View Full Version : How do you say "599"?
femaletrouble3 07-31-2007, 02:04 PM All,
I'm curious: when referring to your bike verbally, do you say:
"Five Ninety-Nine"
or
"Five Nine Nine"
Poll above :)

rndthought 07-31-2007, 04:51 PM "I ride a CB600 Hornet AKA 5-9-9...the yellow one...no the other yellow one...by the tree...yes, behind all the Gixers, CBRs and...what...yeah it is a newer bike but it isn't a CBR, no plastics or clip-ons...no it's not like a SV650, well kinda but it is an inline 4...it's just different, look dude can I just get a large fry and a coke...thanks..."
Sometimes the words change slightly but not by much. I start with the CB thing because most everyone should know it as a Honda and also then maybe know other CB's and have a general idea what the bike is about.
vthoky 07-31-2007, 06:30 PM Hey, FT3. I did notice that Jeremy over at the Honda store calls them "Five Ninety-Nine" and "Nine Nineteen."
It's still Five Nine Nine to me... what about you?
Five Nine Nine, and as long as we're going there, Nine Nineteen.

Well, when I try to say "599", one side of my brain says: "Say 'Five Ninety Nine'!" and the other half says "Say 'Five Nine Nine'!" then I get a confused look on my face and blurt one one OR the other. :thinking
I plan on using the results of the poll to convince/train myself to say it one way or the other with some regularity :D

Bacdef 07-31-2007, 08:47 PM I'm with the five-nine-nine crowd, although what I actually say is cinq-neuf-neuf.
Like drew, I use the nine-nineteen moniker so therefore neuf-dix-neuf.
Five
Nine

anyone else is wrong.
dabinche 07-31-2007, 09:36 PM I say 599 as five nine nine but always refer to it as a cb600
Folks ask what it is or what I ride I say cb600

I say "Hornet."
Eat me.
I say five nine nine, too.
djamalt 07-31-2007, 11:30 PM Depends on the day. Sometimes Hornet, sometimes five ninety-nine. But I like the CB600 answer. It would eliminate a bunch of questions I get off the bat.
gvucko 08-01-2007, 01:54 AM There is no problem in EU: Hornet 600 or Hornet 900.

Hey, Sev, you made me think of SNL's Subliminal Man there...
It is fun to toy with people and tell 'em it's a Hornet... if I've got time to explain afterwards. :D I wonder now if it'll be more fun to try the whole cinq-neuf-neuf thing. Eh... maybe.
I used to say "five-nine-nine" but that seemed kind of unnatural. I mean, if it was a 650 I wouldn't say "six-five-zero." Now I usually say "five ninety-nine."
rndthought 08-01-2007, 12:04 PM ...I can't believe I just answered this question. I have got to get a life.
I'm pretty sure I should feel insulted...

OK, I edited my post. Don't want to offend anyone.
rndthought 08-01-2007, 03:20 PM Man, I have GOT to get a life too... Dave, maybe we can form a support group.

Yeah, that reminds me, what ever happened to J-Nuine, the mod addict? Haven't seen him around here lately. I wonder if he's in rehab.
EgoThreat 08-01-2007, 08:00 PM One more vote for five nine nine :D
C-
cfcats 08-03-2007, 12:13 PM My vote:
I say "five ninety nine"....and when I get a blank stare...I say "Honda Hornet" which sometimes registers....if that still doesn't work, I take out my blackberry and show a photo.....
tomacana 08-04-2007, 12:34 PM I think I confuse everyone by referring to my 'Niner', then the going the five ninety nine and then the Hornet.
I actually call mine "the red one" :D
I just don't have the patience to try and explain it...
JHenley17 08-10-2007, 04:14 PM I used CB600 the other day and successfully avoided the usual barrage of questions... I think I'm just going to do that from now on...
