View Full Version : Working on a Holiday Super Sneaky Steve 11-13-2006, 08:22 AM Anyone else working today? I'm one of four people in the office today. What a perfect blow off day! Still sucks to be here though. :? jmd 11-13-2006, 08:30 AM I know this is a stuid question...but what holiday is it again? And yes, i still have classes today. (I'm in an internship and we take 3hrs worth of training classes every week day...) antihero 11-13-2006, 08:31 AM Most people I know had Friday off for Veteran's day if that's what you're referring to. I spent the entire day working on my Suzuki bike. jmd 11-13-2006, 08:33 AM Ah. Yes, i knew the banks were closed on Saturday for some holiday or another... Working on your Suzuki? Too bad it's not a Honda...you could have had the day off!!! antihero 11-13-2006, 08:35 AM Working on your Suzuki? Too bad it's not a Honda...you could have had the day off!!! haha. It's an older bike and it needs some TLC but I love it. My only regret was working on putting the new undertray on the 599 Saturday which was the nicest day to ride we've had in a long time. Super Sneaky Steve 11-13-2006, 08:44 AM What kind of Suzuki are you working on? antihero 11-13-2006, 08:46 AM It's a '99 GS500E with 14k miles on it. It's seen better days but it's a great beginner bike that I'm trying to fix up for my gf to learn on. After that my buddy plans to buy it from me for his gf to learn on. It just needed some gaskets replaced there were leaking oil. Nothing major. Super Sneaky Steve 11-13-2006, 08:53 AM I really miss my EX500. I also plan my next bike to be an EX250 that I'm going to turn into a naked Cafe. I should have kept my 500. I modded everything there was to mod. A great learning experiance. I hope my next little bike will teach me a lot more. I plan on learning to weld to make things like the headlight bracket and such. antihero 11-13-2006, 09:26 AM Yeah, this bike has been the best investment because not only did it teach me to ride but I'm learning all kinds of stuff about working on bikes from it. Nobody in my family is a real gearhead so I have no mentors. I'm 27 and just learned how to change my own oil a year ago so I've come a long way. It's my new favorite past time. I have a great sense of accomplishment when I've completed a job on the bike. Super Sneaky Steve 11-13-2006, 09:34 AM One of the best experiances I've had was taking auto class in high school. We got to take appart a Brigs & Stratton motor then rebuild it. If it didn't start by the end of the class you would fail. Lucky for me mine fired up. I got to learn lots of little tips like how to set the magnito gap with a piece of cardboard and how to make a ghetto gasket out of a paper folder (doesn't last long). When I get my 250 I want to totally strip the motor. I want to take out the pistons, rings, vavles, everything. I'll clean it up then put it all back together. The expensive part will be getting all the tools. I don't want to do all that to my Hornet just yet. It's too nice and new. antihero 11-13-2006, 10:16 AM Yeah, that sounds like a great way to get your hands dirty. I would love to do that to this bike but before I took her apart I let my gf ride it in a parking lot and now she's got the itch so shes riding my ass to get it back to gether and ready to get out there. Super Sneaky Steve 12-20-2006, 07:53 AM Who is working between Christmas and New Years? I'm working the 27th - 29th. No one is going to be here but me. The lowly contractors don't get very many hollidays. I figure I can bring in a pillow and take a nap in my cube. But for the rest of the day you guys have to log on at home to keep me company. .........and don't gloat about how awsome it is to sleep in and eat cookies all day! rndthought 12-20-2006, 08:17 AM Get Mon/Tue off but that's it. Hay, you should set up a series of meetings next week... :D eligonis 12-20-2006, 02:01 PM I only get Monday off! French company..... I'll be taking Friday off though, girlfriend is having ACL Surgery and i get to take her in at 5:30 am. cesu pro 12-20-2006, 02:49 PM only monday off here too,.... effin a tyler d 12-20-2006, 03:14 PM I'm working Wednesday to Friday :( Not fair but at least I'll get a lot done as the rest of the offices will be dead. drew 12-20-2006, 07:39 PM I'm off all of next week and monday for new years. Sounds sweet, but I just had hernia sugery, so I can't lift anything heavy still. Guess I'll have to be carefull