View Full Version : Hornet Sightings
I just saw three other Hornets (one 599 and two 919s) on the same street.
That has to be a record.
I was riding to Johnson Leather on Polk Street in SF (I'm getting a 2-piece suit). On the way there, I saw a silver 919 parked on Polk a few blocks from the store. At the store, a guy parked his flat black 919 right next to my 599. Both of us did a double-take when we saw each other's bike! Then on the way home I saw an '06 599 parked a block from the store.
(Incidentally, Johnson Leather has great gear. Absolutely top quality leather and armor.)
This brings the total number of Hornets I've sighted in SF to around 9 or 10. The Hornet may be uncommon in this country, but there are more than a few in San Francisco.
Saltwatercolin 02-24-2007, 04:52 PM I really don;t want em to get too popular. I like having a bike thats a little different and turns heads.
all the plastic covered bikes look the same ;)
The naked look will get very popluar here with time. North America is always a few years behind europe regarding trends. Thats my opinion anyhow.
When it get a little dryer and a touch warmer, you and the other boys from SF should ride down and meet us South Bay kids at Alices. (You know where that is, yes?) Because to date, I have not seen another 599 up there. A couple of 919s, yes, but not another 599.
Yeah that would be cool.
I've taken my 599 down the peninsula a bunch of times already (never farther than Palo Alto). 280 seems like a good place to go fast, or maybe get tickets. There are some minor twisties off 280 where I practise. I could be doing this in Marin, but I'm too cheap to pay the $5 bridge toll.
I just changed the name of this thread to "Hornet Sightings." More generic, others may be encouraged to report their sightings.
stuntinon1 02-25-2007, 12:39 PM i have seen one the entire time i have had mine and i wasn't even riding. i was up in north kansas city and i saw a yellow one. i was pretty surprised, the dealership that i got mine from said that they are pretty rare in this area. especially the 599.
jfeagin 03-03-2007, 10:59 AM So far, I've seen two. One is mine. The other is a yellow '04 that my dealer had for sale. Don't know who had it originally. I almost bought that, except I wanted some of the mods they made for '06.
mochoajr 03-10-2007, 07:53 PM I saw a yellow '04 in Allen, Texas going north on Alma. The only one I've seen.
jfeagin 03-12-2007, 07:58 AM One more here! Was at the dealership Saturday and someone was taking delivery of an '04 asphalt. Still, it's nice to be unique. 8)
djamalt 03-12-2007, 01:28 PM I saw a black 919 at Neptune's Net on Sat. Anyone on here by any chance?
Slide 03-12-2007, 02:02 PM I have seen one other 599... ever! A yellow '04, 2 years ago. I don't get why there aren't many out there... not that I'm complaining.
When I was in the UK last summer and they're Hornet crazy... everywhere and so many custom designs and mods.
I saw a flat black 599 in SF today, on 15th in the Mission.
Two more hornets sighted in SF:
Thurs 4/5: Black '06 599 parked on Diamond near 18th St.
Fri 4/6: Red 919 riding on Haight at Cole
Do those belong to anyone here?
vthoky 04-06-2007, 06:13 PM I've only seen ONE other Hornet in my area. I stopped in at my local Honda store last week to have a look around, and there was a black -- oop, sorry -- Asphalt '04 sitting outside. No idea whose it was though, and I didn't get to talk to my sales rep that day. Bummer... it'd be nice to know. :?
jfeagin 04-07-2007, 08:09 PM First identified local owner besides me! Turns out to be one of the staff at the dealership. We were both at a meeting of a local MC club we belong to and someone else asked me what I ride, and off we went. Turns out he was switching over from being a metric cruiser guy. I tell ya, it's fate! :D
Another one today: flat black 919 on Pierce in the lower Haight.
When I started this thread, sighting another Hornet was a novelty. But I see 'em all the time around here. This is a motorcycle town I suppose.
Still, when it comes to naked bikes in SF, the 599s and 919s are nowhere near as common as the SVs and the Ducatis.
DavidVTHokie 04-09-2007, 09:13 AM Saw a bike just like mine when I was Key West. Everyone has a bike it seems in southern FLA. I wish I had my ride with me, it would have made a great trip even more fun.
yelladog 04-09-2007, 09:39 AM I haven't seen any in my area, but that doesn't suprise me given the scarcity of 599s in the entire US and the preference for cruisers in the southern states.
Most of the sport bikes in my area are the full fairing type and most are owned by young guys who wear running shoes, short/jeans and t-shirts while riding. My friends with sport bikes and I speak often about how tore up those kids will be if they go down, not good.
I did see a good number of naked/hybrid bikes when in San Fran a couple weeks back, whick I contiously pointed out to my wife :D.
I like having a different bike, most people have never even seen or heard of a 599 :thumbsup !!!
Charleegirl 04-09-2007, 10:44 AM Same down here in SW Louisiana, though it is about even sport bikers that wear gear to those who do not (cruiser folks down here where the least amount of gear as possible, including wearing the beanie helmets). When I bought mine last year a guy was sitting on it at the dealership and I told him to get off my bike (in a nice way), we ended up speaking and he bought a SV650 a few weeks later. I have yet to see another bike like our in this area!! I am constantly looking!!
Same thing happened when I parked in front of the dealership, a guy walked up and hopped on my bike. Hey, that one's not for sale!!!
I wish the 599 was more popular.
On the other hand, it amuses me when people can't figure out what I'm riding. Like a friend of mine who saw my bike and said, "What's that, a Blackhawk?"
robotribe 04-09-2007, 05:30 PM I agree with the notion that different is a good thing. It's one of the things I like best about mine. Ironically, when I took the MSF, in one of the chapters of the video—the one where this couple do the pre-ride mechanical check—the woman's bike is a yellow 599.
Even better, I took the class with a friend who rides a black 2005 CBR1000, and he kidded me a little that a "chick" rode the 599 in the video. Well, funny thing is, when we got out to start the range class, an instructor—a very petite and pretty girl—rode up on…a BLACK 2005 CBR1000!
For the record, I'm not the type who subscribes to the whole "chick car/chick bike" thing. Ride and drive whatever you want to, I say.
gr599 04-10-2007, 06:31 PM I bought my Asphalt 599 on 4/14/2004. In the time since I have NEVER seen another one. I saw a 919 once though. However, a guy I know just bought a wrecked yellow 599 for $500 that he wants to turn into a stunt bike.
djamalt 05-13-2007, 10:59 PM I rode up Angeles Crest Saturday - I love that run (so cal riders, we have to do that for a group ride) - and took a few pics at Newcombs.
http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/7085/img1192pi1.jpg
and low and behold, on the other end of the lot what should pull up while me and my boy were eating...

That's right, another Hornet sighting. A 919. This dude told me that he swapped out his forks with some CBR (I beleive) forks so he could adjust them and swapped out his rear suspension with something (can't remember what). I didn't get any close up shots of his bike though. Oh well.
yelladog 05-16-2007, 10:20 PM I just saw three other Hornets (one 599 and two 919s) on the same street.

