Let me know what you guys think. Rim strips are 3/16 inch and reflective yellow from Tapeworks. I've changed the original thread now because it grew darker outside and I was able to get a few night pics showing the reflectiveness of the strips. First pics are day time, then the night time reflective ones...Oh, and I recieved my license plate in the mail today. Curious if you guys think the plate is corny??

I'll take it back. The yellow bike looks good and the trim looks good on that bike. Better that most.

Are you lovin the Dec weather? Good ridin. Went to Deals Gap Saturday andthe mountains of East TN and Western NC today.

YES I'm lovin this weather. You know, I'm over here on the east coast of NC...in Greenville. It's been gorgeous the past few days. I wouldn't rather be anywhere else in the country right now...

They have standard widths for the strips. I think the standard width is 1/2 inch which is waaaaaaaaaaay to wide if you ask me. They also do 1/4 inch. Just so you know, I did 3/16 inch.

They will cut ANY width you want. They'll cut it 2millimeters wide if that's what you want. There is like a 5.00 charge for widths that aren't standard since they have to cut an entire sheet for just the one order.

They're very nice guys. I plan on dropping back by their shop in the spring and maybe getting some "Hornet" logos done in reflective silver to replace the "599" logo on the tail right now.

Very cool. I'm not one for stickers, but those just look good. I've been thinking about what color i should get for the 9er, but i wasn't planning on going reflective. But on second thought, in the day you can't tell and at night it doesn't hurt to be more visible.

And about the plate...it's cool...no worries. It could be MUCH worse.

The rim stripes look really good on your bike.

JMD, you can put black rim stripes on your bike so they will be invisible in the day time, but still reflect at night.

I had really considered getting reflective black rim strips, and one day I might change mine to black. I think on the yellow hornet's, yellow rim strips look good (if not too wide and gauty). But, otherwise, I'd go with the reflective black.

I personally think you need something that lights you up at night time so you're more visible to all the cages. So, the reflective strips really light you up at night time.

Keep us posted on the black rim strips and let us know how that "Hornet" sticker works out too. I ordered some from the UK but they look kind of weak.

On second thought, maybe the grey/silver is the way for us 06 heads to go. The more I look at your strips, the more I'm reminded of Tron. And I've always wanted a light bike.

Just IMHO.

Silver would look good on the 06 body since the body is black. But you guys' wheels are silver, so I personally would go with the reflective black rim strips. I think rim strips look great on naked bikes when they are THIN enough to just ACCENT the wheels, and still provide reflective protection for night time.

The cool thing is that Tapeworks will cut me a "Hornet" logo and it can be done in reflective silver, OR reflective black. I haevn't decided which one to get...but I"m getting one of them.

I was just thinking out loud. I had considered black because everyone thinks black keeps in line with the streetfighter theme. Once I put the yellow on my bike, I knew that was the best choice for ME. At some point in time, I may decided to do black just for the hell of it...but that won't be for some time, and will only be once I've modded everything else and have ran out of things to do.

It's kind of weird that no one else up here has done rim strips. Over at the UK Nest, seems like everyone has rim strips.

I've been planning on doing it, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. Too many other mods to do first. ;)

And i actually think i'll go with the red rim strips...sort of like the Raven R6 has on it's wheels.

Red strips on a black bike is HOT (am I too old to use this adjective?). I understnad the too many other mods thing...but after having done this myself, it's definitely one of the cheapest good looking mods you can do...IMHO.

I always wanted a light cycle as well!!! How cool would that be!?

As for stickers...in the UK we tend to take the stickers of all together...my hornet stickers are now in the bin...the same as I did on my last 2. I think the less clutter on the bodywork the better...swingarms and forks are fair game though.

Where can I find those? Are those from Tapeworks, too?

Thanks for the info Moto-Chris. I called up Tapeworks and had them send me out one 3/16th inch set in black and a set in white; they said the white were more of a grey - and I thought it might work on the sliver rims of the 06s. The white strips did look more silver than white, but were not a good color match with my rims, so I went with the black which looked much better. And the 3/16 width is perfect. Barely noticeable, but when you do take a double take, it looks very slick, very clean; not showy at all. They don't pop as much as they would if I had black rims, but they do still light up nicely. A nice addition since I lost the red reflectors with my new undertail. Here are some pics with and w/out the flash. It doesn't really do them justice, but it will give you an idea. -Hopefully they are not so big that they throw off the formatting of this thread-

Nice to get the round of approval. :D And yeah, those guys at Tapeworks kick ass. If anyone is looking for some strips, I highly recomend them. And go ahead and call them instead of emailing. You'll appreciate the very great customer service they have.

I didn't see on the website where you could request strips of a certain width. I want to get the 3/16th, too.

Pretty sure you just e-mail or call in the order. They do mention custom sizes are available at extra cost. I imagine you're looking at $30-$35.

My only worry is that the rim strips will wear out, peal off or become discolored. I wonder about the longevity. Are they a quality vinyl product or just a paper sticker. Has anyone had them on for a few years?

I own the thread starters (MotoGP) bike now, since October of last year and the strips been on since Dec 18 2006 (according to the first post). Theyre still on and theyve held up good. I have also been caught in the rain a couple of times on the bike cruising down the interstate and they havent came off. they pretty much look like they do in the pictures from back in 2006. Oh yeah theyre not paper stickers theyre vinyl.
