I have put a LOT of miles on my bike this year and yet I haven't actually gone for a stress relieving day long ride all year, well, unless you count riding the 150cc scooter around Lake Erie for charity.

Anyway, I spent the day riding ALL over central and western Ohio. I stopped for coffee here, ate a hamburger there, and finally started heading home. The whole time, I was running at over the legal limit when out in the country, usually at an indicated 70-75MPH. Now when I go into towns, I know the town cops are there ready to get revenue so I slow down.

I went into a small town following a pickup truck. The speed limit was 35 but, honestly, all I was paying attention to was behind me, in front of me, and around me. I looked in the mirror and about three or four blocks back was a cop with his lights on. I pulled over. He pulled up behind.

He came up and told me that he needed to see my license, registration, and insurance. My insurance and registration were under the seat, but I didnt' get off of the bike. I handed him my license. At this point, even with a full face helmet and sunglasses, he could see that I was older (I just turned 39 in July). I asked him what was up and he said he saw me "touch" 45MPH in a 35MPH zone. I told him him that if I did, then the truck and car in front of me did as well. I told him I was paying attention to everything around me but and not looking at my speedo. I told him when I am behind a vehicle that I cant' see around I don't even look at my speedo as there are more important things to keep an eye out for.

He said "Yeah, those bikes are hard to see and you have to be safe, I guess." I told him "that's why I wear bright colored helmet and jacket, armored riding pants, boots, and gloves." I was wearing all of my gear to include my obnoxious yellow helmet and jacket. At this time he took pause and noticed my birthday on the license. "Ever had a ticket or accident on your bike?" I told the officer "I have been riding for almost 20 years and I haven't yet."

He handed my license back and told me to have a nice day.

I had nearly the same experience one night. Age 41, fully geared,"M" classification on the license, no tickets, valid registration and insurance card in hand. Got off with a warning.

Speed measured 68 in a 55. I had pulled out onto a main road in the dark. No immediate traffic, so I wound 1st, wound 2nd, braked hard and turned into my neighborhood. Mistake. An officer farther up the road saw my headlight go up and assumed I had wheelied. I'm just glad I braked before the radar gun got me. 88 mph probably wouldn't have turned out so well.

39? Old?
 :D :) :? :( :x :P What’s the alternative to “getting old”?

Getting planted!

Officers of the peace...generally enjoy pleasant, honest conversations. I've managed to get many a "warning"...

You just got a kid,so wait a few months( and a few of these 3hours sleep nights) and you'll see the years suddenly starting piling up ;)

As Bill Cosby says to his children, while pointing at his grey hair: "You're responsible for this!! Do you think it was like this before you came along?!?" ;)
