I just put beefier fork springs in. WOW one of the best mods I have done yet. The bike turns better and is far less vibey. I was afraid of making the ride too harsh but it turned out more supple. This make really hauling through turns much more fun. Hi speed cruising is improved as well.
Also added steel braided break lines. Some moderate improvement in breaking. Still won't take my head off.
Everyone seems to be into the cosmetic stuff. I have added a end can from UK company Fuel and replaced all of the side plastics (any thing painted silver) and front fender with carbon, added a factory screen, undertail, rizoma mirrors and switched up to the Pilot Powers.
The end can and fork springs are must haves.
If I had a few bucks to put into my bike I'd definitely upgrade the fork springs! (Getting rid of that ugly undertain section would have to be next though!)
Anyway, post pics of your bike! :D
Buying a 919 instead of a 599 was my 'mod'. I'd call that anything but cosmetic.
But seriously...with these bikes, if you really are going for performance above all else you've bought the wrong bike. But if you're going for the overall package, you can't really go wrong...and i think that's what most people here want.
The only things i didn't like about my 919 were all cosmetic. The thing's as comfortable and as fast as i'll ever want. (The torque these things have is *amazing*.) The only real functional mod i did was lower bars...much better riding position, imo.
But i get what you're saying...there are always more mechanical aspects of the bike that can be bettered. And i'm glad that you spoke up. Maybe more people will follow your lead. And i second Alex: post up pics! ...and welcome to the forum. :welcome

Where did you get them? How much?
I am interesting in swapping mine out - but haven't found a vendor yet.
Thanks

I used Race Tech. They have a spring weight calculator that turned out perfect. The stock is a 75mm and I went with a 98mm. The handling is much improved. The suspension is now "pushing back" when I head into a turn and sharp road bumps are much less jarring. The bike has a more solid feel.
According to my mechanic the stock set up is ideal for a person of about 160lbs. I am about 190 so we left two clicks on the preload rear to balance the bike out. I also switched from stock 5 weight fork oil to ten.
The springs were 120.00 with shipping and I had the break lines and springs done for 150.00.
I ride pretty much everyday and have used the 599 for touring, track day, and a daily commuter. It was my first bike and these mods have allowed it to really grown with me.
Here is a link to an article I wrote for my companies newsletter. It's a fluff piece and somewhat cheesy but it features shots of me riding the gap.
I'll post some close ups in the future.

It's not a fender eliminator, but it does look better for just a bit of time and effort.