This brings the total number of Hornets I've sighted in SF to around 9 or 10. The Hornet may be uncommon in this country, but there are more than a few in San Francisco.
I was in San Fran about a month ago and noticed the same thing, that there are a lot more in that area than about anywhere else. I also noticed there were just a lot of sport bikes in general and a good number of them are naked style bikes such as Ducatis and such.
Yeah. I continue to see Hornets on a regular basis. Recently saw a yellow 599 on 2nd St. south of Market. Not the first yellow one I've seen in SF, but asphalt seems more popular here.
Oh yeah, San Fran is Naked City! When Nicole and I went to the Greek embassy in San Fran a couple of month ago, I saw at least 5 Ducati Monsters in an hour's time. Haven't seen any Hornets though, but I'll take Dave's word for it. :D
Charleegirl 05-18-2007, 11:59 AM I was in the cage yesterday when I saw a black 919 in Breaux Bridge Louisiana around 7:30pm, my first sighting of a 919 and to date have yet to see another 599 on my travels!!
Cillian 05-18-2007, 12:37 PM I really don;t want em to get too popular. I like having a bike thats a little different and turns heads.
all the plastic covered bikes look the same ;)
The naked look will get very popluar here with time. North America is always a few years behind europe regarding trends. Thats my opinion anyhow.
Talk about the Hornet being rare to the US. My replacement tire took 3 weeks to get in back order from UK/Japan. So it will kind of help when it gets popular here. :)
Slide 05-18-2007, 01:45 PM  Too late. They no longer build the Hornet that we all have....
Billy from Philly 05-18-2007, 03:42 PM Guess that makes our "599 Hornet's" classics. :banana
rndthought 05-18-2007, 03:47 PM .... My replacement tire took 3 weeks to get in back order from UK/Japan...
What am I missing? 3 weeks for a tire? Did you order some specific tire because there isn't much special about the tires...lots of options out there...
jfeagin 05-21-2007, 09:40 PM Saw an '04 yellow in Baltimore last Tuesday. The only I've seen on the road. Others were in a dealership. Pretty shy group around here.
ol man 05-23-2007, 06:35 AM I was eye ballin' a new 919 at the dealer back in '04 but bought the '06 599 instead. Now the guy with that 919 frequents a residence just down the street from me, so I see it quite often. Last year I put on nearly 5k and to date, that is the only other Hornet I have ever seen.
Sachi 05-23-2007, 06:47 AM There is an asphalt 599 somewhere in the neighborhood here - I see it parked here and there. I've also spotted a few 919s and other 599s on occasion around San Diego county, although I don't make any great note of it (although I always wave to the other rider).
yeroC 06-11-2007, 03:27 PM :woohoo Finally saw another 599 today. He or she was travelling
westbound on Indian River Rd in Virginia Beach, around 1:30pm on a
'06 gloss black. Wish i wasn't going in the opposite direction and was
on my bike, i could've caught up and told him/her about the site.
Oh well maybe they'll stumble along and find us one day or maybe I'll
see this person again soon. This makes the second time in almost a
year that i've seen another one.
Did they make a silver 919? I think I saw one of those near my house recently, not sure because it was going the opposite direction. Silver is one of my favorite colors for a car or bike (or I guess you could call it gray).
ncv7557 06-18-2007, 10:07 AM live in Kansas and I can honestly say that I have never seen another 599 or 919 on the streets around here.....in fact when I first got the bike and called around to check on service prices some dealerships - even HONDA dealerships had either never even heard of the bike or had never worked on it before.
Also...does anyone else get a little offended when people call your 599 a crotch rocket...it just kinda makes me mad.
Evansville, Indiana. I saw a 919 last week while I was out there for a wedding.
I guess at least 90% of the bikes I saw in Indiana were cruisers. Standard riding gear was T-shirt, shorts, and sun glasses. Not many helmets. One guy wasn't even wearing glasses.
The weirdest thing I saw was a guy riding with his woman (pillion) and small dog (his lap). I mean, shouldn't it be the other way around?
crucial_d 06-26-2007, 03:32 PM I see Hornets fairly regularly in Portland. A guy down the street has an '06, just like mine. I can't think of at least a half dozen 919 sightings in the past month. A girl passed me in my car the other day, on a 599, going about 85. It was love at first sight.... I didn't even care about the dude on the Ducati she was following.
I also saw one in the parking lot of the Vespa shop last week.
cfcats 06-26-2007, 07:51 PM I went to Americade the first week of June and I have to confess that I went on the back of my bf's Yamaha FJR....left my 599 at home....and, guess what? I didn't see a single 599 at Americade! Not one!... Well, I know what I must do! Next year, I'm riding my 599 up there so all can see it! Anyone else willing to make the trek? Americade is a great rally...lots and lots of Hondas and other bikes....let's get some 599s up there!!!
yeroC 06-27-2007, 12:11 PM Over on wristtwisters i think there were a couple 919s that went up
there. With so many bikes i bet there was at least 1 lonely hornet 599
out there.
Was that vespa shop Prestige Motors on 7th and madison? It may be my bike...gold renthals?
crucial_d 06-29-2007, 10:01 AM Yes it was! I didn't get a good look at it, but it certainly was the shop at 7th & Madison. Nice to see you.
BTW, GOOse and I have been trading messages about a ride to the coast next weekend, over and back, same day. I should post it on the Rides section.
sseche 07-05-2007, 05:47 PM Dave, we should hook up and go see Alex at Alices.
That would make 3 at least in the South Bay.
That might have been my bike at 15th.
Skip26 07-05-2007, 08:52 PM I'm pretty sure I spotted a 599 in the movie deja vu that I saw last week.
JHenley17 07-05-2007, 11:52 PM I took the MSF course through H-D... the bike being pulled over for DUI was a 599... I rode my bike to class that day and didn't bother to point it out to any of the Harley riders...
Stopping at an on-ramp red light (87 onto 101, for those familiar) I thought I saw another yellow 599 riding up 101. Luckily, there wasn't much traffic today, so after some minor speeding I caught up with it. It was a 599 alright... and it looked awfully familiar... down to the carbon fiber Micron pipe. It was my old bike!!! I could hardly contain myself I was so excited!!! I pulled up to the guy and gave him a wave. What followed is a mini group ride until my exit.
I still find it funny how the only other yellow 599 I've seen in about a year and a half I've been riding is my FIRST 599! I'm going to get in touch with the guy I initially sold it to and see if I can get in touch with the guy that was riding it today.
Damn it, I'm still grinning!
DarkTint 07-06-2007, 11:02 AM Damn it, I'm still grinning!
That's got to be a good feeling to know that your old bike is back on the road. Congrats!
I was convinced that the guy I sold my 599 to had crashed it and possibly killed himself. It was his first bike, and he was calling me quite often with different questions and concerns about the bike. The last time I spoke to him he told me how he had been practicing wheelies and burnt up the clutch. He also told me about how he passed a car on the inside shoulder of the highway doing about 100, punctured the front tire and just about wiped out. The phone calls suddenly stopped after that so I figured the worst.
A couple weeks ago my wife told me she saw the bike though, and the rider had a female passenger wearing one of my old helmets that I gave him in the deal.
 I'm glad he's okay... but if he keeps riding like that (first bike?!) he won't last too long.
yeroC 07-06-2007, 06:02 PM :squid
juice303 07-14-2007, 07:26 PM Spotted a yellow '04 on my way to work today on the 174 heading East. I was headed west on my way to work(Cage but it is a Honda). Between Place D'orleans Blvd. and Tenth Line Exits!!!!!! only the second time ive seen one in ottawa this season.
djamalt 07-18-2007, 04:18 PM I could hardly believe it!!! I’m riding ye ol 599 to work this morning, splitting lanes at a red light about to merge onto La Cienega from Fairfax, and I see something in my rearview. Looks kind of like a yellow Hornet. Passes me, it is a yellow Hornet! SWEET! We rode for about 4.5 miles together before the yellow Hornet got on the freeway going in a different direction that I needed to go. Sound familiar to anyone? Was it you? Holla back.
I continue to see other Hornets in San Francisco on virtually a weekly basis.
On Suday I saw an '06 599 parked on Folsom Street -- with the key in the seat lock. Ooops! I have to admit I've done that too.
Recently I saw an '06 599 with Oregon plate parked on Haight Street.
Also saw a 919 in Haight-Ashbury not long ago.
:?: I wonder if any of these bikes belong to members of this forum.
crucial_d 08-01-2007, 03:00 PM I was in SF over the weekend, looking everywhere for a Hornet so I could point it out to my friends, and I didn't see one anywhere. Glad to know they're down there, but I guess not in North Beach last weekend....
Also, I met an asphalt 919 at the intersection of Greeley and Portland Blvd this morning on my way to work. It was in the process of turning, so may not have seen me to the left already on Greeley, stuck at the red. This happened in Portland, btw. Damn, I sure love the look of the asphalt. I have asphalt envy.
rndthought 08-01-2007, 03:25 PM Ya know, I took all the stickers off my bike (save the wing logos on the tank) but I'd be willing to put a "HONDA599.COM" sticker on the swing arm.... no bigger than 1"x3" though... Yellow letters, Black outline stroke, on a clear or sliver background...

