Some Honda stuff. No word on the 08 599/919's yet.

One bike of interest is the new GSX650F. It's a smaller faired bandit. The B-King is cool too but for $13K it will remain a dream for me.

I've seen spy shots of the R1 and CBR1000 both look like butt.

If anyone gets more news please post.

The price of the Bking is absolutely insane. Seems like a "Well, we tried! The American market just doesn't appreciate nakeds!" kind of move. More expensive than the Busa? Eh. Yes, it uses many of the same components, but STILL.

JHenley17

There was nowhere near the development put into the B-king as there was in the 'Busa. The B-king is mostly Busa parts with different styling, so it should just help to offset the cost of developing the Busa. I really don't understand the price, either.

Grind out what they are charging for it in Euros and I think you'll find out it is cheap here...either way just look at it, if 12-15k was pocket change to me I'd have one in a minute...don't think it's that over priced.

I got the price from the offical Suzuki website.

http://www.suzukicycles.com/Products/GSX1300BKK8/Default.aspx

I'm sure the bike is worth it, but it doesn't make sense that it cost more than a Busa. I'd rather just get the busa, mount some risers and strip the ugly fairing.

it cost more to make all the expose parts on a naked to look nice then is does to cover up ugly parts with plastic

JHenley17
09-06-2007, 12:39 PM
Exactly... it's not really that I find the price that unreasonable, but it shouldn't be more than the Hayabusa.

I just noticed the nearly-straight handlebars... sweeet...

At the price, though, would you want the bad-ass factor and straight-line speed of the B-king or would you want the all-around nastiness of the 'Duke?

Transient
09-06-2007, 02:44 PM
Duke in a heartbeat.

In the UK it lists the B-king at 9,000 British Pounds (http://www.suzuki-gb.co.uk/bike/bking/) = $18k usd BEFORE their VAT. It's a hard concept for most Americans to grasp, but almost everything is cheaper here in the States... We're supremely spoiled. It’s all relative but still...

...it shouldn't be more than the Hayabusa.
There isn't...ummm...a nickel’s worth of difference in price there... :tomato :run

And I'm guessing your comment wasn't really to indicate that if they raised the price for the Hayabusa it would be better... Either Suzuki thinks the market will pay a premium for the B-King or they feel they must sell the Hayabusa at a discount...depending on how you'd like look at it.

What are the B-King’s direct competitors and their prices?

JHenley17
09-06-2007, 03:49 PM
What do you classify it as? Personally, if I wanted a 'Busa, that's the only bike I'd be looking at. It's bigger, longer, and heavier than 1000s, basically can only beat other bikes in straight-line speed. I'd expect the same for the B-king. But, like my 599, it's probably a nice bike to ride around on...

oh em gee... orange CBR = sex. I've been wanting to make mine orange... The Graffiti is nice, too... just kind of not-cool to me to get a custom-looking paintjob from the factory... doesn't make it very unique.

That orange CBR is a beauty.

I'm so f---ing sick of graffiti. The little gangstas in my neighborhood are putting it on trees now. I don't think Honda should use that word.

I like the Big Red. Looks like it would make a good golf cart.

At least you probably don't live around a bunch of rednecks who just paint stuff like "THS 09!" Whoa... you reprezzent, class of 09... hold down the backroads...

I actually like the style of the lettering at the bottom, but it's the whole "factory custom paint-job" thing (at least that's what I call it) that doesn't really impress me. I think they had a tribal design in 05, too. It looked good, but it looked like it wanted to be unique when it wasn't.

I really like the CBR magazine ads... I would maybe use that for inspiration if I owned one and had the money for it...

There are not enough "x'" in the word "suxxxxxx" to describe Honda's US lineup. I go to the Canadian, UK, and Australian Honda Motorcycle websites and just hang my head. Where the hell are the good bikes? The CB1300 is a tremendous street Torquemonster. The CBR125 would be a great commuter and around town bike. The Deuville is the ST1300 without the autobahn speed and 1300cc heat. I also keep up on the scooters and Honda has some cool scoots over in the UK. In the US they are selling some really substandard scoots.

No, instead they bring the Hornet over here for a year, promote it like some sort of afterthought, and then when it doesn't sell, they give up!! If your not in the market for a sportbike, cruiser, or Gold Wing, you are simply out of luck. That's a bunch of BS!!! Come on HONDA, WAKE UP!!

I'm with you, Moto...even if you are off topic like mad. The 675 is my favorite looking sportbike. I just cant bring myself to seriously look for one and give up the (relative) comfort of the F4i. The riding position is a killer. But you can get helibars that should help...at least a little bit...

I heard a rumor that there will be a 2008 599. Same as in Europe now.

Also, it's now a confirmed fact (by my secret sources) that there will be a new 919 as well. A few 919 owners in Cali were invited to go see it to give their impressions of styling.

I'll report back after their meeting.

Is that even a question?

