Hello,

I am new to the 599 Forum. I just got my 2006 Honda 599 3 weeks ago and love it. I bought it Brand new from a dealership at a pretty good price. I used to own a 1990 Honda CB-1 and loved it but wanted more power. Anyways I am checking into getting some mods. I was wondering what is the best looking and best Tank Pad for the 599. I have seen lots of different styles of Tank Pads and I don't know what would work/look best for my bike. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I'd say as long as they cover the areas they need to, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

I was debating about getting a tank pad for my RR, so I started doing some searching in a CBR forum and saw a post that read something like this:

"Why do people have these dumb things on their bikes??? I've been riding for years and have yet to to see a bike with any scratches on that part of the tank, so what's the point?"

I put over 12k miles on my 599 without putting a scratch on it, and now that I've put over 4k on the RR, still no scratches. It got me thinking.....Are they really necessary (functionally, that is)?

I agree with you Darktint, I have been riding my 599 only for about 2500 miles, but my belt buckle is nowhere near the tank. Even then it is under my jacket, which the zipper is hiding underneath the fancy little flap the factory put on. I think it is just another way for people to customize their bike more, if that's the case maybe a good place for a honda599.com tankpad, we'll have to let Alex know.lol.

My 599 has some serious scratches on it after 17,000 miles of use. I'll be ordering some touch-up paint and applying some 3M paint guard from Xpel. All the protection of a tank pad and none of the gaudy appearance!

Ya, I think we are lucky with the paint on the 599/919. I have almost 20,000kms on mine and no scratches.

My buddy's SV650 with only 2000 on it looks awful... he had scratches after his first ride and he has plastic zippers. He has no choice but to get one.

IMO... no need on za Hornet!

The yellow paint used on the 04's is remarkable. It's like it's coated with a diamond coating or something. The paint just doesn't scratch. As far as the black used on the 04 and the black used on 06...I don't know. I bet they don't do as well as the 04 yellow.

HOwever, if you're looking for a pad just for the aesthetics, I would look at the Motografix pads. They have some really cool looking Hornet pads...IMHO.

My 06 got scratches on it and thats what made me get a tank protector.... my jacket , joe rocket , had the zipper protector on it also and my tank still got scuffs and scratches ...... then again I was laying on my tank at a buck-twenty + on a regular basis so maybe that had something to do with it  I have put one on my Z before it got any scratches :thumbsup
