Are all motorcycle leathers waterproof? I know that leather by itself doesn't like to get wet but you can treat leather (http://www.aquaseal.com/leather-waterproofing.html) to be waterproof. Second part of my question is if it comes waterproof do you ever need to recondition it after it's been ridden in the wet a lot?

Don't know about the water proof part...don't think leathers are really meant for wet riding, that's what rain suits are for. But for sure you should be putting some sort of leather conditioner on a couple times a year (which also provides a bit of water protection I, guess) to keep it clean and soft/supple. Any leather store or good shoe place carries things for this and a quick Google of "leather care conditioner" gives many options.

I've never had water seep through my leathers, if that's what you're asking. Or are you asking if water will damage your leathers? In that case mine have held up just fine. Water is pretty much a non issue.

Now i've been caught in a downpour in my mesh jacket before. I might as well have jumped in a pool.

If it rains a lot it's best to hide out for a little bit anyway. Gas stations are usually good places.

Yeah, I pretty much meant is it going to weaken them and cause them to tear or wear more quickly. I know they are pretty much water-tight.

Yes leather needs to be condition to be water proof. Well water proof might not be that accurate, water can still seep thru. The leather treatment stuff is what is usually water proof cause many of that stuff is made of wax/oils.

If the leather is in wet conditions more often then none then they need to be condition more often as well.

As for leather care product use Lexol brand cleaner and conditioner they are one of the best leather care products out and you can get them at a hardware store or auto parts store as well. One thing to note about leather care is try to stick to one type of leather care product cause mixing (many won't mix well with each other) different types/brands will make the leather all funky.

regarding this statment, i don't know how much of this stuff is true.

got this from another forum. can anybody confirm, either way on this.

"They look fine, feel fine, fit fine, etc, but you would not believe how much abrasion and tear resistance leather loses with each soaking. Something like 20% (I read that in a scientific paper somewhere, if I have to, I'll google it until I find it). So after the first soaking, leather has 80% of it's original strength. Second soaking, 64% of original. Third soaking, 51%. Etc, etc.

Or so I've read..." (quote from a poster on another forum)

That's a frightening thought, I wonder if there's some proof of that online.
