I think you're doing the right kinda thing with that bike!

If you stick around very long you'll find that yellow is probably the most favored color of this group as a whole.

I also think you should give us the lowdown on this bike on track as i don't think we have any members who have done track events with a 599.

What track is that, btw? (I'm a go-fast-crack addict myself...but so far only in cars. ;) )

The track that those pictures were taken at is California Speedway in Fontana, Ca. The 599 does pretty well, although the front end is waaaaay to soft for my liking and is non-adjustable, I have the rear set at 5 clicks out which is pretty stiff for my weight (160 lbs). My next mod is definitely stiffer fork springs in the front. I agree the Micron can does look a little big but when I put it on, it was the only thing I could find that was available stateside. Other than that, the 599 fealt pretty good on the track. It sure feels good to pass 600's and literbikes in the turns, but they always pulled away from me in the straights :( I used Dunlop D208's which I absolutely love, I have used them for 2 track days and about 1500 street miles and they stick like glue.

Very nice bike. I agree with you the fork is a must in the upgrade area. I did mine and it was worth the cost.

That Micron is a bazooka man but I still kinda like it. What do you think about those barend mirrors? I have the round ones and they suck as far as telling what kind of cars are behind you. I can see them but couldn't point out a cop at any more than 10 ft behind me. They look like they stick out more though, how is that for lane splitting? Do you fold them in?

The 599 is pretty good as a track bike, particularly on more technical courses. The relatively short gearing, higher handlebars and lack of a fairing make keeping up with supersports and literbikes a bit of a chore on the straights, but I figure it forces me to become a better rider. On the curves, I can hang with anybody, as my ground-up footpegs will attest. I only weigh 150 lb, so the stock suspension suits me just fine.

What kind of mirrors are those? It looks like you get to keep the stock bar ends. Is that the case? If so, I'd like to get those. Where did you get them?

It's some performance stealing piece of shit that they put on the california bikes to meet their nazi emissions regulations. I forget exactly what it's called.

It's some performance stealing piece of...
It's and Evaporative Emissions Canister. I don’t think there is any performance penalty other than a few extra ounces of weight. It is, after all, good for the environment.

Being ugly does destroy performance, believe it or not.

The bar-end mirrors are the lockhart philips carbon fiber model. They do stick out a little far but have never got in the way of lane splitting or anything. They work great up until about 60 mph and then they get a lot of rattling and the image gets distorted. I am looking to do some more engine mods to get some more horsepower out. So far all I have done engine wise is the micron canister and a k&n air filter. What else do you all recommend?

Maybe a dynojet kit.
But if you want more h.p. take a cbr600rr :D

Great Idea! It's cheap and will make more of a differance than anything else. If you don't like it, swap back.

I would highly recommend a steel sprocket over aluminum. If you want it to last.

Yup...now who's gonna start the "What gearin' do ya use?" thread? :)
(and I like the Aluminum... about a 5 pound difference!)

(and yes,.... you guys are like girls with your topics.... no offense to the ladies on the forum)

So I'm thinking of going with 15/45 or 14/45. For those of you who have changed sprockets, what is your max speed with both of these sizes? I have been in 6th gear, red-lining (on the track of course), and have got it up to low 130's. I know this depends on several things such as rider weight, body position, riding conditions, etc but I just want a general idea. I weigh about 180 in full leathers and was fully tucked at this speed. The reason I am changing gearing is to get a little more top speed but if the difference is negligible, I won't even bother. Also, any brand of sprocket recommened? Should I bother changing the chain too? Cheers,
-Garrett

i believe 15(or14)/45 is going to give you more acceleration, less top speed. So, if you want more top speed you would need to go BIGGER in front, smaller in back.

(damnit,.... go to the other thread, i posted it!)

(EDIT: HERE IT IS AGAIN! Go Here! (http://www.honda599.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=88))
