View Full Version : B-Burg/C-Burg Virginia ride
Sundog 09-22-2007, 01:21 AM Ok, so FT3 and vthokie are pretty much confirmed for this Sunday, along with vthokie's VTX buddy. Where are we going? I'm going to leave that planning up to the guys who have lived here for a while. Dave C with the Vstrom would like to go but he has some sort of meeting that day.
Anybody else who lives somewhat close want to get in on this? I'd like it to be an all day sort of thing. Maybe a section of Blue Ridge Parkway?

If you want BR Parkway included, here's my first suggestion:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=1622768398804532219,36.912568,-80.209808%3B14463281403193287353,37.239075,-79.893265&saddr=Blacksburg,+VA+24060&daddr=Blue+Ridge+Pkwy+%4036.912840,+-80.211430+to:Blue+Ridge+Pkwy+%4037.238840,+-79.893160+to:Buchanan,+VA+to:37.55982,-80.034027+to:Blacksburg,+VA+24060&mrcr=3,4&mrsp=4&sz=10&mra=dpe&sll=37.329765,-79.959869&sspn=0.710875,1.2854&ie=UTF8&ll=37.270774,-79.984589&spn=0.711432,1.2854&z=10&om=1
We could meet at the fancy new gas station on Rt. 8 and 81 to save the C-burgers some doubling....
176 mi – about 4 hours 13 mins, but with stops, views, etc it will take a while...

Hey Sundog, I think my first suggestion was a bit long for everyone, here's a shorter alternative ride that lets us hit the very best roads:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=2351779749858685406,37.425798,-80.252380%3B3162321278147470743,37.338500,-80.235901&saddr=blacksburg,+VA&daddr=VA-42+%4037.422930,+-80.256710+to:Sweet+Springs,+WV+to:Newport+Rd+%4037 .339870,+-80.233050+to:37.301368,-80.338898+to:Blacksburg,+VA&mrcr=3,4&mrsp=4&sz=11&mra=dpe&sll=37.396892,-80.246887&sspn=0.383488,0.6427&ie=UTF8&z=11&om=1

vthoky 09-22-2007, 05:21 PM Do we have a time in mind yet? Say... maybe 9, 10 o'clock? (-ish? :D )
Thanks, FT3 for the loop revision... Mrs Vthoky has a work list for me. (An ambitious one, she is!)

How about 9:30ish at the Volume II Bookstore parking lot (where we met last)?
Sundog, the one in University Mall, I'm sure you know that already :)

vthoky 09-22-2007, 06:30 PM Just spoke with VTX-Man... he's a tentative for the morning. I'll hear from him again around 9. I'll plan on being at Volume II 9:30-ish.
The weather forecast looks great, and the tank is full.
Sundog 09-22-2007, 09:55 PM Sorry, I was caving all day at Newberry.
Plan 2 is fine. I'll be at volume II at 9:30.
If we run out of route before we run out of time, it's easy enough to find new twisties around these parts.
vthoky 09-23-2007, 07:49 PM Hey, guys, this was a good ride. Thanks for setting it up. I'll fish out pictures shortly.
BTW, I just cranked out today's numbers. I put in 1.8 gallons when we stopped at Paint Bank. Calculated with the miles it took to get there, plus a few I put on that tankful yesterday, it looks like I ran at just a hair under 53mpg. Wow!
Just a couple of minutes' worth of surfing brings this link (http://www.westvirginiaghosthunters.com/sweetsprings.html) to the building we saw at Sweet Springs.
Sundog 09-24-2007, 04:22 PM Wow - that place has more history that I could have possibly imagined. It looked much more ruined than those pictures show. Maybe we looked at the wrong side of the building. Now I wish I had taken pictures.
Here are a couple of my trip photos:

Yes, that place is very cool. I ridden past it many times and have always wanted to check it out further. Here is another good link: http://www.vtunderground.com/other/sweetsprings/sweetsprings.htm
Nice pics you took!
