View Full Version : Let's compare FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE rates! robkb 10-21-2007, 08:16 PM I wonder if anyone is getting a better deal than me on their full coverage insurance for their 599. I have a 2006 599. GEICO charges me $675/year. I bet I might be getting :hump screwed! JHenley17 10-21-2007, 09:02 PM I really hope you guys are a lot older than me, because I'm paying a lot more... ~$1700-1800/yr, and that's the cheapest rate I could get with a clean record living in a small town... robotribe 10-21-2007, 09:53 PM 37 y.o., clean record, 2006 599: $420/yr., full coverage with State Farm in Kalifornia. 8) Transient 10-21-2007, 11:31 PM About $550/yr, recently dropped from around $1000/yr. I'm 25. Pepper 10-22-2007, 08:40 AM Ontario motorcycle insurance is INSANE... I've got full coverage for $950.00 :x Charleegirl 10-22-2007, 08:49 AM 47 yr old lady with clean record, full coverage in Louisiana, Progressive is charging $502.00 per year. I got a ticket this past month for improper lane uasge may increase at renewal in December!! Alex 10-22-2007, 10:03 AM I really hope you guys are a lot older than me, because I'm paying a lot more... ~$1700-1800/yr, and that's the cheapest rate I could get with a clean record living in a small town... J, you're being ripped off. I HIGHLY recommend you try to find an independent agent/insurance broker in your state who'll find you a better rate. 1700 a year is insane, especially for a small town. Alex 10-22-2007, 10:04 AM I wonder if anyone is getting a better deal than me on their full coverage insurance for their 599. I have a 2006 599. GEICO charges me $675/year. I bet I might be getting screwed! Rob, you're not getting screwed. That's a decent price for full coverage. If you REALLY look, you might save a 100 bucks a year, but for all the trouble you'll go through just to find that, it will not be worth it. JHenley17 10-22-2007, 11:20 AM I guess I should look, but I know when I was shopping for bikes and getting quotes, the FZ6 was around $1000 more per year, and all the kids my age with supersports are paying almost twice as much... When you say independent, what do you mean? I really don't know much about insurance and don't want to get screwed if I need to make a claim. I'm currently going through a local State Farm agent... and it's actually listed as a pleasure vehicle, I'm putting a lot more miles than we said I would. I don't know what's going to happen if they check my mileage. Alex 10-22-2007, 11:42 AM When I say "Independent" I mean someone who works out of their own office and might deal with various insurance companies to get you the best deal on insurance. Sounds like you found one. I have state farm too, but I'm paying ~ 650 or so for full coverage. You should look around some more. 2wheelwobbler 10-22-2007, 02:12 PM About $360 a year for me. State Farm, Florence SC. 2006 599 28 years old, not married. Very good driving record, perfect if you only count what they look at. MSF Beginner class passed. Full Coverage. $500 deductible i think... might be $1000. Just dirt cheap, like $30 a month lol. Got the loan from them too but thats another story. State Farm have been good to me. 599Toronto 10-22-2007, 02:24 PM Ontario motorcycle insurance is INSANE... I've got full coverage for $950.00 :x I agree -- $1,300 per year, full coverage, clean record. Pepper -- who are you with? Obviously, based on your rates, being a girl ain't all that bad!! :D ukkev 10-22-2007, 02:25 PM Some of these quotes may be lower due to the fact that multiple items are getting insured with the same company, ie your house, and car also... 38yrs old , 2nd year with a bike, C$950 all in... no other items insured... :( aylmer599 10-22-2007, 03:05 PM 903CAD a year with desjardins (in quebec) full coverage, 2 tickets( total of 4 points off) 19 years old. i think i'm getting a good deal. robkb 10-22-2007, 06:29 PM I think I'll call my State Farm agent and see what they can offer me. After all, they already insure my truck and I've been with them for years. sschulak 10-22-2007, 06:56 PM u guys are funny, i put my bike on credit card and paid 99$ for liability for 1 year!!!! hehehehe i figured i would save a ton on insurance and be and thought if i ever got in a wreck it would be one i wouldnt have to worry about the bike more so than loosing my head Seetrout 10-22-2007, 08:13 PM Full coverage. $500 deductible. 