Be sure your bike is level. Either with a swing arm stand or have a buddy sit on the bike as you work. I highly recommend a stand though.

This should be done every two years.

SSS,

Thanks so much for that video. I can do that! No problem. I hinestly do not know if my coolent is good or bad, it looks brown, and the bike was a 2004 purchased in 2006. I just want to change it to make sure. I'll check out Murrays .
thanks again.

Wow...you got your own section! Congrats.

Evidently our plan for 919's to take over this forum is going nicely... 8)

Thanks Steve, you just helped me change my coolant today seeing as how my bike is a 2004 model. Anyway, thanks for the help Steve...

Hey steve got a question on the drain plug/bolt to the coolant, does it have a washer/o-ring on the bolt and does that needs replacing when your flushing coolant right? Im thinking of flushing coolant on my bike this weekend and was curious? I dont want to get half way thru it only to not be able to finish cause of a washer or plug...y'know....

Thanks Steve, give me a reason to drop more coin on a Depretto moto coolant hose. I wish they had the third small piece that runs under the back of the engine instead of just the two big hoses.

I don't remember there being an O-ring, but if there is one you can reuse it.

No O-ring on the 06. But be VERY careful putting that bolt back it. It strips very easily and you'll have to re-thread the casing if you jack it up. So just "be gentle."

.....my hornet is a 04, but regardless thanks for the info guys...:thumbsup

NOTE: It was a (copper/brass) washer for those wondering, now the hornets nice and clean again.

Off topic....but is there a video on draining carbs?

Unfortunately I don't have a bike with carbs anymore. But there's a screw under the floatbowl that you could unscrew.

The '04 manual says replace the sealing washer at the drain bolt with a new washer when replacing coolant - but I want to do it today and I don't have a new washer. Who thinks it will be okay to go ahead and reuse the old washer?

I don't really want to slowly leak my coolant all over the place though.

Given the warnings about stripping the bolt, and the fact that you might not revisit this for two years, I think I'd get a new washer.
