I'm 34 years old. I've been riding street bikes since I was 18. My 2006 599 is my fourth bike. My other three bikes were always older, used motorcycles. I took my first one apart and couldn't put it back together again. It was a 1976 Honda 750. My second bike was a '91 Kawasaki Zephyr 550. It got totaled in a crash. One night, a 14 year-old girl pulled out in front of me in her Grandmaw's caddy. I was dressed for it, though, and didn't hardly get a scratch. I had on studded gloves, jeans, boots, helmet. Did a cartwheel off my head across the highway. Should've sued somebody but I didn't. My third bike was a 1983 Suzuki GS 650 G. I was drunk driving one day on it and rear ended a car at low speed. The bike barely had a few scratches on it, but I got tore up. I was half naked and stuff: boxers only, tank top, shoes but no socks. A helmet was the only thing I bothered to put on. I did a nice swan dive into the asphalt. When everything came to a stop, my foot was still under the bike. So, I couldn't have been going too fast. That was about ten years ago. I sold the 650 last year and bought a 2006 599 in February of this year. I've put 3,000 sober miles on it. I would feel so bad and cry, cry, cry if I ever wrecked it. Shit... I probably just jinxed myself.

Don't drink and ride... ten times worse than drinking and driving... I'd say that would help you out a lot. Other than that, take it easy and enjoy the ride. No need to be stupid with it...

Don't want steal Sachi the Safety Queen's thunder, but don't ride tired either. Sleepiness and/or drunkeness on two wheels is just a bad idea. I'm anti drunk driving at all - so it's a bad idea on four, six, eighteen, whatever, but I'd like to see more of us on the road, so I'm keeing my comments to the 2 wheelers out here.

I'm fighting the temptation, but it's taking over... Are you f**king with us? :wtf

Oh, let's not get too puritan. I'd be willing to bet just about everyone has had a movement of getting home and thinking "Yeah that wasn't too smart."

Just illustrates that "riding" a bike takes no particular skill or talent...it's not crashing it that encompasses most of the technical know-how.

Yes, let's not be too high and mighty as we've all made mistakes. The difference here, though, is that those kinds of mistakes are in the heat of the moment, whereas getting on a bike in an altered state (be it drugs, emotions, or exhaustion) is a premeditated act where you choose to put yourself in a dangerous position from the get go. And there is simply no excuse for that. I only wish that the stupid or irresponsible among us would finally get physically incapacitated to the extent that they are no longer able to ride or drive. Is that too much to ask???

But then again i guess i have a lot to lose. With a wife and baby on the road, i have much less tolerance for stupidity and arrogance than i used to when it was just me, myself, and i. If you have no respect or regard for your own safety, well...i won't either if they're hurt because of you. Don't take away someone else's life just because you don't care about your own. Next time you're feeling stupid go play with guns in your basement and stay off the roads.

I don’t think when drunk, anything is really "premeditated"
Let's not confuse acknowledging something happens(ed) with condoning it. But I agree with your general attitude JMD 100%

Just for the record, ROBKB doesn't ride like that anymore. Actually, I only did it once. Don't hate me.  :(

I'm sorry if I was short, but I've heard too many stories that do not end well. My uncle was hit by a car a year ago and he's in bed right now with metal in his bones and brain damage.

When you get on the road drunk or act stupid on your bike or your car, your life is not the only life you put in danger.

Definitely not cool to drink and drive. Not that I never had a night or 2 when I was younger, that I still can't figure out how I got home. I think most people have had an indiscretion or 2. Just need to thank God no one got hurt, and not repeat the poor judgement of the past.

Now, out in the backyard on my little XR80 (with helmet of course) pulling wheelies and being dumb after a few drinks is a different story... I don't know why, but I think the wheelies come a little easier once you've killed the fear.
