One thing I didn't mention. Before you take the old pads out, put your screw driver in there and wedge them appart. This will push the pistons back. You need to do this because your new pads are thicker than the old ones.

Also, when you're done, you'll have to pump the pistons back up. To do this all you need to do is pump the leaver a few times till you get the feel back.

I appologise for the poor lighting, but that's what I had when I got off work. I was trying to get this done soon for motogpfan.

Hey Steve, the Honda shop told me to take off the brake cylinder cap before pushing the brake pads apart to make room for the new, thicker ones. You didn't mention this, so is it not a big deal?

My guess is doing that allows the brake fluid to expand back up into the reservoir when you force the pistons back. If you're not fully topped off, I don't see that it matters much. That's just my take on it, though.

It's done just like the front. Unless you're talking about an older bike with drums.

well, if you are topped off, then take the cap off the master cylinder, and use a syringe to suck out excess brake fluid before forcing pistons back into the caliper.

Do you need to take off the caliper in order to inspect the pads? I've never been able to get a good view with everything installed.

So I replaced my brake pads yesterday with new Brembo pads from PJ's Parts. They went in just fine, and after pumping the brake handle a few times, they tightened right up. The only problem now is that both the rear and front tires won't spin very well. I thought it might have had something to do with this red material on the pad which I assumed was there to protect it during shipment. I thought it needed a quick ride to rub off before you got to the actual pad, so I set off and I stalled the bike because it was gripping so much!

I've removed the cap on the reservoir to release any excess pressure, but it's still awfully tight. I shouldn't pump the brakes with the cap off, right? Any help of recommendations?

Unless your calipers are screwed up, just ride the bike and it should wear down enough..

Your videos are all excellent. I've used a few of them to help with handle bar-end weight removals, to help decide which rear bike stand to get, and other general how-tos.

What gets me is all the hating on you-tube you get for posting these resources. I've read some of the comments and there are some supreme assholes out there.
