I'm hoping to do some track day's in the spring. My only concern so far is that some tracks require a non-polyethyleneglycol coolant to be used on the track for racing and track days in case you crash and slime the track. Does anybody know anything about this stuff. I can't see leaving it in for street use. Boil protection? Freeze protection? Corrosion protection?

Hay that is good news, I really thing you'll get a lot out of it.
As for the coolant...ahhhh yeah I changed it sir.... If you really wanna be a good citizen then just put distilled water in for that/thoes days but remember to put the regular stuff back in, ASAP. I've heard of something called Water Wetter but know nothing of it.
Just keep in mind, you are doing practice laps not racing....
Where ya going?

Yup, water + water wetter will do it.
You'll have to do a few more things. Like take off your kick stand, tape off your headlight and safety wire some of the bolts.
It's a real PITA to go back and forth IMO. That's why many people buy another cheap-o bike just for track use. I really don't want to abuse my daily driver that much at the track. Not to mention the damage when you crash.

Wow, PITA indeed. Places I've been haven't been that bad. Had to minimum pull a couple fuses (kill brake/turn/head lights), tape over glass, remove plate, "replace" coolant, tape over wheel weights and remove mirrors plus bike had to be trailered to the track (in case you wreck). Other than that the rest was up to you. But we weren't racing...just doing "practice" laps.
Check with the track and they should have a list of "mandatory" and a list of "suggested". Some things you may want to do just because if you go down…like remove turn signals (if it isn’t mandatory)…

Thanks tons for the info. Yep, royal PITA, but it sounds like the Zerex may be the way to go. I work with cars and generally cringe when it comes to using non-factory stuff. Boring, I know, but the results are predictable. My 599 is in the Chicago area and planning to go to both Blackhawk Farms Raceway outside of Rockford and Autobahn Country Club in Joliet. My intention in to work on my riding skills without pushing so hard to throw down the bike if I can avoid it. "Really, honey. It's not about fun. It will make me a safer rider."
It seems to depend on who's running the track day, but in the novice category they generally require taping or removal of all the glass/plastic parts, but no safety wiring, etc. Friends have been to Sportbike Tracktime events and have very much liked the coaching they provide the novices. I'm going to give it a shot as soon as I can in the spring. Too many family activities this fall. I couldn't squeeze it in last month. This is going to be one looooong winter.
