My new baby has about 15 miles on it. A few friends noticed that it is leaking gas! A few drops under the left side of the bike. If I swipe my hand under that part of the bike, I can definitely smell gas on my hand. Does not seem to be coming frm the tank. The sides of the engine are clean. There is some kind of rubber tube hanging down but it doesn't seem to be the source of the leak? This is about 6 inches forward from the shift lever.

Anyone have an idea as to what is going on? It was cold this morning when I left my home, and it has warmed up quickly. I'm sure the dealer topped off the gas tank. Could this gas just be overflow?

Update: I read the post "oil leak?" and the replies. This sounds like my exact issue and the responses explain what I am seeing. I'm taking the bike to the dealer tomorrow to get some paperwork from my trade in. I'll double check with the dealer, but I expect it is the "burping" overflow that folks described.

Yup...that's what it sounds like. As long as any fluid is coming out of those tubes and you can't see it running down the engine or coming out anywhere else, you're probably fine.

Even if the tank was topped off well below the neck, it's still possible for the overflow to have some fumes or gas coming out of it. Normal stuff.

It's also possible that it's overflow from the carbs, not the tank. If it's still showing up in a couple of days, take it back to the dealer.

Don't smoke near your bike.
