The September issue of Sport Rider Magazine has a comparo of 6 "new school" naked liter-bikes. Included are the Kawasaki Z1000 (mechanic77's new baby!), Aprilia Tuono R, KTM Super Duke, MV Augusta Brutale 910R, Yamaha FZ1, and Ducati Monster S4R.

At the end of the article is a side bar describing the different types of naked motorcycles. Basically classifying different naked's by having tiny windshields, full upper fairings, belly pans, etc. It starts the classifications with:

Stark Naked

"For the always-popular streetfighter look, this is the way to go. Look for a big headlight up front and not much else in the way of wind protection for a long trip. These bikes are better suited for city riding or twisties that are close to home -- the freeway is not much fun without a fairing. Of all the bikes in this test, the MV Augusta Brutale fits here."

It then shows a picture of a guy doing a sweet one handed wheelie on a 919, and adds this:

"Honda's still-available 919 packs a fun punch and is typical of the liter-sized (or thereabouts) standards. A leftover sportbike motor combines with budget running gear for okay performance but loads of fun."