Anyone knows a printer that can do stickers for us for a decent price? I'll look into this myself, too.
JHenley17 08-01-2007, 09:55 PM I'd buy one... I'd put up to 6" long on my swingarm...
I'm thinking of removing the wings and having a friend design a cartoon hornet for the tank and removing the 599 from the tail... but that's only if I ever get it painted (which would be to matte black).
vthoky 08-03-2007, 09:53 PM Anyone knows a printer that can do stickers for us for a decent price? I'll look into this myself, too.
I've got a Fastsigns and a Sign-a-rama nearby. The Sign-a-rama guy lives in my neighborhood. I'd be glad to check it out for you. Do you have any specs/requests on the material and the font?
600dpi images:
Example1 (http://blackcatresearch.com/images/logo2.jpg)
Example2 (http://blackcatresearch.com/images/logo2a.jpg)
No specs as of yet, but I'll work on it.
PDXrider 08-06-2007, 06:56 AM Also, I met an asphalt 919 at the intersection of Greeley and Portland Blvd this morning on my way to work. It was in the process of turning, so may not have seen me to the left already on Greeley, stuck at the red. This happened in Portland, btw. Damn, I sure love the look of the asphalt. Dang. That is in my neighborhood. I will have to keep an eye out for it.
sloan 08-06-2007, 08:55 AM 90% sure I saw an asphalt '06 NW of Houston at the feeder street intersection of HW 290 and 362 yesterday around 11:30am. It was with a red bike that sure looked like an 07 Hornet. The headlight is the main thing I noticed. It MAY have been a Brutale. It was behind the 599 from me. I didn't get to look at it long enough before my light turned green and the other bikes I was riding with started rolling otherwise I would have stopped to get a closer look. :thinking
Bacdef 08-06-2007, 09:18 PM I see a fellow yellow 2004 daily.
It is chained up to a service station along my path to and fro work. After seeing it there for two weeks I stopped and asked the clerk at the service station what the bike was doing there. She replied "I thinks its the owner's". She meant the service station's owner of course. I asked if it was for sale or for show and she didnt know. She offered to call the guy and I said OK.
After a bit of cell phhone magic it turns out the guy bought a brand new 2004 599 and a service station all in one swoop. He does not have time to ride anymore because he's a business man now.....
So the bike is for sale. No signs or adverts, you have to come in and ask :P.
It is a 2004 599, under 1000 km on the clock, still under factory warranty. Asking price is 6500$ Canadian, which is what the dealer is (was) offering him to take it back.
I'll try and swing by the place this week with the ol' camera and snap a pic of my bike and his side by side. Yellow duo !
If anyone is interested the bike is in Beaumont, Québec.
DarkTint 08-13-2007, 11:00 AM I was in Wisconsin this past weekend for a wedding and my wife and I saw a black '04 599 in a outlet mall parking lot just south of Kenosha. It took us both by surprise. Belong to anyone here?
rndthought 08-14-2007, 08:24 AM Was in Lansing this weekend (sorry Steve, quickie family trip no time to breathe) and saw an red 919 sitting in front of one of the dorm halls...Sunday, around noon I think.
vondiesel 08-14-2007, 09:02 AM I have seen at least 3 Hornets in Gainesville. One is an Asphalt '04 599. It's parked directly in front of Tigert Hall (UF campus) on 13th street most (dry) weekday mornings. It must belong to someone who works there. It's usually right next to a Kawasaki ZRX1200, which looks like a beast next to the smaller 599!
I've also spotted a gloss black '06 a couple of times. It went by me on Newell Drive (also on UF campus) as I was walking out to the parking garage from Shands hospital one day. That wasn't Chim Chim, was it? I know you have an '06, but I don't think I've seen you specifically around town.
Finally, I've spotted a gloss black 919 a few times on the northwest side of town on 39th ave, usually riding two up. Not sure of the model year, though. I'll keep my eyes peeled for more. I haven't seen a yellow yet.
So that's 2 599s, plus Chim's makes 3, plus a 919 for a total of at least 4 Hornets in G'ville. I hope I can join the crew soon! I'm getting jealous.
vonD
Skier 08-16-2007, 07:44 PM Okay, which one of you guys were rolling through Pullman today? Yellow Hornet with two Goldwings in the group.
djamalt 09-23-2007, 05:53 PM I have a few...
919, ashphalt black, along Piuma or Fernwood today.
919, burgany, cicling the Rock Store today.
599, gloss black 06, with windscreen, Rock Store today.
Anyone on here belong to any of them? I was riding with some friends and Leatherwings from our forum. We were shocked to see so many Hornets. If you include ours, that's four at the Rock Store at the same time. There were a billion bikes there today, so we couldn't find the owners. Anyway, holla.
I saw an asphalt 599, a twin to mine! parked outside a coffee shop on Ouelette Ave. (in Windsor, ON) today. So far its the only other 599 i've seen in town
New to the site from Windsor also, I saw an ashphalt black one parked downtown the other day. So that makes at least 3 in town.
sloan 09-23-2007, 08:31 PM I had a friend tell me yesterday that he saw a yellow 599 near the Galleria in Houston last week. He thought it was me and caught up to say hi.
LeatherWings 09-23-2007, 09:15 PM Thursday I was chillin out at the vista point on Mulholland west of the Rock Store when a guy on what looked like an '05 919 passed by and gave me the head nod... right on.
pricelister 09-24-2007, 04:23 PM I saw a Matte Black 919 at Gingerman Raceway in Michigan on 9/22. Anybody from here?
Saw a burnt orange 599 crossing Stateline here in KC today. Anyone???
adambomb 09-26-2007, 04:23 PM Outdoor Center a week and a half ago, Saturday, the 15th. It was all geared up with luggage and a Givi fairing. The weather was perfect. I was up there for the mountain biking and white water rafting. The N.O.C. is about 20min. from THE DRAGON! I didn't ride there yet because of oppressive police presence and having the wife and a couple of mountain bikes plus camping gear along, I would have run out of room on the 599. I will be back.
sloan 09-30-2007, 02:40 PM Saw a black 599 waiting in a light rain to turn north at the intersection of West Little York and Empire Central Dr late Saturday afternoon. Probably around 5:15. This is just over 2 miles from my house and the closet to my house that I've seen another 599.
yeroC 10-01-2007, 02:09 PM Saw someone on a matte black 919 packed down with all kinda gear
riding with a guy on a BMW packed down. Pretty safe to say they were
doing some touring.
JohnG 10-01-2007, 09:04 PM just saw one in Phoenix, oh what that one is mine!
One of the houses in my neighborhood used to have a 599 parked in front. Not any more. Now it's a 919.
Also, I just learned that my next-door-neighbor bought a yellow 599 with 700 miles on it for $3900. He's picking it up next week. Where was that bike when I was in the market?!
robkb 10-04-2007, 07:56 PM I'll show you mine if you show me yours.
02KBGT 10-05-2007, 04:41 PM  Here we go again! :D
vthoky 10-06-2007, 08:10 PM [thread drift]
I've been seeing a Honda Hawk in town recently. Always liked the look of those....
[\thread drift]
OK, I'll drift with you. I saw a CB-1 near my house a few weeks ago. I've always liked the looks of those. Kind of a forerunner of the Hornet, I guess.
cfcats 10-08-2007, 06:57 AM i finally saw my first Honda 599 (other than my own!).....it was yesterday, october 7th, at Van Sant Airport in Bucks County, Pa.....and, whoever it was, never stopped...just rode up to the airport, turned around, and rode off again! How i would have loved to say hello and chat a bit about our bikes! Was it anyone out there? I'd love to know....
Seetrout 10-08-2007, 11:52 PM Mech and I saw an 06 at the Ephrata bikers meet on Sunday.
He saw it riding in...sharp eyes...I was trying to not run over pedestrians and find a parking spot big enough for 2 bikes.
599'R 10-09-2007, 08:00 AM I spotted a 919 up in Mahwah, NJ parked in a condo developement where we do a lot of our work.
vondiesel 10-09-2007, 03:46 PM I spotted another Asphalt '04 599 on UF campus a few days ago. It was on Inner Road behind the Architecture building. It had a Givi rack on the back (NICE!!!), but the topcase was not on it. I don't suppose it belongs to someone here?