39. Married. Male. $240 1st yr. crashed $5000 damage. $232 2nd yr. $222 this yr. BUT...they provide no medical for the operator. I think it's different in every state and province, even with the same company. I use state farm for everything, but the bike is it's own separate policy. I get no multi-listing discount for or from the bike. The bill comes separate and I have to pay min 6 mos at a time. Everything else is one bill, monthly payment. JohnG 10-22-2007, 08:44 PM Progressive 744.00 per year...Phoenix, 46 yrs old, clean driving record. sports bike rates. JHenley17 10-22-2007, 08:45 PM I'm 19. This bike is the only thing I've had that will give me any credit history, save for a $500 limit credit card I got about 8 months ago. There was no way in hell I could have gotten it on a credit card. Not even a loan without a cosigner. I'm actually using this so I might be able to get a car once I pay it off... Sachi 10-22-2007, 08:49 PM This is a useless discussion. Insurance rates depend not only on the bike, but on your driving record, your age, what else you insure with the company, whether you smoke, and a host of other things. And MOST OF ALL, the rates change depending on where you live. Being in a "small town" means little if it has a high motorcycle theft rate, for example. In my own case, I am a 56 year old woman with a perfect driving record (at least until I biffed it) and I paid almost 600 a year. If I had lived a mile from here my rate would have gone UP. That's how sensitive these calculations are. If you want to find out if you have a good rate, call different insurance companies and give them the SAME information. Compare THOSE rates, not what different people in different places pay to insure their bikes. rndthought 10-23-2007, 08:55 AM What she said. BUT... I think to make it a bit more useful...if maybe you switched the fact that it went up or down and by what % may help somewhat in a comparative aspect. 599DegreeFever 10-23-2007, 10:57 PM You guys have insurance?!!? BoundiAV 10-24-2007, 09:58 PM what exactly does full coverage mean? every insurance company has different limits and then whether you get medical coverage or not (and if you do what limit) your rates change. your deductible too has a big impact. if you really want to compare you should list everything. And then also what sachi said: the location is a big factor too. rndthought 10-25-2007, 07:17 AM What he said. BUT... I think to make it a bit more useful...if maybe you switched the fact that it went up or down and by what % may help somewhat in a comparative aspect. Evil Ed 11-05-2007, 06:05 PM Hey ya'll, this is my first post. I'm in the process of buyin a Civic SI and I got a quote from my insurance co. for the car. While I was at it I asked about my '06 599. Get this $297.00/year full coverage!!!! Progressive has been robbing me! And with one lay down ta boot. I'm switching tomorrow. FNA! JHenley17 11-05-2007, 06:32 PM I almost can't wait to be old... Opticycler 11-05-2007, 07:13 PM I have progressive and pay about $120 a year for basic liability(the only one I'll hurt in a crash on a bike is me!). Collision on a motorcycle? If I crash it bad enugh to need collision, I probably wouldn't be around to collect on it. :( Besides, I self-insure. My total yearly insurance bill for three cages, and one 599 is about $650 :D --must be that over forty thing. Heck, I remember when you weren't even required to have motorcycle insurance!! Dresden 11-20-2007, 06:55 AM 320/yr progressive full coverage. 22 single male with some driving record activity ;) Super Sneaky Steve 11-20-2007, 07:08 AM To me insurance is like a defered payment. Not really free money in case of an accident. I crunched some numbers. I've been riding street since 2002 and it's almost 2008, so that's 6 years X 12 months, and I pay about $200/year for PLPD saving about $600 a year (conservativly) over full coverage. I haven't had an accident yet so I've saved $3600 so far. That's money in my bank collecting interest. rndthought 11-20-2007, 08:48 AM Full coverage...no. The bike is worth like what ....3 or 4k? If that is a deal breaker, you may wanna find another hobby. Not for nothing. But please don't ride without any insurance... Penny wise pound foolish if you get hurt or hurt someone else... jmd 11-21-2007, 09:07 AM Same here...liability only. Of course my bike's only worth $3-4k. If something really bad happened to it i'd just buy a new bike with the money i saved from not paying full insurance. 