View Full Version : Bike Bags
02KBGT 06-03-2007, 05:27 PM Anyone have a particular Tank or Tail bag they are fond of? I'm needing a way to carry a pair of shoes , Raingear and stuff to and from work..And since I've never owned any of this stuff I thought I'd get the Experts input... I'm pretty worried about how some of them mount too..I dont wanna scratch my baby :D ...So do Magnetic bags work well, or should I stay with the straps..And what brands are you guys using ?....Just anything you can tell me would be a huge help...Thanks peeps..
Sachi 06-03-2007, 06:11 PM RKA. It's the best you can get.

02KBGT 06-03-2007, 06:37 PM Those look very nice...And plety big enough for what I need...Thanks bunches....I love doin all this searching and stuff for the new baby...
And BTW, Thats a nice Beaver you have there..
Sachi 06-03-2007, 06:44 PM That's an OTTER. It's holding a clam.
Claire gave it to me because an otter is my spirit animal (so she claims, because I bounce around and pester her constantly.)
The bags actually are expandable too -- there is a top compartment that unzips and gives about the same amount of space as the bottom compartment. See the website for more info.
Sachi 06-03-2007, 06:44 PM I won't comment on whether or not I have a nice . . . oh, never mind.
Dresden 06-03-2007, 06:49 PM lol
JasonC 06-03-2007, 09:26 PM I've ordered one of these tailbags:
Moto Fizz Tail Bag (http://www.aerostich.com/catalog/US/MotoFizz-Camping-Seat-Bags-Small-Medium--Large-p-16405.html)
It's not here yet, but should come in on Tues. It may be a little bigger than you're looking for, but it's supposed to be really nice. I'm hoping it can be my everyday work (computer/ papers/ books/ binders) bag.
More to come...
rndthought 06-04-2007, 12:59 PM Jason, that looks great - let us know how they work...
And can you see if MotoFizz can make me a pair of pants...?
By a clever optical illusion, this bag won’t look big when mounted on your bike.
Slide 06-04-2007, 01:22 PM I've had an Icon Urban Tank Bag for 3 years now. I commute on my bike during the summer so I use if for rain gear, shoes, lunch... stuff like that. No complaints and it turns into a backpack with a helmet holder. And or course it has the clear top pocket for maps which is really handy.

Aww, come on! I can't believe it's taken this long for somebody to post the proper response! It's "thanks, I just had it stuffed!" Don't more of you guys (and gals) watch the Airplane! movies?

I bought a Cortech tank bag and tail bag. I took one trip and they both worked out great. For the tank bag, you need to make sure the tank and the bottom of the bag are clean.

femaletrouble3 06-06-2007, 08:50 PM I just got a Marsee 28Liter "High Pockets" magnetic tank bag, working great for me so far (only a couple of rides tho). I think it is a discontinued model for Marsee, they are on sale on line in multiple places. Highly configurable rig.

vthoky 06-12-2007, 02:15 PM The Joe Rocket sport saddlebags have been mentioned elsewhere on this board... Dennis Kirk has them now on closeout for just $70, down from $125.
Ordered mine yesterday. :D
02KBGT 06-12-2007, 04:37 PM Good eye vthoky...I'm looking at them now :D
I know www.axio-usa.com (http://www.axio-usa.com) has tank bags, i have one of their backpacks and they are very nice, and are of good quality. i can only assume that their tank bags are good too.
pioneer1320 06-13-2007, 12:56 AM I bought this bag and I like it a lot. Its expandable...well has a lot of features.

Im sure you can look up dowco as well.
02KBGT 06-13-2007, 04:23 PM Thanks for all the input everybody...I finally bought a Tank bag..I bought the Nelson-Rigg Magnetic. suprisingly I got it for $40. Thats like $25 less than Kneedraggers has it for... So far I'm very happy with it. Plenty of room for Keys ,glasses, Garage door openers, And Rain-Jacket Liners... But I still need a good Tail bag. Right now I'm using a Backpack, And its really getting on my nerves.. It wasnt designed for 70 MPH highways ( I feel like Im about to take off lol)..But its all I have for now... Mostly what I'm carrying are clothes because in the mornings @5:00am its been in the 50's. But by evening its in the mid-upper 80's... So obviously all the crap I wear to work (overpants, Riding jacket, Coat, etc.) I dont wanna wear home...Its a pain... Had one guy at work tell me I looked Like a Camel riding a Camel  ..Not good..I have a reputation to uphold :D ..j/k .. I'll have to buy something soon or I'm gonna get depressed over the bad image and leave the Hornet at home for fear of more Unpleasant remarks..
Thats a very nice bag you have pioneer..I saw that one yesterday on one of the many sites I browsed... So does it have as much room as it seems? Looks like a pretty big bag.... How about quality?
djamalt 06-14-2007, 01:08 AM For those of you touring on the 599/919... do any of you use soft saddle bags? and if so, how do they hold up when pressed up against the muffler (I'm really speaking to those with pipes that actually get hot - meaning, the non carbon fibre or titanium crowd).
rndthought 06-18-2007, 02:06 PM ... do any of you use soft saddle bags? and if so, how do they hold up when pressed up against the muffler...
Just got back from a trip and some where else I posed some thoughts but I'll post here too...
-Paniers (saddle bags) --> no issues with the muffler (I have a Ti 2Bros) only a little "melt" from havinging it right at the end of the muffler (melted due to the hot gas, not contact with muffler) No more issues when I scooted the up toward the front a little bit. Some "rubbing" marks on my pipe (anyone know how to polish Ti?)
-Get the racks for the paniers to mount to. Sturdier and easier. Also, unless you really need them, see about just gettting an obnixiously large tail bag. Logisticly it is easier.
- If you go soft luggage, the condoms that come with them don't do anything (much) - Maybe keep them dry if the bike is stitting still in a light mist. Get water proof compression bags from a hiking store for anything that needs to stay dry. Spray everything down with spray on water proofing.
- Over a long haul, a magnetic tank bag will drive you nuts and mark up your tank.
Lots of coats of wax will help protect your bike from the effects of a tank bag.
Gordon861 08-14-2007, 10:06 AM I've had one of these tank bags for the last two years (http://www.oxprod.com/index.php?pg=3&action=dept&id=16&pid=2&p=)
I've also got a set of their Sports Panniers which are about 8 years old and still good, although don't use them as much as the tank bag.
Not sure if they're available in the US though.
ghostrider 08-14-2007, 02:22 PM I have the Oxford tailbag (same as the tank bag but a different zip on base). My local Honda dealer stocks them and the panniers as well.
