I picked up a battery tender Jr (http://batterytender.com/product_info.php?products_id=4&osCsid=2c564ea524b4e7fd2e6ef10705418919) and hooked it up.
So is it even worth a writeup? Well, kinda.
Tip #1
If you buy the one above, you do not need to purchase quick connect separately. In my bike shop, they had a couple of different choices, and they also sold the quick connect separately, so I kinda assumed it wasn't already in the package. Long story short, I have to return the extra one - or maybe I'll keep it for my next bike 8)
Tip #2
I was charging a d-e-a-d battery. When you look at the instructions, you see that there is a led light are 4 states.
- (blink red) not charging or fault,
- (solid red) charging,
- (green)charged,
- (blink green) ??? can't remember.
When I hooked everything up I could only get the fault state. There is a <3v safety cut-off where the tender won't charge if it reads the voltage on the battery to be less than 3v. What the hell? This thing is going to do me no good.
I went ahead and left it all hooked up over night - and at some point it did go from "blink red" (fault) to "solid red" (charging). Then it took about 24h to fully charge (green). So, the tip is that if the battery is dead, it may not charge - but there is no harm leaving it hooked up, you'll probably get lucky.
Why not bump start it?
Well, for me I didn't have a good area to do it, but if you do, have at it.
Why not jump start it?
There seems to be some varied opinion whether this is a good idea or not. It was discussed here (http://www.honda599.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1180) a little.
