View Full Version : Found a brand new 2004 599 at a dealer... What is it worth

I've been looking into getting a 599 for a long time now and I am finally in the financial situation to afford one... I hope.

I found a dealer in my area that has a BRAND NEW 2004 599. Never sold. The dealer installed a fender eliminator kit, I'm not sure which one.
The bike currently has cobwebs on it from sitting since 2004 minus the occasional test ride.

So to get to my questions.
What is this bike worth as in the most I should be willing to pay? Is there anything to watch out for in a new bike that has sat in a showroom for almost 4 years and if I was to get the bike what sort of maintenance if any should be done before I start using it regularly.

Thanks for your help

Push your luck and see what you can get. I got my '04 about a year ago for $6000 and that was a solid deal at the time. Had the choice between one assembled and one not yet out of the crate. I went for the latter.

I assume they're not backing down on the warranty or anything, so I'd say $5k. Quite frankly, it's not gaining value just sitting there. With 07-08 SV650s and Ninja 650s going for around $6k out the door, I don't think that's unreasonable.

Depends, what color is it? If it's yellow (which I suspect it is), the price would go down significantly.

 :tomato

Seriously though, I think $5500 would be a good starting price, but I don't think I'd go over 6k. Not for a bike that's about to be 4 years old, even if it is new.

If it's been sitting on their floor for that long, they should be willing to practically give it away. I don't know if they'd go to $5000, but I wouldn't be too surprised if they let you have it for $5500.

Another new member on this forum just got a brand new '06 for $5,000. You should shoot for that.

Good luck! (And welcome to the forum.)

Welcome - and yeah, you need to try to walk out the door withit for no more than $5000. Go to 55 at the absolute most, but try to get something else thrown in, a discount on gear, something.

Here's that 06 that went for 5K.

Just remember, he's had that bike sitting there since 2004!!! He WANTS to get rid of it. YOU have the advantage if you only play the game right.

Best of luck to you.

Oh man. What I would do for a brand new 2004... :naughty

I found a few pristine used ones earlier this summer. Both were yellow '04's with ~2000 miles for ~$4500. Showroom condition.

Well I just got back from the dealer and they wouldn't take anything under 6700. (I guess thats what I get for going to a dealer that mainly sells BMW's)

The mods I didn't have listed that I just found out were frame sliders, windscreen, and silver pin stripes. The pin stripes were already coming off in spots and they were charging 200 bucks for em. The windscreen covered 1/4 of the headlight, it was really ugly, and they were charging 200 bucks for it as well. It was a total of $1000 parts and labor that they were charging for the mods.

So long story short I'm now just lookin for a used 599 under 15,000 miles near Carlisle, PA

$6700??? :gtfo You could get a brand new 2006 for LESS than that. I'd really like to know who sells them their drugs, cause that isht has gotten them crazy faded!!! :friday Take your money elsewhere. Any dealer who would quote that price without laughing is not someone you need to be working with. :run Ridden before or not, who tries to push a damn near five year old bike (keep in mind when the 04s were actually released) for 6 hundred dollars less than the MSRP on a brand new 06 when the 06s were just comign out????????? Insanity. If I could, I'd smack those guys for you. :bash

Dude, they are smoking something indeed.

Here's what you need to do:
Browse this forum for various posts where people say they bought their bike for 5 - 6 grand. Talk to those dealerships. Get out the door quotes. Then go back to that dealership and show them a list of other dealerships in other states where you can get this bike for a decent price. In fact, you'll probably get quotes for '06 that are better than these asses are asking for.

In short, tell them that there is a reason why that bike has dust over it, and that's because it's unpopular and overprised! Tell them to feel free to take the stupid accessories off. Tell them that you're ready to buy today. Flash the cash if possible, and then give them your number in case they decide to come to their senses and walk away. Call them the next day to see if they had a chance to talk about it. If not, forget about them and buy a used one (or buy from another dealership out of state and have it delivered).

Best of luck to you.

PS. DO NOT give them more than 5200 for it - OUT THE DOOR!

Seriously, if they try bullshitting you again, ask them for the number of the guy who sells them their crack.

Dude, I got my 06 for that before tax... they are so full of shit. That's an entirely unreasonable price. I don't see how this dealer is still alive if they're pushing a bike that's been on their floor for at least three years, probably four, for just $500 under MSRP.

I had to work to get $6k out the door. The rep went back to me at least three times telling me how low I was and asking if I'd budge. I knew what I wanted and was reasonable. I stuck to my guns even when he came back and said he absolutely couldn't do it. I told him, "That's fine. You've got your limits and I've got my budget. I'm going to check a few other dealerships this weekend to see what they have - I know I can get this year's SV650 for that price, so we'll see. Give me a call if the situation changes!"

Got a call the next day and a bike the day after that.

I didn't want the SV650, but I used it as a point of reference to validate my asking price. I also brought up the point that an '04 bike isn't gaining any value at all. Point is that they will fight hard but, if you've done your research, you'll have your ammo and can dig in to play the same game. Just make sure they know you're more than happy to walk.

When you said that the dealer had an 04 that still hasn't sold, it's not surprising that they're asking such a crazy price. Why do you think they still have it???

Does that dealer have a shop in the back that does a lot of business? Or do they sell a ton of parts and gear? There's a shop here in St. Louis that has crazy prices also (Donelson, for the locals). Last year when I was looking for my RR, this shop had a beautiful new 04 in the colors I wanted, but they were still asking msrp for it ($12k). Those who are familiar with the dealer say they don't worry about dropping bike prices cause they make all their money fixing them and selling parts/gear.

P.S. - Dealer gripes aside, Donelson's shop is really good. I got a nail in my front tire and rode (gingerly) to their shop and they were able to fix it while a waited, and I got to watch them do it, all for a very reasonable price.

The dealer I work with recently bought two leftover 599's from the warehouse for a song. If you want one, there are 06's to be had out there.

One more thing in reference to the 04. Brand new never titled means NOTHING because the second you ride it, that VERY second it goes from "new, never titled" to "used three year old bike."

I would look up what the bike goes for in the NADA and not give a dime more. I don't give a flip about the new/never titled.

Yeah, 6700 is outrageous for an 04. I just bought my 06 brand new in the crate for $5000 (through a Honda auction because I had a friend at the dealership).

NADA prices that bike for $4800 in used condition - it's certainly not worth paying more than 5500.

I got my '06 for $6150 OTD.

I noticed you're in PA -- it may be a bit of a commute for you, but call up Charlotte (NC) Honda and Honda of Chattanooga (TN). If they've got '06 models, you may come out getting a newer bike for the same money, even after you've factored in the travel expenses.

Something to think on....

LOL. I saw your bike and wanted it, but you're too far away. Columbus is a tad closer than Allentown, PA. However, I used your ad to negotiate the price on the bike I bought.... so thanks!