yelladog 10-09-2007, 09:17 PM if I see one every 6 months it's still unusual, whic is one thing I like so much about having one
not to mention the fact that I'd customized mine so much with so many mods that it looks little like a factory one anyway so it's just that much more unique
I went to bike week at Myrtle Beach, SC back in the spring/summer and I didn't see on 599 like mine and very few at all, more 919s than anything and most of them looked very stock and very plain
if you're going to have a bike you may as well make it yours
LeatherWings 10-17-2007, 01:11 AM Earlier today (Tues Oct 16th) I was goin up Mulholland Hwy from PCH and someone on what looked like an '05 919 or maybe '06 599 passed me goin the opposite direction.
Instead of the usual biker wave, I gave him the "right on" fist. hahaha.
Was that any of you guys?
JHenley17 10-17-2007, 07:41 AM In or around Phoenix? I have a lot of family on the east side (mostly in Surprise and El Mirage). The only naked I saw in my three weeks out there last summer was a silver SV.
VooDooYouDo 10-19-2007, 01:06 PM Considering I live in the Land of Harley-Davidson, there aren't many 599s or 919s around.
Anyone else from Wisconsin?
Sundog 10-21-2007, 06:32 PM I was wandering around New York this weekend for the CMJ music festival, and saw hundreds of bikes. From what I saw, Manhattan was mostly sport bikes, but Brooklyn had more variety - cruisers, 80s Japanese standards, Italian streetfighters, cafe racers, and a black 919.
Saw an asphal 919 on Highway 92 yesterday. Riding 2 up. I wish I could ask "Anyone?", except I know I won't get a response. BUT... I just realized that I think I know who that might have been. So wierd how easy it is to figure out when there are so few of these things around. I ran into this couple, a guy and his wife who always rides on the back, twice! I bet it was them!
cannon 12-06-2007, 03:32 AM I spotted a black 599, or maybe a 919 east on 44 from Bowles. Guy had a black helmet with a greenish visor and a backpack. I think it was fenderless, but it was hard to tell as he was just entering the highway.
yeroC 12-18-2007, 06:00 AM Ok i wasn't sure last weekend. I was working in the yard and i hear a
motorcycle coming down the street. He was about passed my house when
i turned to get a look and it was a yellow naked bike whose tail looked
incredibly familiar. I stood there mouth agape for a second 'cos in my
mind i'm thinking this douche stole my bike, even though i just looked at
my bike 10 minutes prior in my garage and would have seen someone
come in my yard. Then yesterday it was confirmed. I'm on my way
home for lunch and lo and behold near my street i pass someone on a
twin of my yellow '04. :woohoo
Since i've had my bike (June 06) i've seen two black 599s and one 919.
Never another yellow!! I'm stoked. Hopefully i can catch up to this
person one day and lure him/her(but i think it's a him) to the site and
to some good ridin'. Mini swarm VxBx stylee.
It's funny how excited we get at seeing another Hornet - these things are so damn rare. To date, the only other yellow 599 I've seen in person was my old one.
I see so many 599s and 919s in SF, I don't bother posting them here any more. They aren't as common as some other naked bikes (SVs and Ducatis for example) but Hornets are not an uncommon sight around here. Did I mention my next-door-neighbor got a 599 a few months ago?
JHenley17 01-17-2008, 04:01 PM Anyone here from LSU? I saw an 06 today parked next to Coates. It caught me a little off guard. My first thought was "wait, I didn't park here," then I realized that I was seeing the first 599 outside of a dealer floor that wasn't mine and I was a bit excited...
...and wow, the stock muffler looks huge compared to the X-cone...
Sundog 01-18-2008, 04:27 PM Three black 599s around these parts. Considering that these parts are two medium towns in rural southern Virginia, that's pretty good. Must be something in the water that makes people want black, 600cc, naked streetbikes.
I've got to say, though, my 599 is losing OEM parts and gaining aftermarket bits faster than the other two... femaletrouble3 and vthoky, keep up! Start hacking off plastic!
I have an unfair advantage because I bought the bike with some seriously crude modifications already. The tail section was cut off and left jagged, the read turn signals didn't quite point in the same direction, and there are mysterious dents on the gas tank. I've cleaned up what I can and learned to love the random imperfections that I can't fix.

Non-reversible mods are a slippery slope :) That being said, your 599 looks better (and a bit "badder") every time I see it.
My "mod" bike is the Rat in my avatar on the left... I really like the way it turned out from what I started with.
As for my 599: I know this statement may be considered to be blasphemy by some on this forum, but I pretty happy with stock '06 599.
Yes, the rear fender is a bit much, especially the way it extends past the license plate. Yes, the stock signals are obtrusive to the look and are really the wrong color (which vthoky has eloquently fixed on his), but they are very visible compared to some aftermarket options being used.
Power/powerband isn't that bad. There is plenty of gitty-up-and-go. Feels slighty peaky at times, but there is enough of a presence at the bottom if you get into a situation where you really need it.
Yes, slight rearsets might help my position some.
Ok, I'm not happy with the stock mirrors. They are ugly, don't fit the lines of the bike, and I have to pull my arm in to really see anything.
Darn you Sundog, now I want new mirrors!!!
Which bar end mirrors are the best to get? My requirements: easiest to install, good on vibration, good rear view, good on quality/look. These things are more important than cost to me. I know there is plenty of bar end mirror discussion on here, can somebody give me the distilled version?

Ok, I fully realize I am replying to my own post.
But after perusing a bit, it looks like the CRG Hindsight LS is the way to go?! (with adapters, right?)
Pricey but excellent?!