working on the bikes, don't wanna pop a stitch or something :x vthoky 12-21-2006, 05:21 PM Worked the Friday and Sunday immediately following Thanksgiving... does that count? Sunday was nice -- 60K square feet, and I'm the only guy there. Stream some audio, turn it up, and get things accomplished. Super Sneaky Steve 11-16-2007, 07:29 AM I came in late, brought my PSP and I'm bored as hell! This sucks. :x That is all. tx_metabaron 11-16-2007, 08:27 AM I only get Monday off! French company..... Aww,cm'on,you have 35 hrs week don't you  Otherwise, get on strike like the French are doing right now.No need for real reasons. I'd venture to say you work at AL,Schlum or Technip(not many French companies in Houston) Alex 11-16-2007, 10:43 AM I get the entire last week of the year off - with no pay! It's a mandatory time off at HP. In a way, it's nice to have that time off, but missing a quarter of your monthly paycheck is not that great. tx_metabaron 11-16-2007, 01:10 PM I get the entire last week of the year off - with no pay! It's a mandatory time off at HP. In a way, it's nice to have that time off, but missing a quarter of your monthly paycheck is not that great. That's what bugs me when I go back to Europe(France) and everyone I know complain they can hardly take their 8 weeks of paid vacation. JHenley17 11-16-2007, 07:36 PM My drilling company sucked... I was going to have to work 12 hours on Christmas day, then drive home for 5 hours (it landed on the day I'd get off) with no holiday pay, no bonus, no nothing. I was going to be gone for Thanksgiving, too, with nothing extra. Glad I got laid off, except I've got no money any more... Now, I sell shoes at Skechers. They want to open the store at midnight after Thanksgiving day and I'm hoping they don't schedule me for it... part-time, so of course, no paid vacation. Store will be closed, so no holiday pay. robkb 11-17-2007, 12:15 PM As a teacher, I get all the holidays with all the pay... if you call what little I bring home pay. But, it's not about the money. It's about having more days to ride the 599. Except my mom wants me to take a big folding table to my brother's for Thanksgiving. Awwwww! But, Mom! I wanted to ride my motorcycle! :crybaby Super Sneaky Steve 11-19-2007, 05:25 AM http://www.honda599.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2015 If some guy can cary two large pizzas and a fat guy a card table doesn't sound too hard. Super Sneaky Steve 03-21-2008, 08:59 AM I'm here........alone. Only one in the office. This sucks. I think I'll go get some Wendys. Alex 03-21-2008, 11:13 AM You're not alone, Steve, you have us. :grouphug  599001 03-21-2008, 03:44 PM mmm...Baconator vthoky 03-22-2008, 09:50 AM My friend's wife is a Fed of some (non-LE) sort -- she gets all sorts of holidays, and a darned sweet work schedule to begin with. Yesterday was our revenge -- we got the day off and she had to work! Super Sneaky Steve 12-26-2008, 06:45 AM Time to dust off this old thread. Today I came prepared! I have Mario & Luigi SuperSaga on my game boy micro. Boss is in and across the hall so I have to be careful. I hope my next thread isn't "I got fired for playing GameBoy at work" Mitch 12-26-2008, 09:04 AM I worked from 8am to 5pm on Xmas eve, and today I will probably go in from 10 to 5 as well. The only difference for me is that it's not mandatory that I do this. I don't get paid extra, but I'm still expected to work on these days. I do get to graduate on time which is nice. The culture of academic chemistry sucks. Super Sneaky Steve 04-10-2009, 05:54 AM I totally wanted today off, but I got stuck with some stupid project. :( InvaderZimm 04-10-2009, 12:55 PM I'm at work now too, and tomorrow, and monday....*sob* inthesky 04-10-2009, 01:07 PM I'm at work, will be here till 10. Will be here tmr, sun, and mon... I'm in Fort Liard... auditor... sodaking663rd 04-10-2009, 04:01 PM i look forward to these working holidays - most people take off so it's like a free day to come to work and bs or get caught up with projects...normally bs though :) DH919 04-12-2009, 02:56 PM So I'm at work, and it's easter sunday. I work for a bank, albeit in a call center. We're still working easter sunday. I've been doing this for quite a while now and I would think that by now people would realize that sunday is not a business day. I'm about sick of teling people "No you're deposit is not going to clear tonight. Yawn. clicketysplit 12-30-2009, 