Hi All,
I'm taking the Hornet to the track Oct 6th!!!

Anyone else thinking of going?

Details here: www.hotlapevents.com

Would be wicked awesome to see other Hornets out there stuffing the "faster" bikes into some corners :)

Very intriguing Pepper. Just finished reading the rules and regs. Do you typically ride to these track day events or do you trailer? Assuming that you ride, I gather all of the bike prep work is done at the track, less the coolant swap? How do you typically handle this -- a tank bag full of tools and tape?

I would LOVE to go but both the bike and equipment regs have me out on this one.

599Toronto... I am still in for FAST in the spring!

Prudence says trailer it. If the bike has issues or you go down... it's nice to have a ride home. Plus you are gonna be really tired (and happy) at the end of the day.

Do all the prep the night before. I wouldn't bother with the coolant thing. Gaff tape works best for taping up (plus it comes in lots of colors so you can color match or contrast your ride Whoot!). In any event, you'll want a cloth tape that will be easy to remove after you ride.

If you don't know what Gaff tape is or can't find it...shoot me a PM.

This is what we sell and I can hook my 'bradas up!

I'm trailering there... Can post up and find you a spot if you need one. It's pretty tiring, even when you take it easy.

My bike is being prepped for me so I don't know all those details (a great thing about being a girl :P ) It'll be all taped up with painters tape.

I'll be in the beginner group taking it easy, not even changing my tires for this one. But come next year on go the sporty tires!!!

I'm just chomping at the bit to get on the track, but with a kid starting college this year it isn't going to happen.

Maybe next summer i can throw on some sticky tires and hit the track once or twice.

Can't begin to tell you how jealous I am. Have a blast and let us know how it went.

if you've never done track day you have no need for slicks because to run them right it takes a while for them to heat up.

most people that ride track take care of this by using tire warmers, but generally speaking only the guys who have been going for a while or are at the intermediate or advanced levels get slicks and tire warmers

a good set of street tires will do just fine, just make sure they are good

you'll also want to adjust the pressure a lot different than you'd ride on the road usually around 30-32 lbs

if the organization you are riding with doesn't offer instruction you'll want to get with the control riders and ask questions and get them to help you

track riding is one of the most fun things you can do, I'm 110% addicted to it, but I also have a track bike that is only for track riding

you'll have to tape up any glass or plastic and some make you drain the coolant and put water in the radiator. people mistakenly think this will cause overheating, it will not, but if you are concerned you can use water wetter.

whate else, oh yeah, you'll have to have full leathers with and a back protector, there are plenty out there, a good set of boots is nice too

some organizations will let you do a beginner class or session without all the gear, but you'll still likely have to have leathers, jacket and pants that zip 360 around are usually fine

it's a lot of fun, but it's a serious thing to do and you need to realize it before you roll a tire on the track

the track organzations I ride most with are Team Pro Motion and NESBA, mostly at VIR (Virginia International Raceway) there are up to 5 courses there

if it's a full on track day you will see wrecks and you could even see someone get hurt, just know what you're getting into

it's an awesome experience and I love it, but just know it's serious

Thanks, we've got something up here called FAST that I've done. It's a long day of track riding lessons. Loved it :)

What's your track bike?

Hello All,

First off, I'm excited to have come across this forum. It looks like another great place to "chat-it-up" with good people! For those that are interested in participating in "THE LAST LAP!" Track Day Event that "Pepper" mentioned at the top of this thread, I thought I would post the following update:

*** UPDATE ***

With less than 2 weeks till inaugural Track Day Event, the excitement is growing here @ the Hot Lap Events camp! We're thrilled @ the ever growing interest in our event and with Mother Nature doing more than her share, with record breaking weather, to inspire people to get out for "just one more" Track Day outting, we're ever more confident of an event to put a smile on all participants. Through all the inquiries we've had, there has been one stand out feedback/input given by almost all in regards to riding groups for Oct 6/07. So to stay true to our commitment to LISTEN and PLEASE our present and future participants, we @ Hot Lap Events would like to announce that we will be running a 3 GROUP RIDING FORMAT FOR "THE LAST LAP!" EVENT ON OCT 6/07, instead of the previously announced 4 group format. Many riders, as they rightfully should, would like to see more riding time and we would love to give it to them, so it was simply a logical adjustment to make. We will now be running BEGINNER, INTERMEDIATE & EXPERT groupings, eliminating the orginal NOVICE group.