Sundog 01-22-2008, 08:53 AM The knockoffs that I bought are fully functional, and cost $35 for a pair. Just search ebay for bar end mirrors. They don't vibrate as much as the stockers did, and I don't use any bar weights. They do reduce the size of the objects behind me, but I gain a wider field of view. The mirror position down by the grips means that I do tilt my head down and to the side a little bit to look through them, but I bet if I mounted them a little higher that wouldn't be a problem. I like the look of forward and straight out, instead of up, but that isn't the best position for viewing. Installation of the mirrors is easy, but getting those stupid bastard stock bar weights out is a pain. I didn't have a little tab to press down, so I had to lever the things out bit by bit with a screwdriver, which broke. I made a mess of the ends of the bars, but at least that is hidden.
The knockoff are functional BUT they are not very high quality in look or feel. The extra money for the real deal could definitely be worth it, for those of you who aren't starving graduate students.
According to djamalt, you can buy the CRG adjustable elbows and put them on the knockoffs.
rndthought 01-22-2008, 09:30 AM ...I pretty happy with stock '06 599...
+1 otherwise I'd just get a different/another bike like Tomcanna or Chris
Mitch 01-22-2008, 10:01 AM I went to SFMoto in San Francisco to check on a Honda Shadow for my friend. I happened to park right next to a green 919, and thought, hey, that's my big brother. No one fessed up to owning it, so it might just be someone who lives nearby. I didn't know they made them in green, but I have to say, it looked pretty good. (dark green, not neon Ninja green)
SFMoto is where I bought my first 599. (Just a useless piece of info.)
Mitch 01-22-2008, 11:50 AM Those guys are really really nice. They're kinda like the Mythbusters dudes (which oddly enough, live in Oakland). Sadly, I have yet to see any 599s. Seen plenty of Triumphs though, and one Triumph guy looked over and said "gotta love the naked bikes."
I've seen a green 919.
I like the people who work at SF Moto, but I've been going to Scuderia West lately. They have a good service department, high quality merchandise, and an awesome line up of bikes. Lots of exotic machines that I enjoy looking at. And the people at Scuderia are really nice, too.
There are some 599s in Berkeley. There's a guy on SBR named Mitch who has one. Is that you?
Mitch 01-23-2008, 09:28 AM Yup, that's me!
robkb 01-23-2008, 10:30 AM I assumed you are a professor at Berkeley or some place near there, hence the name. Keep it. It makes you look smart.
Mitch 01-23-2008, 11:38 AM haha, I'd be making a hell of a lot more money than I am right now if I were a professor. Maybe I should actually change my name "Professor'sBitch".
rndthought 01-23-2008, 12:21 PM Everyone is someone's bitch. You're young, you'll get used to it
But it ain't all that bad, if you are lucky some day you'll figure out that it is the Sub/Bottom in the relationship that really holds all the power :thumbsup

"Bottom"... lol. Seen a lot of Will and Grace?
Mitch 02-12-2008, 09:22 AM I've had a fortunate couple of days so far. On Sunday, fellow poster "Calai" joined up with a group ride. And this morning, as I pulled into my usual parking spot next to the UC Berkeley Campus and Strada, I looked across and saw an '04 charcoal 599. Just to make it obvious, I moved across the street and reparked next to it. Anyone know who this might be?
Adamizme 02-26-2008, 03:43 PM I have seen at least 3 Hornets in Gainesville.
I'm getting jealous.
vonD
I'm suprised you haven't seen me in g'ville. I get tired of all the traffic around Orange Park/Jacksonville and ride down to gainesville pretty often. I have a few friends down there and am always looking for a reason to visit.
motorico 02-28-2008, 07:55 AM Saw what I believe was a 2006 599 in Dallas this morning. Headed west on Frankford at about 8:30.
Anyone on the board?
Mitch 03-06-2008, 09:24 AM I usually park next to a '04 599 on Tuesdays and Thursdays near Strada Coffee, but as I was leaving yesterday, a red '04 599 pulled up next to me to take my parking spot. We chatted for a few seconds about how he got it custom painted. I didn't recognize it at first, but it looked pretty darn good. I also told him about the forum, so we might get a new member soon.
cannon 04-22-2008, 12:03 AM I went to Kansas City about two weeks ago. We were driving though the Plaza and I spotted a yellow 599 with yellow rim tape parked with a couple of other sport bikes. Looked pretty nice....for yellow.
A couple of days ago I spotted a yellow one here in STL (44 at Elm). No wave back. :?
I'm standing at a vingage point on 9, enjoying the view, I hear a motorcycle passing, I turn my head just in time to see a tail of a black hornet. I turn around and speed off after him. The guy was fast and my attempt to catch up failed. I was disappointed, but pulling out of 9 into downtown (I think) Saratoga, I saw him standing on the light. It was a black 599! Yeah!
I pull up and say hello. I ask if he's on the forum. He says yes, his name is Kevin. Awesomeness! I ran into kjhobbs!
His light changed and he had to go. It was nice meeting you Kevin!
LeatherWings 05-06-2008, 07:02 PM Yo djamalt, I saw you ridin north on Highland into Hollywood on Saturday around 5:05pm.
vthoky 05-16-2008, 06:25 PM Three black 599s around these parts. Considering that these parts are two medium towns in rural southern Virginia, that's pretty good. Must be something in the water that makes people want black, 600cc, naked streetbikes.
Hey, fellas. I've been away from the board for a while (work, family, work, work, work... and one other old hobby I've recently picked up again) so I'm not well caught up on all the postings. Anyway, I got a message this week from another B'burg member! He's got a yellow '04, bringing our mini-nest to four Hornets. I won't name him here, as he's not posted yet -- I don't want to ruin his anonymity unintentionally. (He'll come around... we all do. )
Back to work....
motorico 05-19-2008, 09:44 AM I believe I saw a 599 or 919 on Sunday, May 18th, in Broken Arrow, OK sometime in the 3PM time frame.
The rider and vehicle were headed east on Highway 3.
Anyone from the group?
I just spotted a beautiful 919 with lots of shiny aftermarket parts parked outside my apartment. I left post-it note on the seat with our URL. I'll be able to hear the engine and know he/she read it.
I hope the rider joins us!
DarkTint 05-21-2008, 11:08 AM Looks like there are more and more 599's/919's on the streets these days.
I saw an 06 599 on westbound I-44 near Bowles Ave yesterday at about 4pm.
I just returned from vacation in London and Paris -- my first trip to Europe since getting the 599. As expected I saw lots of Hornets over there.
Some are marked CB600F.

The mods are not exactly what you see in North America.
After-market seats and tank covers seem to be popular in France.

I got the impression that Hornets are more common in London than Paris. In any case, some other types are far more common: the FZ6 comes to mind, not to mention all the scooters.
They have some nice machines in Europe that are hard/impossible to find in North America. Sorry for going off topic, but here are a few more pics from my trip:

JHenley17 05-25-2008, 02:36 PM Nice pics. I want a cool seat and whitewalls, now...
Look at the exhaust on the 659!
I'm hoping to study abroad in Italy next summer. Hopefully, I'll catch some coolness there.
Chris G 05-25-2008, 11:12 PM i have only seen 1 honda 919 since i moved to Colorado and it was trashed and for some reason it had a bright pink rear shock.

cobra671 06-01-2008, 06:51 PM A younger gentleman came into the store today while I was working (autozone), and he was riding an asphalt colored 04. He said it was his buddies bike. I was just wondering if his buddy was on this forum? It was autozone on Haygood road here in Va Beach.
vthoky 06-09-2008, 08:20 PM I think I saw an asphalt '04 this afternoon between Christiansburg and Radford.
Sundog? Was that you?
yeroC 06-10-2008, 05:18 AM Cool pics Dave. Sorry i'm kinda late. A couple of those bikes were
disgusting. :D
Cobra, I think we're the only ones from VB on this forum. And mine is
yellow so it definitely wasn't me. 8)
tsweimer 06-10-2008, 09:51 AM I'll give my two cents. The only 599's I've seen around the lower mainland/ Vancouver area have been one at a dealer 3 years ago and the two I went to look at for sale last week, one of which I brought home. I was looking for something that was a little rare without having to go the Ducati/Aprilia route. Thanks Honda!
I saw a black one parked on Granville St. downtown a few weeks ago. There's also a black one that parks in front of my office building at Granville & Dunsmuir occasionally, although I haven't seen that one since before the winter.
Keep an eye out for my Yellow '04 tsweimer, I'm in the Vancouver area too :)

It was me. I ate lunch fast and took off for a long riding break. I rode that twisty back road that connects Pepper's Ferry and route 11, and then took the fast way back on 460.
I haven't seen the new yellow 599 owner around yet, do you know if he rides much?
tsweimer 06-10-2008, 07:09 PM Will do. Looks like the rain buggered off for a bit here hopefully I can get out for a ride.