09:40 AM Our marketing group decided January 4 would be a good time to release two new versions and one point release for our software products. Which means, we've been working pretty much straight through. Not bored, but stressed. JBarx 12-30-2009, 11:25 AM +1. Yawn. I've been off all week... but busy and spending money at an alarming rate. Anyone know how hard it is to upgrade a ceiling fan? Never done it, but I can't imagine it's brain surgery. GuyD 12-30-2009, 01:05 PM Off tomorrow, New Year's Eve and the last day of the year obviously. I may take my son sleigh riding if he wants to brave the cold, which he usually doesn't. His quote "I like to stay inside and nice and warm daddy." OK by me, I'm going to veg, smoke a bit and look forward to that nice bottle of sangiovese red wine I procurred for the New Year's Eve surf and turf meal. I went over the $10 a bottle mark which is something I usually don't have to do to get decent wine in my little shop. But I'm getting a full bottle of Capt. Morgan's as a reserve. clicketysplit 12-30-2009, 01:40 PM look forward to that nice bottle of sangiovese red wine I procurred for the New Year's Eve surf and turf meal. I went over the $10 a bottle mark which is something I usually don't have to do to get decent wine in my little shop. But I'm getting a full bottle of Capt. Morgan's as a reserve. Sounds like an awesome plan. I usually try to stick to the $10-$15 range for my 'daily bottle' -- and it seems like it's getting easier to do. There's a huge glut of Australian reds right now, so it appears they're dropping their prices considerably. That is if you like those massive reds. I've actually been drinking American wines quite a lot this winter. Really liking Pepperwood Grove's old vine zin, and Wente's "Southern Hills" cab is pretty good VFM. Wente's Wetmore cab is good too -- but it's over $20 a bottle here. Of course, then we go to my folks and my dad hauls out some '98 Chateauneuf that he brought back from Avignon last summer, and I realize that most of what I drink is essentially vinegar. And yeah, I drink a hell of a lot of wine in the winter. Nothing else to do.... except hockey I suppose. Buzz 12-30-2009, 02:11 PM Anyone know how hard it is to upgrade a ceiling fan? Never done it, but I can't imagine it's brain surgery. I've done it a couple times, and it's not too bad - especially if there was a fan there already. If there wasn't a fan, then you need to make sure that your j-box is ready to support the weight of the fan. I also recomend getting a fan with a remote - eliminates any wire runs (because noone like the runs!) Sounds like an awesome plan. Don't drink anything that comes in a plastic 1 gallon jug with only the words "Red Wine" on the label. (unless of course you've made it yourself). GuyD 12-30-2009, 03:00 PM Back when my wife and I used to travel we ended up in Paris for a few days and were eating and drinking to our hearts content which in Paris is quite easy to do. So I splurge on some type of Chateau Rothschild wine, it was an expensive bottle but we were on holiday and really enjoying ourselves so it was a fun thing to do. Well, it was the best damn bottle of wine I've ever drank and the atmosphere only had a little to do with the glow we were feeling. I was going to save the empty bottle and bring it home but we left it out in the hotel room and the maid threw it away. She really thought we were weird when I asked what happened to bottle, gave me one of those "American peasant" looks which I usually find amusing. Those was right before 9/11, things seemed a lot lighter in some ways then although I was still consumed with things that I've kind of let go by the wayside at this point. But I'm lookin' forward to my New Year's this year which is saying something. clicketysplit 12-30-2009, 03:07 PM I've asked to keep expensive bottles from restaurants, and get the same look from the waiters as I expect you got from the maid! Hahaha... Frig, if I'm paying $200+ for something I'm going to drink in an hour, you better believe I'm keeping the damn bottle! Super Sneaky Steve 12-31-2009, 05:07 AM I got the game boy with me today. Anyone think I can beat Metroid in 8 hours? joeyvdb 12-31-2009, 07:16 AM Game boy to work... why didn't I think of that? I should have brought my DS today. Too bad my cubie faces the employee entrance so everyone can see what I am doing when they walk in the door. Worst cubicle ever!!!!
