His latest video. Needless to say, this isn't work safe.

Whether you love this guy or love to hate him, you have to agree that he's brilliant at what he does. With every album he morphs into someone else. Granted, the sound of this song is VERY reminiscent of "Mechanical Animals".
yeroC 06-15-2007, 03:23 PM Alrighty then.
Manson is Ok. Sometimes i bore with the theatrics. But it's a decent
song.
02KBGT 06-15-2007, 03:55 PM So you Like Manson, Do you Alex? I must admit. I'm a big fan of that type of music... Love some of Manson's stuff..Also a big fan of Rob Zombie and his Brother..
Saw him live for the "Mechanical Animals" tour. Great show. He's touring now... I'm hoping I'll be able to catch him this year. We'll see.
02KBGT 06-15-2007, 04:08 PM Good Luck.Let me know if you get to go..I'd love to go to one of his shows..Zombie's too
MotoGPFan26 06-16-2007, 08:28 AM I agree with Alex...the song is VERY reminiscent of Mechanical Animals.
Like Yero, I bore with the theatrics sometimes in his videos. I do not bore with his live theatrics.
In any case, there is no denying that Manson is a musical genius. Love this song....
02KBGT 06-16-2007, 09:04 AM I agree, Deff a genius. I remember the first time I heard " The Beautiful People" and "Fight Song"....Love that stuff.. Its a good thing I dont have speakers in my helmet yet. I'd be pushing the hornet alot further than I need to at this point..

No worries. Get an ipod or MP3 player and some earbuds. Be careful though...you will push the hornet further while listening to Marilyn Manson, TOOL, Disturbed, stuff like that. I love to put Marilyn Manson or Disturbed on and go riding...
Most of my tales of speeding a bit too fast have come while listening to Manson or Disturbed...
02KBGT 06-16-2007, 12:56 PM Yep. Its a "Sickness" :D
Not brilliant at all, just a freak. :barf
MotoGPFan26 06-28-2007, 07:52 AM Not brilliant at all, just a freak. :barf
You live in East Tenn...you can't appreciate Manson because I imagine your head has been clouded with all the hillbilly redneck music like Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson.
Open your mind man...
Coming from someone who IS a musician...I assure you that whether you like Marilyn Manson or not...he is a BRILLIANT musician.
rndthought 06-28-2007, 08:32 AM ...your head has been clouded with all the hillbilly redneck music like Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson.

Looks like someone else does too
I love Country...old school more than new like Parton, Willie and Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Hank Sr., Cash, Pride, Jones, Waylon, Tammy Wynette, Kristofferson, Linda Ronstadt, Merle, Jones...et la...
Some of the newer I enjoy are: Clint Black, Reba, Strait, Randy Travis, Toby, Dixie Chicks and even into Bluegrass, Folk, Country Rock and Southern Rock...
Manson...there are some things he does that I like but for the most part I find it shock for shock's sake...as for him being a "freak"...well, it is his schtick isn't it?
(Total props though for being married to Dita... ...how do you screw that up  )
Not brilliant at all, just a freak. :barf

Actually Knoxville, which is no more hillbilly than Greenville, NC I can assure. I don't listen to Dolly or Willy.
My mind and eyes are open enough to see what what is presented. Also, I do recall that several school shooters idolized Manson.
TONY MK4 06-28-2007, 09:01 AM I listen to a lot of different types of music but Manson is someone that I've given a shot several times and just can't see the appeal. Assuming he doesn't like manson because he listens to country is just as closed minded as writing him off as a freak.
Manson was in several different bands before changing his name and going with the Manson show. None of them were successful - although they were much more unique. He's made it clear that this started completely for shock value as a way to break into the industry. Selling out before you've even made it...
As for him being a musical genius, that may or may not be true. He shows very little talent in the music he's doing now. The progressions are cliche, the voice is ridiculous to match the over-the-top persona he's going for, and he's always flat when he tries to hit any real notes with his voice.
Musically, he's a joke. But his whole deal is attempting to tune into a specific demographic and he does do that well. So as a musician - boring, as a businessman - smart.

Good points. My reference to "freak" was in regards to the image he projects. Most of you have agreed that shock value is his strong point. So, if my perception of shock is "freakish", and that sells, then perhaps he is a brilliant marketer. I can't really see him in a regular role, however.
Boy George and PeeWee Herman were also successful in the manner. I think they are freakish as well.
Marilyn Manson is a household name... to accomplish that in the world of uber-competitive music industry... let's just say being "boring" is not what got him there.
Let's (please) leave personal stabs out of this conversation. Everyone has a different taste, let's try to respect that. On another note...
My mind and eyes are open enough to see what what is presented. Also, I do recall that several school shooters idolized Manson.
If I recall, the goth/industrial community got burned for those two idiots shooting up a school because the clueless media mixed up 10 different sub-cultures and called it "goth". Just because those two morons dressed in black, wore black clothes, and listened to Rammstein (not a goth band either, by the way) doesn't make them goth. Beyond that... I used to love listening to Rammstein, and Manson, AND lots of actual goth bands not known to the commercial industry, yet I was never confrontational, never touched drugs, and never had the desire to shoot up a school! To blame their violent behavior on a band, even a band like Marylin Manson, is absolutely ABSURD.
How about we look at the culture that surrounded them? How about we look at their parents? How about we look at the children AND parents of the children that made these two into violent freaks! They didn't do this because the likes of Marilyn Maonson told them to go out and shoot people in their songs. (This just reminded me of when Ozzy Ozborne was sued because some kid killed himself and the parents blamed "Suicide Solution" [an anti-suicide song!!!] for his death! It's rediculous! People should take responsibility for their own actions once in a while.)
Here's some perspective from the other side. Voltaire, the guy being interviewed, is a goth musician that has been a part of NYC goth scene for at least 10 years now. Here's his interview with Fox News.