Well next time I see the bike, I'll be sure to mention the site. hhhmmmm.....Wish I had some stickers to put on my truck and bikes. hhmmmm.... I would rock that sticker on my gsxr too, just to piss off the faithful. :D I don't hate, it's ugly.
599'R 06-11-2008, 07:25 PM Spotted an 06 599 coming down Miller Rd in Mahwah(Norhern Bergen County,NJ) today,he was behind my work truck for about 4 blocks then made the left onto Franklin Turnpike and the quick right onto E.Ramapo. The wind screen had a POW/MIA decal on it.
Any one out that way at around 3:30 this afternoon?
robkb 06-12-2008, 04:20 PM I went to "Bike Night" a couple of weeks back. It's cool if you like tricked-out Harley's.
I just thought I'd give a shout out to Vic who was cool enough to show up on his 599 and park it next to mine.
cannon 06-18-2008, 08:18 PM Caught up to a maroon 919 on 44 west from Elm today at 7pm. Got to follow the bike for a minute or two and ogle. The 919 looks so nice on the roll!
markv 06-19-2008, 07:02 AM Finally saw another in Windsor, Ontario.... turning left from Dougal to West Grand/South Cameron Tuesday evening rush hour.
robkb 06-19-2008, 11:47 AM I didn't see any, but lots of people saw mine! Last weekend was "Thunder on the Water" at Grenada Lake. Hundreds of people were parked on the 3 mile-long levee in Grenada awaiting the sun to go down and the fireworks to start. I cruised at will wherever I pleased because of the 599's slim attributes. At 15mph on the 599, everyone was a little bit cooler for just seeing me go by.
Saw a guy on a 919 at a light a few blocks from my residence. Always a cool thing to see another Hornet.

Um, are we talking about Lud? (I can't remember right now if he told me his was yellow.) I haven't seen a yellow one out at all. I need to cruise through your 'burg more often on my way home (it makes a nice commute).
Twisty between PFR and Route 11? I'm trying to think... Vickers Switch comes to mind. Am I right?

For a bike that isn't supposed to be very common, there are a lot of us in this area. Excellent. I live and ride around Blacksburg, and get on 460 whenever I can to stretch her legs a bit. I have a matte asphalt '04, a bit worn around the edges. It's... scrappy. Definitely ridden often. Silver helmet and red and black jacket. If it's cold, I wear a completely ridiculous 50s-style leather jacket.

Aye, so it was, mate. 8)
vthoky 07-02-2008, 08:19 PM I thunk it was you! :D
robkb 07-25-2008, 11:14 PM Being from Grenada, MS, I never see 599's. Well, I've been in the San Francisco area ALL WEEK and still haven't seen any 599's. Oh, well...
Sundog 08-06-2008, 07:44 AM A black 2006 599 passed me after I parked on the VT drill field a few minutes ago... who was that? One of the three other registered riders in this area, or another 599?
femaletrouble3 08-06-2008, 11:18 AM I live in the NRV but never see any other 599s. I guess I will just have to ride mine more so maybe we will see each other in the 'burgs.
Welcome hondahoney! I live and ride in the NRV too along with vthoky, sundog, etc.
I'm on a '06 and usually have on a BRIGHT yellow jacket...

hondahoney 08-09-2008, 04:18 PM Cool. Obviously Southwest Virginians have good taste in motorcycles, since there are several of us on here. Hope to see you riding! :D
crucial_d 08-12-2008, 11:32 PM I saw a black '06 cruising down the street right in front of my house, just south of Lombard last weekend. Had a little owie on the right side of the tank. I started to gesture like an idiot, until I remembered it's not a good idea to gesticulate wildly at the guy on the bike. PDX Rider, is this a friend of yours? He/she was in our neighborhood.
I've also passed a black '06 going in the opposite direction on McLoughlin during evening rushhour a couple of times in the past 2 weeks. I see the same red 919 travelling the same route at least once a week too!
geektb 08-13-2008, 10:31 PM Saw a black 06 going North on I-5 by the Tualatin exit a couple of weeks ago during the morning rush hour. Right before I almost got merged on by an idiot on a cell phone.
When I was at the stealership getting the bike, there was someone else there wanting to buy the same one. The sales guy helping me out had to practically fend off the other sales guy because he was standing there asking if I was going to buy it and how sure I was? How bout now? are you going to buy it now?
Luckily they just finished building another one, but I did $800 off because the one I got was the CA model. Go figure.
Opticycler 08-22-2008, 12:53 PM Coming home from work today, I noticed there were lots of bikes on the road, but then, probably the second best looking bike in Conn. went by in the opposite direction. It was a 599 heading north on I-95 in Waterford today(Friday). It was about 1:30 pm. Looked a lot like Snapperhead! ????
JHenley17 08-29-2008, 08:43 AM Including mine, I now know of three on LSU's campus. I parked next to one Monday, stock except a removed left mirror, and saw another parked Wednesday with "Hornet" grips, a pipe, mirrors, and some other small things. Throw in pillowpants and that makes four in Baton Rouge. Mine's second coolest to his...
Trunkmonkey 08-29-2008, 09:48 AM I don't think i've seen another 599/919 around my area of So. FL on the roads anyway. I do however work with a guy who also has and 06' 599 same as me. He's got a few more upgrades but hey, he also makes more than me. Anyways, anyone near Coral Springs or Ft Lauderdale hit me up.
Snapperhead 08-29-2008, 01:16 PM Yeah that was me opticycler. I am usually to busy trying not to get hit by the cagers to see bikes going the other way. Sorry if you got hit by my sonic boom as I went by  we should head out for a ride again soon
geektb 09-04-2008, 10:49 AM Went by an 06 599 this morning a little before 8 am in Tualatin, OR. They turned right on Martinazzi Ave and I turned left. Don't know if it was anyone from here tho...
Slide 09-04-2008, 11:48 AM 3 599s and 1 919 in the last 2 weeks... and in my small town as well!?!
If anyone was around Paris, drop me a line... we gotta ride!
Saw a 919 Sunday 8/31 (around 1:00?) on Pescadero Road near La Honda.
Mitch 09-04-2008, 02:37 PM I saw this guy on a '06 riding around Berkeley earlier this week, and then as I was riding home, I saw him again. I rode by, gave him a thumbs up, and went on my way.
SLC599er 09-04-2008, 10:19 PM OK, so I've been looking for 599/919s in Salt Lake for the better part of a year now and I've only (maybe) seen one 919 on the street. And that might have been something else.
So I go to my kid's school tonight for open house and what's parked on the sidewalk right in front of the school? A green 919! Wild. I didn't see the rider and the bike was gone when I came out, but I'll definitely keep an eye out for it again.

I guess you're talking about someone else, but I was riding in Berkeley Wednesday around 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Mitch 09-04-2008, 11:48 PM nah, it was closer to 5-6pm. Unless you have a yellow helmet?!
markv 09-05-2008, 11:45 AM Asphalt 04 on the back of an F150 heading west on the 401 somewhere around London on Labour Day.
Chavez 09-06-2008, 03:42 PM Crucial_D,
That was me you saw, owie and all. Tell that story later. That same weekend I saw another 599 parked just passed St. Louis ave in NoPo. Wonder if that is someone from the nest also.
Gonna have to get together as a P-town crew and take a ride some weekend. Anybody down?
I was visiting family in the Seattle area for 2 weeks, and I was riding up to chinook pass by Mt. Rainier on my little brothers yellow vfr 800 (sweet bike by the way, just might be my next bike) anyways, on the way up I passed a yellow 04 around the Greenwater area. I believe that was Aug. 23rd

I'm always down for a ride :D
crucial_d 09-11-2008, 08:11 PM I'm definitely down for a ride. Pdx Rider lives about 4 blocks from me too. How badass would it be to have 5 or 6 Hornets haulin' ass to the coast? Hopefully we can cold-smoke some lardass Harleys.
Cherry red 919 driving through Solway around 11 am?
I think maybe I saw this same bike a few weeks ago driving around with a chick on a Ducati monster.
femaletrouble3 09-18-2008, 07:24 AM Saw a bone stock '06 this morning on Draper Street (I was on foot), rider was wearing a blue track outfit?
I think that the New River Valley may be in contention for the highest number of 599s per capita anywhere!?!