8) Now if i had kept the 919 i probably would have gotten full coverage as it was worth $6-7k...and in perfect condition. Super Sneaky Steve 11-21-2007, 09:32 AM Your old bike is crying JMD, saying "why did you sell me? am I not good enough for you?" :( rndthought 11-21-2007, 09:43 AM No Steve, she is just crying because, dispite the hope that the issue was just the rider, she now realizes she’ll never has as much fun as her nosier, smaller, snottier, cheeky, ruckus CB600 cousin :woohoo ScottUK 11-21-2007, 05:24 PM £144 fully comp for the 600 Hornet and the GPZ900R :P lowrdr18 11-21-2007, 05:28 PM im 20 years old and have an 06 599 with full coverage for like 40.05 a month through state farm and my drivin record aint perfect rndthought 11-21-2007, 06:00 PM £144 fully comp for the 600 Hornet and the GPZ900R :P How much coverage for bodily injury and property? And what is the deductible? Are your personal medicals covered and how about passengers? Also, in the UK is it socialized or pay as you go in the hospital? Sev 11-21-2007, 08:09 PM Just under $1000.00 a year for full comprehensive on my '07 ZX6R with a $500.00 deductible. For liability, and theft I'd be paying just over $500.00, so at $500.00 per year for the comp I'd have to go 21 years on that bike without crashing to save enough to buy a new one. I figure the peace of mind is worth it. dabinche 11-21-2007, 11:26 PM about $400/yr for full coverage at 32 with/was a perfect record but on the next one it will go up for sure now that I have 2points my scooter rate went up from $55 every 6months to $135 just recently..I just about shit a brick, think I need to ride it more so I won't get any more speeding tickets. All tickets are from driving and early in the morning when I'm at my least/lowest level of alertness. Also just switch form a car to a pickup so hopefully that will slow me down a little, well up until I get use to driving it any how. ScottUK 11-22-2007, 01:04 AM £144 fully comp for the 600 Hornet and the GPZ900R :P How much coverage for bodily injury and property? And what is the deductible? Are your personal medicals covered and how about passengers? Also, in the UK is it socialized or pay as you go in the hospital? I think there is £150 excess on the policy RND. We have the National Health Service to take care of the medical side of things. (Supposedly). Passengers.........I haven't carried a passenger in years.....I suppose that will change when I put the GPZ back on the road. robkb 01-13-2009, 08:54 AM I wonder if anyone is getting a better deal than me on their full coverage insurance for their 599. I have a 2006 599. GEICO charges me $675/year. I bet I might be getting :hump screwed! Yeah, I quoted myself. Man, I'm finally getting a break in life! My insurance is now only $238/year. That's about $25/month + 3 FREE months. I'm saving 50 bucks a month! Billy from Philly 01-13-2009, 01:22 PM State Farm Ins. no accidents, no tickets, $175. per six months. Conveniently I moved 90 miles west, and the rate went back to $675... Progressive. dorian7 03-05-2009, 03:17 PM I don't mean to kick a dead horse here but I figured I would pitch in. I was 19 when I got insurance through state farm and for 1000/1000 full coverage on my 599 It is only $24 a month. Clean driving record, Oregon. Alex 03-05-2009, 03:54 PM Looks like I may need to get a quote from someone else soon. Paying about 600 a year and it doesn't even cover gear. Off with Farmers. zim 03-05-2009, 05:21 PM 427.00 yr through state farm and thats for the best coverage you can get through them. yeah Alex I would shop around that seem's high for a clean record. Billy from Philly 03-05-2009, 06:20 PM State Farm Ins. no accidents, no tickets, $175. per six months. Full coverage, full tort, $500. deduct. Cost reflects car insurance with them. Thought the quote was for six months but it turned out to be a year. nicekid81 03-05-2009, 07:18 PM Um, as a former State Farm claims adjuster, I'd like to say a few things; - First, there is NO such thing as full coverage! I know the agent's office may call it as such for a liab/com/coll/medpay/whatever package, but it does not cover everything and there ARE things that are not covered unless you have it specifically written-in! I was frequently on the wrong end of that conversation with the policyholders, I tell you what . . .. - As far as whether you should have com/coll/medpay; well, obviously it depends on what you're comfortable with - I've dealt with "substandard" insurance companies when I worked there (like, for instance, ones who would argue that their driver is not at fault even though both everyone admitted that their driver ran a red light into ours!) and in case of liability-only policies, your insurance company can't represent you unless we have some sort of financial payout/involvement (for ex., Allstate can't tell Progressive to pay up unless Allstate paid for their policyholder's car repairs even if the other one is at fault - which is only possible if you have coll/comp coverage)! - There's a lot of other things I can get into, but let me say this one last thing; I don't work for them anymore so I have no obligations to State Farm, but when I go back stateside again, I'd not hesitate to have my policy with them! :thumbsup weeman 03-07-2009, 10:44 AM i live in england 45yrs old not past test yet but bin quoted 109 pounds for hornet, which i think is about 230 dollars from some of the figures above i think this is pretty good. | |