New 919 sounds like it could be pretty cool. And I'm in no position to at the moment, but the new 599 would make it hard for me to choose between it and the Street Triple, though I think I'd be looking at the Speed Triple by the time I'm in the position to buy again. Then, the new 919 might have me stuck. I'm really curious...

Here you go as requested. This WAS an official Honda photo. Initial reaction to the bike's style was so bad that it was quickly pulled.

I personally think it looks like butt, but I guess it's what it does that's really important.

I really don't see what all the hype about the new Buell is all about. That front fairing is not attractive to me at all. Make it naked, then Buell will have my attention!

I think it's the best of both naked and faired sportbikes. I really like both, but i think this one takes the naked look and makes it a bit more streamlined/sporty looking with the side scoops...but you can still see a good bit of the engine.

The front fairing isn't attractive in itself, but i like the way it sort of juts forward, giving the bike an aggressive, eager look to it. Take it off and the bike just wouldn't look the same. And for some reason i love the headlights...dunno why.

The thing i like the most about the bike is the short, sculpted tail section. Very clean, but not too understated. I like clean, yet exciting, designs...and this one really does it for me. Maybe partly because it's not just another cookie cutter sportbike design.

I think the new 919 looks better than the new 599. A lot of my opinion is based on both bikes' headlight/cockpit areas. The 2006 599 still looks better than either of them, though.

919 owners in Cali? Why wasn't I invited!?

Yeah, I think the headlight and instrument cluster on this thing looks alot more streamlined than the '07 Hornet 600. The speedometer/tachmeter on the '07 Hornet 600 is kind of an eyesore.

Now they just need to bring this bad boy to the states in asphalt...

But if they ever do decide to bring it over, what are they gonna call it, the 999? Although it sounds pretty baddass, that name's already taken. I guess CB1000F sounds ok...

Well, looks like no 2008 or later 919 in our future, at least here in N. America. Per Motorcycle.com:
919 and CBR600F4i Off The List For 2008

Motorcycle.com learned what may be seen by some as unfortunate news about a staple of the Honda streetbike line. Honda Motorcycle Division Press Manager Jon Row told us that the CBR600F4i isn't in production for 2008. He was quick to point out that the bike isn't necessarily "dropped" from the line-up, explaining that if Honda "has have an overstock of a certain model" they'll simply hold back production rather than spend resources creating "BNG" (bold new graphics) for what is essentially an unchanged model.

But don't hold your breath for a valiant return two years down the road. Asking Row what constitutes a bike truly being dropped from the line-up he said, "Typically, if a bike doesn't reappear after two years it probably won't come back."

That's rather unfortunate for such an excellent and highly refined bike that often garnered year-end awards and rave reviews when it debuted. In a similar vein, the competent but uninspiring 919 is suffering the same fate as the F4i.

Read the full article here (http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/honda/first-look-2008-honda-cbr1000rr-67164.html).
Sadly, but not surprisingly, probably means no 2008 or later 599s either. I guess the full-faired sport bike segment rules N. American sales as far as Honda is concerned. I guess the SV is the ruling budget naked bike in N. America for as long as it wants to be.

On the bright side, our bikes just got even more RARE. Ooooooohhhh…

You know, this really pisses me off. (Not what you said Robo, but the fact.) In Europe they get all the sweet ass naked bikes while we have so few options it's sickening. They keep saying how America is the leader of the world, then how come we get the scraps of what everyone else is getting... and only years after Europe has had it's way with it.

 Sorry... I was really hoping to see that 919 in the dealerships this year.

Me too. At the motorcycle.com article that I linked to, click on the discussion link at the bottom. You'll find that other riders are also sick and bored with Honda's lack of "imagination" when it comes to their line-up. I mean, really, their line-up is getting so thin it's almost transparent. Personally, I think they're shooting themselves in the foot—not just because they're not bringing the 919 or 599 over here, but also the fact that they're playing the waiting game in almost all segments and letting every other manufacturer beat them to the punch.

Kawi's got the Versys, new Ninja 250 (which by the way, looks awesome) and the Z1000 (wish we had the 750 here). Yamaha looks serious about pushing the half-faired FZ-1 & FZ-6. Triumph has there awesome new Street Triple (though I do hate the headlamps). Suzuki has their 2008 GSX650F, which even though it's a full-faired bike, it's at least and expansion on their more "street-friendly real world" bikes that have more comfortable ergos etc, and not just another full track-rocket bike.

So what has Honda got to offer by way of choices? More of the same with improved features, and even less so model-wise.

Seriously, if this trend continues with Honda, my 599 will be my first and last Honda motorcycle. That's not by choice, but rather because of the lack of choices on Honda's part.

Mr. Honda says "You got 599, why so unhappy? Still $ for $ better bike. Grass not always greener, just looks that way. Remember – no matter how pretty she is, someone somewhere is tired of all her shit. And it probably that very shit making grass so green. Get bigger rear sprocket and save your money.
