

I cannot for the life of me get the ball back into it's happy place; it seems like the cable is just too damn short.

Any suggestions?

Make as much slack as possible on both ends, then put the ball in the hole first. You should have just enough room to then thread the thingie in.

how often should the cable be lubed?

It's kind of a pain in the butt so I do it once or twice a season.

I'll replace it around 20k miles because I don't want to wait till it fails on the road. It really sucks riding home without a clutch.

If you were really prepared you could keep an extra cable stashed under the seat.

Sold everywhere cable lube is sold. For me, the local bike shop. Sometimes it comes with the can of lube.

My suggestion is to use Lithium Grease to lube your cable in lieu of cable lube. I felt the cable lube that is packaged with the cable lube tool was inadequate. Lithium grease is waterproof, excellent for metal to metal contact, anti corrosive and has a good temperature tolerance. It is used mainly in boating to keep mechanical friction points free of corrosion.

I got mine on Amazon. Same exact package though.

Makes one hell of a mess, for sure. Next time I am going to basically throw a towel over the lube block before I start spraying. Got that shit all over my mirrors, tank, grips and bars... you name it.

Hello from sunny Bulgaria ;)
I have just lubed my clutch cable using a syringe and needle from the pharmacy.Filled it with the old 10w60 engine oil from the last oil change.I tilted the bike as much as I can to the right so that the oil goes down the cable and not out on my brand new jeans like it did at start :)Squirted till i see oil on the other end, where i have put some rags.It got a little messy, but cleaned it with meglio and water.I also oiled the spring at the other end of the clutch cable and the lever itself. The result - no more spooky sounds from the clutch and it goes all the way back when i release it, which was not happening all the time before the oiling. It is easier if you loose the cable from the adjuster but you are gonna have to adjust it later again(quite easy tbh).Dont forget to leave the slit of the adjuster downwards so that rain does not enter your nice and shiny just oiled cable.
Enjoy!

Steve, you should really think about writing for porn shoots. Maybe Im just over tired but I took a few minutes to jot down my most favorite line out of the clutch lube #2 video....

“that’s going to give me room for my tool to get in there”

“a very small hole and you’ve got a big hole”

“I forewarn you this is a very messy process, so don’t wear any nice jeans or
anything you don’t mind getting lube on it”

“make sure you get it set in there, Im going to slide it flush”

“right here you can see there is a little hole, that’s where Im going to put my tube in”

“Im going to stick it in the hole and start squirting”

“I have the rag, im going to wait till I start to see some oozing coming out of there, when that happens I know Im done”

“Im just going to stick this in here, and just kinda put my hand over it, because its going to squirt, you’ll probably want to wear safety glasses, im not, but you should…. And start squirtin”

“its going to come out the top, its going to come out everywhere”

“yuck…. Its making a mess in my hand”

“So final shot, a shot on my shirt”

lol.....
