View Full Version : Ride to Work Day- July 18th biking4jesus 07-03-2007, 08:06 AM www.ridetowork.org/ (http://www.ridetowork.org/) antihero 07-03-2007, 10:51 AM Thankfully I have a job I can ride to work every day. Unfortunately it puts lots of miles on the bike but at least I'm enjoying every minute of it. :) JHenley17 07-03-2007, 11:18 AM I'd love to participate, but I'm missing one vital ingredient... yeroC 07-03-2007, 01:34 PM You jobless bum!!!  G00se 07-03-2007, 01:45 PM I'll be on vacation  Sev 07-03-2007, 08:03 PM I thought that every day without ice was ride to work day? Anyone who thinks otherwise is a wuss, HAHA. vthoky 07-03-2007, 08:51 PM Unfortunately it puts lots of miles on the bike :) ... but isn't that the point of having a bike we love? :? tx_metabaron 07-04-2007, 10:02 PM I'm not sure how to ride with a suit on ? Any Suggestion :? JHenley17 07-04-2007, 10:53 PM Do like Beast does with his X-men uniform... just rip it where it doesn't fit... sloan 07-05-2007, 06:47 AM I'm not sure how to ride with a suit on ? Any Suggestion :? Take an extra change of clothes to work the day before. rndthought 07-05-2007, 06:58 AM Just tuck your tie in to your shirt pocket  tx_metabaron 07-05-2007, 07:02 AM I'm not sure how to ride with a suit on ? Any Suggestion :? Take an extra change of clothes to work the day before. Hey,simple yet effective! I like it. I shall try this, thanks! :D 02KBGT 07-05-2007, 07:25 AM I wear all my garb in every day.. Just get you a descent backpack or tank/tail bag for your shoes, tie, etc,.. and then put some overpants and a jacket on over your pants and shirt/jacket.. It works out pretty well for me. and on the way home, you can either change and just wear the essentials, throwing the rest in your backpack/bags, or wear it all home..although wearing all home can get really warm. there is an engineer I work with that we joke around about because every day at about 4:30 or so he gets in his little office space and gets naked lol..has to change back to his riding gear.. I've done it to.. talk about an Ice breaker with the office chicks  . Works pretty well.. Occasionally the guys will send a new office girl over when they know I'm changing.. Kinda hard to explain that to the boss...But it never fails.. :D tomacana 07-10-2007, 03:09 PM I'm retired. I have to ride away from work. :) rndthought 07-10-2007, 03:32 PM I'm retired. I have to ride away from work. :) Damn you.  :?: When does it cool down up there... 02KBGT 07-10-2007, 03:51 PM Compared to where you are, It is cool... But to answer your question, around the middle of Septemder it starts to cool off at night. And the September / October change is perfect usually.. The Colors in the Mountains are incredible during the fall.. Some better than others, but its always pretty in the fall.. vthoky 07-10-2007, 07:39 PM Compared to where you are, It is cool... But to answer your question, around the middle of Septemder it starts to cool off at night. And the September / October change is perfect usually.. The Colors in the Mountains are incredible during the fall.. Some better than others, but its always pretty in the fall.. Yeah! What he said! I'm retired. And good for you, Tom! :D My parents have recently tapped into the idea that that some people retire from things, and others retire to things. (Which did you do :?: ) rndthought 07-11-2007, 09:19 AM 96F for a high 40% chance of rain this afternoon: "Real Feel" is 106F  (if it wasn't for A/C this state would be empty) Taking off from a light feels sooooo good, God bless evaporative cooling. I loose 3 pounds just riding home! And Tom isn't retired...he just traded for a bunch of new jobs - less pay but better bennifts  Among many is TN/NC tour guide, gracious host and professional taunter :thumbsup vthoky 07-11-2007, 05:05 PM Tom's new job sounds like fun -- can we apply too? :D Super Sneaky Steve 07-11-2007, 07:46 PM Everyday when there isn't rain is ride to work day for me. It's a bit of a pain in the butt sometimes. In the morning it's cool and I have my fancy pants on so I wear an overpant. In my backpack I take jeans because it will be too hot to wear the overpant home. So I have to change my pants in a small smelly restroom. Which sucks, but it's worth it. When it gets cold I just plug in my electric gloves and add a few layers. I really really like my gloves. tomacana 07-11-2007, 08:33 PM I retired, plane and simple but I soon thereafter bought a used Honda cruiser and than my retirement has been on the up-swing. Of course, it was not long before I felt I needed a 1-Up bike. Looked at a KLR550 and SV650, then I found a 04 used Hornet with 800 miles and for the price of $4500. Couldn't let that go. :P Tennessee roads, a Hornet, time to burn, I can't keep tires on my bikes. rndthought 07-12-2007, 08:21 AM ...Tennessee roads, a Hornet, time to burn, I can't keep tires on my bikes. You just can't let it go, can you... :P 02KBGT 07-12-2007, 04:08 PM rnd my friend. You are gonna have to get the Road Envy under control.. Maybe we can get you in a 12 step program or something..  vthoky 07-12-2007, 06:11 PM Tennessee roads, a Hornet, time to burn, I can't keep tires on my bikes. In the best Foghorn Leghorn voice I can conjure up: "Green, I say, green I am, with that old envy thing." biking4jesus 07-18-2007, 08:35 PM well did you all see an increase turnout of riders today? i actually saw fewer than i normally do. sad. i look forward to it next year. 02KBGT 07-19-2007, 04:51 AM same here. It was sorta "Dead" in the bike world as far as I could tell.. I rode though.. I've got to the point that I dont even look at the weather in the morning any more.. I just throw on my gear and head out.. So far I've only headed to work in the rain 3 times...Not bad though. My regular gear is rain gear to an extent, and I have my Toggs. the rest of the time it all stays in my bags.. yeroC 07-19-2007, 05:42 AM I actually saw more riders this morning than i did all day yesterday :idonno Maybe they all thought today was Ride to Work day. :D jmd 07-19-2007, 11:06 AM I never even heard about 'ride to work day' until today...but i'm proud to say that i did ride to work, as i have been for the past week or so. (Saves me about $3/hr over driving the car.) Did see quite a few bikes out though...although i've been seeing quite a few randomly throughout the week, so it's hard to know if this was the cause or not... Alex 07-19-2007, 11:29 AM Everyday is ride to work day. :D Interestingly enough, it started raining (for the first time this entire summer!) midway through my commute. hook 07-19-2007, 03:33 PM I rode to work yesterday it was about 92 with 60% humidity. I stashed my tie in my pocket. When I got to work and took off my jacket I looked like I'd been hit with a bucket of water. The ride home at 10:00 pm was nice. vthoky 07-19-2007, 05:31 PM I rode! (Actually forgot it was Ride to Work Day, though....) The two-wheeel count in our parking lot was a little slim, however. On the fun side, I do get to poke at the colleague who owns two motorcycles about riding neither of them to work. antihero 07-20-2007, 06:48 AM Haha... I own two bikes and I rode them both into work... at the same time. That's skill. 8) | |
