I asked about it once just being curious... and the guy at our honda dealer said don't do it. Bad newws for the engine. I didn;t question him about anything as it wasn't of serious interest anyhow.

Okay, I'll ask .... why?

No offence ... seems kinda like the cheap way around spending some money on a quality can, or full system.

The stock muffler is $409 on bikebandit.

I'd recommed keeping it and putting on an aftermarket can. That way when you go to sell the bike you can put the original can back on. The more original your bike is the more it's worth.

I'm posting a link from Dan's Motorcycle course. I agree with him about leaving the performance along. THe mordern bike if finely tuned for optimum performance. Just get a bigger bike. My guideline: The space shuttle appox 20,000 MPH. I'm not going to top that.

Now believe me, I just LOVE to hop up an engine. However, the best advice I can give you is this... DON'T DO IT ! Why do I say this ? Because there is a better way. Sell your little bike and... Buy a bigger bike. To put it another way "Speed costs money, how fast can you afford to go ?"

The guy at Honda is full of it  . I punched out the baffle on my stock can and it did not harm the bike. The bike sounded like a gold wing with the stock can so I just took a long tool and punched out the baffle and it did sound better. In the end I went with the micron can and love the sound the exhaust note makes it like music to my ears :headbang . If you want my stock Honda OEM can you can have it for free. But you will need to pay for shipping. :!:

...THe mordern bike if finely tuned for optimum performance...

First I agree in part with Tom. I'm not that mechanically inclined and don't have a garage stocked with all the tools I need to do these things. Not to mention that I don't get too excited about these things. So I'm not gonna improve on the stock setup much compared to cost of buying a better bike with better equipment (specifically in the motor department).

However I would like to point out that although when you purchase the bike it has probably been tuned to the optimum point for that configuration... it does include some penalties like passing emissions tests and noise ordinances and desired life with super complex calculations on MTBF statistics for all the parts...all while hitting a price point.

IF they didn't need to worry about some of those things, it may change the ultimate tune of the bike. Know lots of people who have removed/modified the stock baffles. Since most are in an endless modification cycle, crash or sell the bike, who knows about the longevity factor...but performance gains, were obvious. And some of 'em would have dismantled the motor and put it back together just to do it, cause it was fun even if there was nothing to modify :?