Laugh.. actually my hubbie and I are thinking about heading out to the coast this weekend with a few friends.. any hornets that want to tag along are welcome. I'll throw a post up in the rides section.

I rode last Thursday but not on Draper and mine is a '04. Although I had on blue sweatpants and was on Washington. Freaky. Maybe there is another one in the NRV. We definitely could give other communities a run for the money per capita.
vthoky 09-24-2008, 04:46 AM I think FT3 told me once that the girl who works at the Honda dealer has a 599... I'm wondering if that's you, Hondahoney?

It's me but I don't work there anymore. I spent my paychecks on all the toys (cars, motorcycles, atvs, accessories, clothes) had to find a new line of work :P

SLC599er 09-25-2008, 08:41 PM Woohoo! Finally saw a 599 in SLC, '04 asphalt with a can and bar-end mirrors, parked up at the University just a few blocks from my place. Nice looking bike, I'll keep an eye out for it again.
LeatherWings 09-25-2008, 11:16 PM Today I made a pick-up at an office building in El Segundo and parked next to a Yellow '04 599 in the garage... anybody from here?

NakkidHonda 10-09-2008, 08:22 PM I saw a black 919 going down Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando today. Anyone from here?
n2citrus 10-13-2008, 12:04 PM I was in Hollywood over the weekend, and saw an 06' at the Jack in the Box in Castaic. Anyone here?

mda540i 10-13-2008, 02:08 PM I was pondering the 599 but hadn't sat on one. I was at work, my desk is on street level and this guy pulls up and parks his yellow 2004 599 right outside. So I run out, I think he was excited someone new what it was! We talked and he ask if I wanted to sit on it, that's all it took!
There is a 2006 black that parks across from my office everyday, so including mine 3 in my neighborhood at work in Seattle!

pfff, that was me! Steve 1
I was in Coldwater last weekend and this weekend seen about 6 bikes that came down to Ft. Wayne from Coldwater to stir up some trouble. I don't think they realized how many turbo bikes there are around here! :rad
hondagirl 10-19-2008, 03:22 PM Was anyone here on the bridge with the frogs on Saturday?
I'm sure I saw a black one going over-
My first sighting!
Anyone here on a Yellow '04 at the riders inn at the end of the dragon on 11/02/08?
hondagirl 11-05-2008, 12:48 PM hmmm, perhaps I should be more specific and say Willamantic,CT.
LOL!
somwone 11-05-2008, 05:18 PM saw a 2006 silver hornet in fullerton, CA, drivin down malvern near the railroad tracks
anyone here?
PDXrider 11-09-2008, 06:26 PM I see a black one parked in front of a house off Greeley Rd in North Portland all the time. Who lives in my neighborhood? hmm.. who is it?
Flipper 02-27-2009, 10:18 PM I saw an 06 599 today (just like mine) at the intersection of 14th St and Arizona in Santa Monica.
The rider had on a white and orange Suomy helmet.
Was that you?
I was the overly excited girl in the car next to you waving as you were waiting to turn left.
Sorry, I just don't see other 599s very often.
robkb 03-01-2009, 04:19 PM wow, Flipper! Your YouTubeVideos ROCK!!!
Flipper 03-01-2009, 06:39 PM Thanks robkb.
robkb 03-01-2009, 06:52 PM Flipper, How do you put a video of yourself online?
djamalt 03-01-2009, 07:09 PM HEY FLIPPER's BACK!!! Glad to know you're still out there lady girl. Did you hit Malibu this weekend? It was pretty amazing, almost 80 degrees!
Met a guy on a burgundy 919 at the rock store this weekend and ran into a few people who seemed to know a lot about the 599. I guess our bikes are starting to get a little more popular. Soon Ducatis will park next to us for anti-theft protection. :lol2:
Flipper 03-01-2009, 11:18 PM Hi Guys,
I never left. I just don't post much.
But I love my 599 more than ever.
djamalt,
I haven't ridden in three weeks :(
But my last ride was from Santa Monica up PCH to Cal Coast Motorsports in Oxnard!
That's a verrry long ride for me. Mostly I just commute around town.
robkb,
Posting up on YouTube is easy and free. If I can do it, anyone can.
Did you catch my Born to be Wild tribute video to my 599.
Don't miss the important message at the end.

I'm working on making a video with my bike. Stay tuned.
So, does anyone on the board know a 599 rider in SoCal with a white and orange Suomy helmet?
deltron 03-07-2009, 03:15 PM I think I saw a black Hornet today on Skyline Drive in Ringwood, NJ - riding past the Ringwood dam. I was chatting with some other riders by that little parking lot near the dam. If it was someone on this board, holla!
robkb 03-14-2009, 09:52 AM I'm fixing to head up to Memphis in my truck. I might load the 599 in it just to show it off! That's the only reason I buy trucks: to have a vehicle that might could haul my bike. Sooner or later, I'm hauling it to San Francisco - where my brother lives. For real (bet), the summer of 2010, I'm trucking me and my 599 to the West Coast. I'll unload the bike at my brother's (Hayward, CA) and cruise up/or down to somewhere cool as hell.:wink::wink::wink:
HORNET SIGHTINGS: While I'm in Mempho... I hope to see Vic and others on their 919's and 599's. There's a dude at Desoto Honda who has a bad-ass 919. I hope I see some naked hondas.
belligerent 03-14-2009, 06:41 PM This is pretty belated, but I was in NYC last month (Feb 6-8) and saw both a 919 and a 599 while I was there. The 919 (black) was parked across and down the street from my hotel, somewhere in the vicinity of 232 W. 29th St (or thereabouts) for a bit on Saturday morning sometime. Then later, I saw a 599 (also black) stopped in traffic during the unseasonably warm (~50 degrees) weather.
Lots of naked bikes in NYC...saw a lot of Ducatis, too.
jfeagin 03-15-2009, 09:11 PM Finally found out about a local 919 rider. He saw my bike at work and put a note under the handlebar. Cool to know there's one around here!
I've known two other 599 riders in the area for a while. One worked at the dealership where I bought mine. The other was an instructor on the MSF Experienced Rider Course day I took.

Flipper 03-16-2009, 02:43 PM Thank you guys.
Hey robotribe, those are great pictures of your 599,
I'm using one as my desktop wallpaper.
I saw a grey 599 today in Memphis at lunchtime. He took Poplar to Manassas St. and then I40 East. Anyone?
And yet again, I spotted a black 2006 leaving Mud island. The rider was wearing a yellow Icon military style vest. Anyone?
inthesky 03-30-2009, 09:32 AM recently took a vacation in San Francisco. i saw a black (2006?) 599 in a parking garage with sliders. anyone? i took pictures with it.
splootch 03-30-2009, 11:02 AM Just saw a '04 Black Honda yesterday on the Danforth in Toronto. Mine's still in storage for another week! Me want ride NOW!
w21irving 03-30-2009, 12:05 PM First bike I saw while on a trip to L.A. was an asphalt 919! what happy greetings. On Silver Lake blvd, next to the water resevoir
I just saw a grey 919 in Memphis, heading to the DeWitt airport.
Pyxlwyz 04-11-2009, 11:08 PM I'm a week late with this, but last weekend I had a ton of things to do, and the weather was prime for riding. Whilst out and about, I saw a red 919 at the corner of Exchange & Greenville, and on two separate occasions a yellow 599 on McDermott in Allen TX. Man, I was so jealous. I can't wait for more good weather.
motorico 05-06-2009, 06:47 PM Saw a yellow 04, MIVV cone, rider had a yellow and black helmet at Legacy and 121 in Frisco/Plano at about 7PM this evening.
My money is on it being Transient.

