Chirs, first, you know I love you and your withdrawal leaves me a bit sad. I know you have a lot going on so pray all is going well. Now, I hope we can take this as an informative and instructional demonstration of human nature... I really think it is valuable for anyone willing to honestly read it and look in themselves...(and Chris, I hope it makes you smile a bit! I still envision you jumping on the bike with all that passion you showed those first days...)

This is a true story, the events are real, the rider is real...no names or facts have been changed. (that I know of...I mean other than the change of name from "Honda599In NorthCarolina" to "MotoGPFan26"...but that is another story... )

Sun Oct 15, 2006
I do not plan on getting above the 6000 rpm mark for quite some time and I do not plan on twisting the throttle to very hard regardless of rpm position. I do like the fact that the motor is "tuned down."
...not plan on getting above the 6000 rpm mark for...Rrrrrrrrrigh. This logic didn't work when you were a teenager and it won't work now...

Sun Nov 05, 2006 (Evening)
...WOOHOO Rode my 599 today for first time!!!...
Mark your calendar...

Thu Nov 09, 2006 (Mid afternoon)
...then touched 7500rpms in third...
Hummm....Less than 96 hours to exceed 6000 rpm..."quite some time" indeed

Thu Nov 09, 2006 (Evening)
... Don't care if I ever get to redline...7500 was a blast...I think I will be keeping it down a bit for the future.

Mon Nov 13, 2006 (Evening)
Incidentally,...you guys have any idea how SMOOTH the engine gets between the 9K-12.5K rev range? I do....
Hummm.... less than 192 hours to reach Red Line

Actual event occurred some time early Dec, 2006
...I thought I'd be smart and I went to pass him in a curve, nailed the throttle, and went VERY wide. I ended up hitting the edge of a curb, the bike went 2 feet in the air, and I went 2 feet off the bike. I have no clue how I didn't highside. I learned a lesson that night. I finally realized that there is riding, and there is RIDING. Since then, I've made it a point to start LEARNING HOW TO RIDE.

Mon Jan 08, 2007
...I learned a lesson that night. I had become one of those people that experienced riders warn about. I had developed a very false sense of ability. I forgot to mention another problem was the curve was a decreasing radius curve and I decided to start my pass just as the curves radius started to decrease. I called my wife that night and told her I had to completely rethink riding. I am a better rider from that experience. I now KNOW without a doubt I am nothing more than a brand new rider and need to ride like one.

Let's see, less than 3 months from Beginner to Nicky Hayden Jr. to Student...

:?: Will you be so wise :?:

:ride Chris...and my best to the wife and baby!
