Anyone else have this problem?

I live and mostly ride in SF. I have a medium case of RSI and type for a living... sometimes that really makes the shifting a pain in the ass in the city. Not really sure what to do.

It kinda makes me wonder if I should sell my 599 because the clutch is a little tough of a pull. But short of doing that, I wonder, what are my options?

Anyone have experience with this or know of any potential remedies? I kinda need to not have it hurt to clutch a lot (which you do in the city). For instance, could the clutch be converted to a hydraulic clutch? What could be done in general to make it less... effortful to shift?

I have this problem too .... my wrists are all F'ed up from working with air tools and such... my doctor showed me a trick that helps me tremendously ... I will try to explain it to you so you can try.... basically I take a broom stick and hold it out in front of me with both hands horizontally and then without sliding your hands slowly raise the broom up and over your head and try to go back behind your head as far as you can but dont let your hands slide on the broom... you will only be able to go so far but after time you will be able to go all the way... this has stretched something out in my wrists and the god awful pain I used to get is almost totally gone . I dont know what this does but I swear it works for me :thumbsup I also have after market levers so My clutch lever can be adjusted closer to my hand just like the brake

You can also try clutchless upshifts. this only helps half the prob, but it's better than nothing.
As the rpm's come up put some upward pressure on the shifter. Then make a very quick "blip" OFF the throttle.
The harder you are accelerating and the higher the rpm the more off throttle you will need.
At light throttle and low rpm applications you only want enough to make the carbs "hiccup" on one or two cylinders (very little, more like a nervous twitch).
With a bit of practice it sounds and feels almost like you have an automatic tranny only faster.
Other than letting out the clutch to get rolling I can now wave at other riders, put my shield down, switch my fuel to reserve, wipe mist off my shield, change the clock to trip odom to check fuel level, etc...while shifting gears.

Downshifting only requires a little bit of clutch to let it shift easily. In fact the only time I pull in the lever the whole way is when I need to stop.

Don't know this will help, but try using only one (middle) or two fingers on the clutch. Vary it to see what's comfortable. Remember, you don't have to pull the clutch all the way against the grip to engage it. Anyway, it seems like a combo of all the suggestions you're getting might help though. Good luck.

Magura makes several hydraulic clutch conversion kits. I'm pretty sure they make one that would fit into the stock cable bracket on the 599's engine case. Someone also used to make a device that goes inline with the clutch cable and has a lever inside that reduces the effort required to pull the clutch, while sacrificing a bit of travel. Not sure who made it, but pretty sure I saw it in one of the common motorcycle aftermarket supply catalogs. Try Dennis Kirk, or see if you can access Parts Unlimited online.