** Please note: For all those already Pre-Registered for the NOVICE Group, you will be asked the day of the event during Registration if your preferrence would be to join either the BEGINNER Group or INTERMETIATE Group for the day. **

Thank you to all who have directly or indirectly contributed in helping us with this decision and we sincerely believe that this will improve the overall riding experience @ our event. I would also like to mention that if there are any questions or concerns from anyone already Pre-Registered for the event in regards to this decision, please do not hesitate to contact me (A.J. (416) 710-7750 or info@hotlapevents.com).

One final thing...I would also like to take this opportunity to give a "shout out" and annouce some of the names of racers that will be providing both on and off track help/coaching to all riders, in all groups:

* Rahul Dua * Craig Atkinson * Franz Walker * Grant DeGroot *

Please keep the calls, emails and registrations coming! I enjoy fielding any & all inquires. I will also be attending the final round of the R.A.C.E. Series this weekend at Shannonville. I will be available all day Sat. and most likely Sun. also for any questions or just to meet and "shoot the breeze" with any of you. Although I'll probably be floating around all day, you'll probably find me in and out of the GoloRacing tent in the Pits. Thanks for listening (reading *L*) and again I/we look forward to seeing you on Oct 6/07!

You can also stay up to date on this and all of our upcoming events @ the following link:

http://www.hotlapevents.com/news.html

Thanks to all of your that have expressed your interest in joining us on Oct 6/07! We at the Hot Lap Events Team hope to see you and your guests LAPPING it up @ out Event! Take care.

AJ

my track bike is a 98 GSX-R 600 that's been setup just for track riding

-Vortex 48 rear sproket
-race fairings, rear too
-Penske rear spring
-gold chain
-lap timer
-steerig stablizer
-CFM Woodcraft rear sets
-obviously braided brake lines
-double H race pads
and random other assorted things

it's obviously not street legal, not mirrors, no lights and no signals

I love it, all I have to do it load it up and go

I did one track day on my 599, that I had put a set of Vortex clipons on and decided I wanted to do it often so I found a bike that had already been setup just for track days.

You can find them on track riding organiztions and WERA, CCS and other racing websites. This is actually a good time of year to pick one up, a lot of racers dump their bikes at the end of the year to get another to fixup over the winter.

I just got back from 2 days at VIR-Virginia International Raceway, did the Patriot course on Sun and the North course on Mon. You may recognize the North course at VIR, it's the one the AMA races on, it's one of the best tracks around, has it all.

Track riding is 100% an addiction and I'm hooked. I rarely even ride on the road anymore, I get my kicks in the safe enviroment of track days.

I've been thinking about selling my street bike more and more lately. I have yet to ride during a track day, but I have been to several with friends, and I've got a racers mentality, so I know it would be the hobby I based my life around.

Since I got married and bought my house, I've been riding less and less. 4k miles in the last year and a half. And of course the wife is now talking about kids...

How much would I miss street riding if I sold my current bike and bought a much cheaper 600 and used it strictly for track days? I sure wouldn't miss the payment of the current one, and if it was used just for track days I wouldn't insure the racer.

Hmmmm..... :thinking

Wicked, wicked track day!

I got tons of time in and had a blast. Pics from friends are coming in bit by bit. I'll post up in the photos section when I have an interesting variety.

The Hornet LOVED the track, I'm officially hooked :)

glad to hear you had a good time

you've likely ruined your road riding forever though, such is the price of track riding

I know it's hard for me to ride on the road now, not even remotely the same

Once you get used to putting on the helmet and gloves and going full out it's tough to just putter around on the street

If you're like most you'll have a track only bike before long and be going once a month or so

welcome to the addiction 8)
