this morning i was getting ready to ride to work, pulled the bike out into the driveway and started it up. i went back into the garage to gear up and as soon as i zipped up my jacket "CRASH!" i looked out to see the bike fell over on its left side. this is my first bike and i was devastated. then i thought, hey i got sliders it should be okay. i righted the bike back onto its kickstand which must have slipped causing the fall. i started the bike up in 2 tries and it ran well. as i examined the damage i found; one bent but functional gear shifter, and one scraped up left rear tail piece. i touched the rear fender body work, small tabs and pieces fell out and the whole piece became loose. NOOOOOooooo my baby is damaged.

i just wanted to share my sad experience this morning. now i have to find those parts for cheap. I dont want to really make a claim through insurance, but my deductible is only $300.

...one bent but functional gear shifter, and one scraped up left rear tail piece..

Did you have it parked on a hill or soft ground? :thinking

The shifter...just bend it back. Won't be the last time  (Hay, we all bend a shifter or brake lever now and then...)

Tail piece... how bad is it...?

id say its pretty bad. there are several broken tabs where the cowl hooks into on the black undertail piece. the cowl itself its also heavily scratched. i suppose i could live with a scratch, but if the tabs are busted i dont think it will hold up at speed.
my driveway is concrete, and its got a pitch of < 10 degrees.

That sucks dude. I wouldn't claim it on your insurance though. It might save you a few bucks now, but if your rates went up it would cost you more in the long run.

I don't think there's a motorcyclist out there who hasn't eventually dropped his (or her) bike at one time or another. Chalk it up as a lesson learned and keep a close eye on e-bay!

That black tail might look cool ...

Yellow tank and fender with black seat tail and rear fender.

Frame sliders are the only option I have added to mine.
From what you described, your engine and tank didn't take a hit so I guess they did the job.

Pretty gutwrenching to see your baby on her side all vulnerable and
hurt, i'm sure. At least you weren't on it when it went over.
That black tail might be cool looking. I think all you guys should try

i took at look at the damage tonight... i was able to straighten out the shifter.
as for the busted cowl/tail piece. the front tab where its bolted to the frame is where it snapped. i was able to zip tie it and looks like it will definitely hold until i get it replaced. thanks for the help finding the black tail, i might get that. i am a little tight on finances at the moment so the bike comes second to bills etc.
