Since daylight saving time went away, I've been noticing the bike commuters in the dark. Of course, I notice them. I'm looking for nice bikes and good gear. I have realized that most riders and sport bikes aren't very visible. As a result, I ordered a reflective harness and a helmet halo. I may look like a crossing guard, but that harness fits it my pocket and really sticks out against the black jacket.

Please take a look at YOUR kit in the dark and see if you stick out to the cell phone using drivers during rush hour...me included.

mind posting a link to where you bought the stuff?

my wife and I went to dinner tonight, and of course I wanted to ride my bike to the restaraunt so my wife was tailing me in her cage. when we got back home she said "you need something reflective, i could hardly see you."

I'm thinking I'm going to get some yellow reflective rim strips, and something to put on the sides of my gas tank.

I need something for my helmet and jacket. I hate to put something on my helmet that detracts from it during the day...my helmet is such a pretty Pedrosa replica...

For some rim stripes.

The first thing I do when I get a bike is remove the reflectors and brackets. But I don't recommend it :D

I want to die looking good.

good thread PL, i've been meaning to get these items myself.

i'm going for the HALO and a REFLECTIVE VEST type.

my riding gear consist of, all black leathers, jacket and pants.

can you give a review of the HALO? i've heard that on some helmets it falls off and just hangs around the neck. if that is the case i'll be looking for something else.

In WI you can get two types of retroflective stickers (for free!): one is hi-vis orange and is a "do not remove helmet...." etc. the other is hi-vis yellow and says "Motorcycles Have Equal Rights." A share the road deal. I have a hi-vis orange on each side of my helmet and the yellow one right on the back. They light up nicely at night.

All my gear has retroflective bits to it as well.

The Olympia AST jacket comes in hi-vis yellow with lots of retroflective bits and you can get just about any Aerostich product in hi-vis colors.

Same situation happened here. I went out and got the HALO and a reflective vest. I'm not sure how effective these things really are, but something is better than nothing.

I wonder if you can buy reflective tape at CycleGear or the like.

Yup. Actually though look for something that's retroflective. Lights up real nice at night when light hits it, even minimal light. I would guess most reflective tape is actually retroflective these days.

Funny, I was actually looking to buy some retroreflective material to sew into the back of my jacket. I have a little bit of piping that lights up when headlights hit it, but not much.

Someone once told me about this thing:

Not really my speed, but i do have a modulator that is supposed to flash the brake lights for a few seconds then stay on when I'm stopping. Haven't installed it yet. Actually I forgot I even had it. When I get the new udertail (whenever that may be) I'll probably look into installing it. Here are a couple of links to those modulators

I've seen some out there at night and they really do grab your attention... but then again I'm always on the look out for bikes.

Ok, so I call up tapeworks and place an order. The guy says, "well since we're both in NC, I have to charge you sales tax." We get to talking, and it turns out tapeworks is like 40 minutes from my house. How weird is that? So I'm just gonna ride up there to Raleigh, NC (where tapeworks is located) tommorrow or Friday when I go to pick up my Sidi boots from Cyclegear (also in Raleigh). That way, I can see all the different colors of yellow and stuff in person.

Anyway...just thought it was really weird that these guys are only 40 minutes from me.

Hey Moto, did you check out that tape? And if so what did you think? I ended up swinging by Home Depot and picking up a refelctive construction worker's vest for like 8 bucks. Florescent green. Ugly little bastard, but lights me up like a damn Christmas tree when I'm riding at night now and fits under the seat for storage. And somehow, I think the cops kind of ignore me - I'm guessing they think no one lame enough to wear this ugly ass vest could possibly be pushing past 100 down a lonely road at night... not that I have... 'cause that would just be foolish... or something.

:thinking You just may be on to something there... Know when I switched from a bright yellow slightly upgraded 240Z to a 91' Gold Volvo 945 Turbo (WAGON) - I drove faster (it could) and got less tickets... Hummmmm.... Make profiling work FOR you...Hummmm

I'm thinking about getting this tail flasher
Comagination's brakelight flasher (http://www.comagination.com/bflasher.htm).

My gear is all black like I'm suiting up to fly Firefox. Good tip un the home depo vest. I'll pick one up on my way home today.

Recently found out that the ugly vest fits over me, my jacket and my laptop loaded down backpack! Looks kinda stupid, but at least those cagers can see me in the dark.

I didn't get the tape the next day like I had planned due to something coming up at work.

However, I went to Tapeworks TODAY and they cut me a roll. They have several shades of reflective yellow. I picked up just the right shade to match out yellow hornets. The tape is actually made to match the 04 yellow Honda F4I...but it matches the hornet perfectly.

I had them cut it 3/16" wide. It's not to wide, but it's not to narrow. It's just perfect in my opinion.

The weather sucks here right now, so it will be later this week before I can put it on. But, I did go by today and pick it up. The guys are really nice there. Super great to deal with.

I'll post pics and opinions when I get it put on.

timbuk2 makes some messenger bags that have a reflective stripe that goes all the way around the bag. I bought one and it's nice. I found it on amazon.
