I've been thinking about changing out the round headlight for something a little more...modern/sporty/aggressive looking. Don't get me wrong, i like the classic round light, but i've found that my least favorite view of the bike is from the front. So i was wondering if any of you had any preferences for different front fairings and what they look like.

I've seen a pretty cool one that reminded me of the FZ1, but don't remember where to find it...

The cold has set in and now jmd is going to ponder changes to make to the bike all winter...

You've got me, anti. Come spring i probably won't even be able to recognize my bike...

But that's ok...keeps me out of trouble.

Here's lots of options and you can look at the bikes at the bottom to get an idea of what you want.

Most of the fancy aftermarket ones do a crap job of lighting the road. There are some good dual set up's that might work better. I've seen people have success with Buell lights.

Yeah...the B4 fairing is the one i had seen before. I like it. But i don't know if i like it enough to spend $560+shipping+painting. No...don't think i like it that much...

if it aint naked....

i think of naked as being able to see the engine...not the headlight.

Just for a quick fyi, my favorite bike (besides my current 919) was a blue '83 Honda VF750F. They are mostly naked, but have a bikini fairing and front fairing that covers the headlight and lower radiator but keeps the rest of the engine open. That came to be my favorite look (if done right). I like it better than everything naked or everything covered in plastic.

Just for a visual, here's my previous bike...i miss her so...

That's a great looking bike. Notice how the short exhaust are now back in fashion.

That's a great looking bike.

Thanks, Steve. If i coulda found her ida bought her back again. Heck of a lot of bike for $1600. Plus she's the reason i got used to something with a bit more midrange grunt than most 600cc bikes have. That V4 engine is legendary.

Notice how the short exhaust are now back in fashion.

I hadn't thought about that. It does remind me of the 2007 CB600 exhaust more than anything else, though. That *is* funny.

The bike almost looks like an early ancestor of the CB900 than the VFR, imo. (But then again it doesn't look 24 year old, either.) I wasn't even thinking of that when i bought the 919...kinda cool to think about, though. It'd be fun to find a pic of a '06 VFR and 919 and put them beside the VF750. I can even see how the tank lines on the 750 could be an early form of the one on the 919... 8)

I think that page is wrong because according to the actual manufacturer's website it fits the 03-04 Hornet 600.

Reviving an oldie here. Hey Creakinbones...you have the 1/2 fairings version. How does it compare to fully naked from the standpoint of wind protection/hwy comfort?

Anyone else have any experience with 1/2 fairings?

i had a cbf600s prior to the hornet
http://foto.scigacz.pl/cache/imgs/_w750/gallery/moto/honda/cbf600sa.jpg

to be honest there was little difference

actually i prefer the hornet. As im a tall guy 1.90 i found that the screen on the CBF deflected all the air straight onto my helmet

on the Hornet the air gets evenly spread across my body.

i also didnt notice much difference in weather protection.

the only thing i could say was better is to be able to go above 100mph (on a german autoban  ) as i could hide behind the screen, but after so long on the Hornet im used to that aswell

in short i dont think its worth it, especially if you are tall(ish)

I've not ridden a naked Hornet Vin but I can tell you what the half-faired is like. The big difference is felt really in the winter, when I think I'd end up pretty cold (frozen!) without it and on longer journeys/highway when you can get (almost) totally out of the wind. I've fitted a double-bubble screen to the fairing, which is designed to create a pocket of still air between me and the fairing, that you can duck into. This works extremely well and means there's always relief there if I need it.

I'd say the bike gives protection from around the top of my thighs (if I pull my legs in tight) to about half-way up my lid. I can also feel a little warmth rising up from the engine when I pull my legs in. There's no pressure on my chest. Hands and lower legs are still out in the wind though.

The biggest tell-tale that the small fairing is doing something over the naked for aerodynamics/drag is in the 'official' top speeds I think. It states 135mph for my bike, 131.8 for it's naked brother. Same engine/gearing etc.

Thanks Creak! Having never ridden a faired bike before (noOb!) I'm curious as to the difference between the two. Your experience seems to fit what I've heard about other faired bikes. Thanks again!

No probs. Just bear in mind, you'd need a big fairing to really protect you on a sit-up bike, say bmw tourer style, there seems to be no way of getting away from it. I still get the shit buffeted out of me starting at around say 85+ (an almost vertical air stream just in front of me and negative pressure sucking away at my back), unless I crouch down behind the double-bubble. Then it all goes still and quiet (and I can enjoy the yowl on the overrun:devil:).

There's probably some occasions when the air moves around you better on the naked!