Was the rider wearing four jackets, two pairs of gloves, and three boots? That very well could be him.
vthoky 05-17-2009, 05:33 PM Holy Moly!!! Flipper is sooooo cooool!!!! :thumbsup:clap
Once again, I'm standing here agreeing with something yeroC said. Awesome!
belligerent 05-17-2009, 09:35 PM This was a couple weeks ago but I was out riding and saw a black 919 in town (I passed him and the cruiser dude he was riding with, then we parted ways at a stop sign); it might be the guy who is sometimes parked at Advance Auto Parts. It's kind of funny because I think every time I experience another hornet in the wild when I'm on mine, the reaction is always the same from both riders. "...is that...?????? YES, IT IS!!!"
Flipper 05-17-2009, 09:59 PM I think this counts as a sighting.
I was watching a TV show today called 1000cc RawThrill.
They had a segment on winterizing your bike using a CBR1000 as their example for FI bikes.
Then the guy walks over to a Honda 599 and starts talking about it's carburetors.
I think it was an 05, it was flat black.
I don't even remember what he said, I was so excited to see it on there because every other bike in the show was a 1000cc.
I guess sometimes only a Hornet can fill the bill.
Sundog 06-01-2009, 12:34 PM Saw a radioactive green 919 today here in Blacksburg. The per capita hornet ownership around here (Blacksburg and Christiansburg) is pretty high, but it has a downside: whenever I see someone ride by on a 599 or 919, it reminds me at that point that *I* should be on mine.

Where are you guys? I never see you! :?
Then again, I've worked some weird hours recently... Haven't seen much daytime lately. :-(
Hey, NRV Horneteers: is there one of us in Radford? Mrs Vthoky swore I was spotted in Radford recently... ordinarily that would be easy to believe, but I didn't ride that day.
hondahoney 06-01-2009, 08:12 PM Rode today. I never see any other naked riders either. I was in Blacksburg and Christiansburg. Plan on riding tomorrow too. Hope to see you!
vthoky 06-02-2009, 03:40 AM I'm headed out in about 30 minutes, from C'burg to Radford.
If all goes well, I'll be heading back via B'burg this evening.
Have a great day!
Sundog 06-02-2009, 06:37 AM I spot you guys from time to time, but usually when I'm riding in my car.
This is pretty dumb, but what usually happens is that I see the bike, think to myself that the bike looks good, and *then* realize that I like it because its the same as mine.
My ride to work is very short, not much chance of being spotted. Then on the weekends, if I ride I like to do 50 - 100 mile loops through the network of country roads around here. I guess I don't spend much time riding in town.
vthoky 06-02-2009, 08:10 PM Sundog, have you done Route 8 through Childress to Hiwassee? I ran that a while back, then whipping across the lake and rolling through Black Hollow into Dublin. I finished up via Peppers Ferry Road, but if the weather had been better I could have run Route 100 out through Belspring and back in toward Fairlawn.
Just one more route for ya to consider....
LUCIUS 06-02-2009, 09:32 PM I met a fellow on a red 919 at the Cocoa beach Peir recently, we rode for a while he would not stop talking about how he liked my 599, and we compaired our bike modifications .I took that sucker on some river roads with turns and twists and deep drops,oh what a helleva ride .

I did that exact route last weekend! It was great! Got lost a few times, though. Which just made it better.
vthoky 06-03-2009, 06:14 PM I did that exact route last weekend! It was great! Got lost a few times, though. Which just made it better.
Ha! It's easy to do out there... the Black Hollow / Alum Spring route has fooled me a couple of times.
Vthoky's bonehead maneuver: The day I did the Childress - Hiwassee trip, I did some mapping on Yahoo and printed my route. I got halfway up Route 8 before realizing I didn't have my maps with me. (D'oh!) It made the trip even more interesting! (As did the unexpected rain.)
I turned around just past the train depot in Allisonia. Have you followed that road beyond there? Does it go all the way to Foster Falls? (Yeah, I'm too lazy to dig out a map right now.) And what comes after that?
Igneale 06-04-2009, 12:33 PM This was a couple weeks ago but I was out riding and saw a black 919 in town (I passed him and the cruiser dude he was riding with, then we parted ways at a stop sign); it might be the guy who is sometimes parked at Advance Auto Parts. I was referred here from another forum and saw this. If you were in Carbondale on Wall St. heading toward 13 (Wal Mart) it was me on the niner. I lived down there for years (took a few extra SIU years) and left. Came back to ride the wine trail with some friends and was as you said shocked to see another CB my color in Carbondale.
It was almost 4pm. today when I saw a black 599 with some luggage on going East on I-40. Anyone?
robkb 06-05-2009, 11:45 AM It was almost 4pm. today when I saw a black 599 with some luggage on going East on I-40. Anyone?
Cool. I'm always on the look-out for 599's. Never see 'em. I'm jealous.

Whoa, small world!! And yeah, that was me. Carbondale is like, 90% Harleys and 9% faired sportbikes, so it's always cool to see something different, ESPECIALLY something as cool as a CB.
I finished SIU in 4.5 years (I wound up having to re-take courses because they changed the curriculum and requirements for my major when I was halfway done....typical SIU crap) but I've lived here my whole life. I guess the riding roads are pretty decent, even if the weather totally sucks lately.
MikeCB600F 06-05-2009, 08:40 PM I have seen only on other 599 and that was a yellow on in Merrilville IN. I have seen several 919's.
JWAJack 06-08-2009, 11:40 AM Saw my first 599 on the road yesterday, Sunday, June 4, around 3:30 p.m., on Paseo del Mar just after Luanda Bay in Palos Verdes Estates: 04 Asphalt, guy in a black jacket and red helmet, with a female friend with a pink scarf riding a blue HD with saddlebags. I came up on the two of them and started thinking "that bike seems familiar . . ." finally pulled up along side and confirmed it as a 599. I was sort of jazzed and was going to say something, but the rider didn't seem too keen or that into meeting another 599.
Saw the pair a second time about 40 minutes later about to turn right onto Western from PV Drive South/25th Street in San Pedro, just as I was turning left onto Western from the opposite direction.
And a4, if you were thinking of changing your license plate after getting the top case (and saddlebags?) to "Bagg Ldy", I'm sorry to say that the HD rider already has it.
vthoky 06-14-2009, 06:21 AM NRV Horneteers, I was out yesterday and saw none of ya. W'sup with that?
hondahoney 06-14-2009, 07:28 AM I was a loser and didn't ride yesterday, sorry to disappoint.
vthoky 06-14-2009, 07:56 AM It's okay, I'll be the loser today. I shirked my responsibilities yesterday and rode. Today I've got to make up for it. (Darnit.)
I thought i saw the yellow flash of a Hornet in CA on Hwy 395 between Lone Pine and Pearsonville (check google maps, a most unlikely location!)
Anyone claim to have been there?
JWAJack 07-02-2009, 10:17 PM I saw a maroon 919 today (7/2/09, 6:30 pm-ish) parked at the "Cars & Stripes" event at the Port of Los Angeles. Anyone here?

Transient 07-07-2009, 03:37 PM Saw a black '06 599 in on the way back from Kansas City off highway 69 in Kansas! YAR!
carlitos_92 07-07-2009, 06:20 PM I saw a 2006 Hornet with a "Ride Naked" sticker in my garage this morning, as I walked right past it with a 60-lb bag full of laptop and architectural bullshit... :(
Sundog 07-14-2009, 01:00 PM I met a new NRV 599er today in Blacksburg in the parking lot next to Buffalo Wild Wings. If only the 599 was as popular everywhere in the country as it is around here, we would be getting the 2008 model.
Sundog 07-14-2009, 01:03 PM maybe because we have a honda dealer nearby that brought a lot of them into the area? I got mine from out of state, what about other NRV people?
