View Full Version : Extended warranty
Does anyone here have the extended warranty? Ever use it?
I got the extended warranty, 5 years total. Usually I don't buy extended warranties. I paid $800 for this one. I have buyer's remorse.
The dealer did a great sales job on me. He had a big chunk of metal on his desk, which he said was part of a motorcycle engine (or was it transmission?) that costs $3500 to repair. He said stuff like this can easily break because motorcycles are subject to such high stresses.
Now I hear that Hondas are bulletproof. Great.

Chris G 02-16-2007, 11:33 AM I think i paid like $200 for a extended warranty and i needed the extra cost to be able to use my loan check.
yamawho 02-16-2007, 11:50 AM I never get extended warranty on anything I buy.
rndthought 02-16-2007, 12:00 PM Don't worry about it Dave... you got it so let it instill you with peace of mind. Keep in mind, just because it is al low % chance that something will go wrong, it doesn't mean it will never happen... Now you don't half to even worry about taking it easy so flog ur hornet and have fun! :thumbsup
If nothing else, it's a great selling point for when you're ready to sell your Hornet. I paid a premium for my used one because it had an extended warranty on it.
My Canon Rebel's shutter broke recently... if I had extended warranty I wouldn't have to pay 200 bucks to repair it.
Like RND said... let it bring you a peace of mind. :thumbsup

Yup I got the exact same thing at the same price, I NEVER buy extended warranty's nor does my dad who also looked at the contract and failed to see the warranty, they definitely know how to work around menitoning that....now its costing me
I accept that I have the warranty. I can't go back and change what I did. Who knows? Maybe I'll need it.
I think this discussion could help people who come here before buying. I did a lot of research on the bike, but the extended warranty took me by surprise.
By the way Steve, what kind of bridge? Got any pictures?

I got the warranty on mine too. I happen to always get warranties. I've gotten away with having a whole lot of stuff fixed because of them. However, in my recent spill, just about everything damaged was aftermarket parts, so the warranty wouldn't have helped. Also, read that thing carefully, there is lots of stupid little stuff that will void your warranty.

Sure you can. I originally got the warranty but regretted it. I called Honda Financial, told them I didn't want it any more and they took the cost of it off the remainder of the loan (pro-rated, of course).
The rule of thumb for most people is if it's a new model, the extended warranty is more likely to get used and a better gamble. In a tried and true model with a powerplant that has a long, great track record, an extended warranty shouldn't be necessary.
When I bought an '03 ST1300, I picked up a warranty because it was a brand new model. It paid for itself. With my 9'er I didn't bother since the model was established and the engine has a long history of being bulletproof.
FWIW - hondadirectline.com sells the Honda extended warranties MUCH cheaper than any dealer can. And if you are an HRCA member, they publish an annual $100 coupon in Red Rider for extended warranties. I was able to get a 3-year warranty on the ST13 for $300.
Polestar 02-23-2007, 07:20 AM I purchased my '04 about two months ago. When I checked out the Vin # with my local Honda dealer, he told me there was an extended warranty on the bike for approx. 2 more years. Since it was a used bike, it did provide me with some peace of mind. However, I proly wouldn't have purchased it myself.
BTW, I believe you can cash it in? They'll proly just pro-rate the refund based on how much of it you've used.