I think you took my post a bit too seriously. It was meant as a joke. On any given day in my house, my car, my ipod, you will hear contemporary country music playing as well as many many many other genres. I apologize if the attempt at humor was poor.

He's made it clear that this started completely for shock value as a way to break into the industry. Selling out before you've even made it...
Many if not most successful bands lasting as long as Manson has or longer do go through several bands and/or band members before "making the big time." That's not a bad thing. As for Manson "selling out" because he decided to use shock value to his advantage...it's a matter of personal opinion. But if I may reference the rest of your post, I would say it was more a business savvy decision than "selling out." YMMV.
As for him being a musical genius, that may or may not be true. He shows very little talent in the music he's doing now. The progressions are cliche, the voice is ridiculous to match the over-the-top persona he's going for, and he's always flat when he tries to hit any real notes with his voice.

I will agree that Manson's more recent work is not on the same level as his earlier stuff. It's a part of musical evolution. Right about now in Manson's timeline is where bands fade away or show they can stay the long haul. I don't think his progressions have ever been about being the biggest and most diverse. Manson is not trying to be Roger Waters or Jimmy Page. Manson is more focused on the entire arrangement and how each piece fits together. Sorry, but the way he pieces his music together is quite genius. Again, I've never said he was on the same level as Roger Waters/David Gilmour, Page, Pete Townsend, etc.
Manson's music has it's place. When you look at what he produces compared to the rest of the musician's in his genre...he does stand out...IMHO.
As for school shooters/Manson correlation. I'm not getting in to that. I understand the dynamics there. School shooters/Marilyn Manson is not synonymous. It reminds me of the "satan worshipping" music and "back masking" issues in the late 80's propagated by the stupid religious fundamentalists.
Manson's music would have an appeal to those who suffer from various forms of psychosis/psychoses. His lyrics deal with a lot of topics and symbolisms that the "psychotic" (I use this term loosely, not in a strict diagnostic sense) are infatuated with. This doesn't correlate Manson with school shooters or those with mental illness. The mental screw ups are still mental screw ups. Manson is still a musician.
Of course, everyone has their own opinion about things like this. I'm a Manson fan so naturally I'm a bit biased. You quite obviously don't care much for him, that makes you a bit biased too. 8)
TONY MK4 06-28-2007, 10:39 AM I was just giving my opinion. I'm not really a fan - but I see what it is.
02KBGT 06-28-2007, 04:30 PM I think your all Nuts lol... It music People MUSIC.... It cant make anyone do anything.....Any of it.. IMO
Although I do love to thow in Fight song and ring out the bike on occasion  ...
As far as the shooting thing goes, someone has already given the answer to that ... MEDIA. we Americans are perfectly happy to sit on our ass and be spoon fed a bunch of BullShit about something and then we're stupid enough as a collective group to believe it, Completely.. without giving it a second thought as to whether its true or not... The fact of it is, NOBODY knows exactly why people do some of the stupid crap they do and we're very quick to blame the first thing we come across in their lives that is viewed as "Negative" by the mainstream... Like Manson  ..
I'm with Alex on this one, We better be looking at their Environmet to see what causes these things to happen... not whats in the MP3 player...
and just for the record, I listen to all the country stars, Pop, Top 40, Hip-Hop, classical, etc., etc., Pretty much everything..
yeroC 06-29-2007, 02:33 PM I hear ya Jawbreak... this is good stuff you guys. However i just dont
believe that music MAKES one do anything. A weak minded or weak
willed person may allow themselves to become enchanted or semi-
hypnotized by the words and/or vibration of the music, but ultimately
one makes a conscious decision and effort to do dumb shite.
yeroC 06-29-2007, 02:36 PM Damn! When did this site start censoring expletives?? Oh well, fug it...
I guess there are some young 'uns round these parts now!?!

Interesting eh? Someone in favor of Marylin Manson censoring words like shit  Not meant to offend anyone... just an experiment in hopes to keep the site clean. We'll see how it goes.
yeroC 06-29-2007, 02:43 PM No worries bro...you're the boss!!

02KBGT 06-29-2007, 03:03 PM We better get rid of all that :D
yeroC 06-29-2007, 03:08 PM
I really didn't mind the censors. So if you change your mind it's all gravy. 8)
02KBGT 06-29-2007, 03:12 PM LMFAO Thats awesome.... I Like the software Alex :thumbsup
cesu pro 08-27-2007, 06:26 PM on the topic of selling out....
i quote Tool (or, maynard james keenan to be specific):
"All you know about me is what I've sold you,
Dumb f*ck.
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.
I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip shit,
And you bought one.
All you read and
Wear or see and
Hear on TV
Is a product
Begging for your
Fatass dirty
Dollar
So...Shut up and
Buy my new record
Send more money"
basically, everyone you hear on the radio has already sold out. so that argument is a moot point.
as far as manson goes... his stuff is getting a little old. disposable teens was a re-hash of the beautiful people. i think he's gone downhill since mechanical animals, which might be my favorite album. as far as 'musical genius' i don't know if i'd go that far, but he definitely innovated musical genres and theatre and everything all together into an entertaining, for lack of a better term, freak show.
Here is my $.02
Convertables are for 16 year old girls....
I refuse to honor men whom wear make-up ... "artist" or not...
Red interior is for old ladies...
and last but not least ... WTF is with kids these days .... I'm only 23, and I feel like a damned old man already.
