View Full Version : Chance to own a 2005 750 GSXR
Chris G 10-26-2007, 08:31 PM Well a buddy of mine purchased a salvaged 2005 750 GSXR (it was stolen) for around $800.00 dollars and wanted to know if i wanted to buy it off him for $1000.00.
Their is no issue with how the bike runs only that it is missing the gas tank, plastics, and the seat. Everything else is in order and the bike should be running fine just wondering if it would even be worth restoring.
If i do purchase it i will be rebuilding it just to resell in the future, i don't plan on keeping it long term.
ALSO!!! i have a secret project bike that i will post about next month once i get it in my garage...but here is a hint for you, it's a original naked honda.

CB360? or is that too original?
Chris G 10-26-2007, 08:34 PM well it is from the 70's
Seetrout 10-26-2007, 08:44 PM Too bad you're in Colorado.
You could ride with me and Mechanic on Sunday.
JHenley17 10-26-2007, 10:59 PM To keep short term, I don't think it would be very wise. You're not going to get a whole lot out of a salvage title and those parts are going to cost you, unless you can find some used bits that are in good shape, which might not be hard. If you were keeping it for yourself, though, I'd say it's a good idea, so long as you don't mind having a stolen bike. A 750 would be a lot of fun, I think. Torque closer to a 1000 with agility closer to a 600, a nice compromise for the street. I really want one...
Transient 10-27-2007, 12:55 AM I wouldn't recommend it if only because you'd be supporting bike theives.
Buddy of mine has a friend who does a lot of dealings with bike theives. He gets new, legal frames and rebuilds bikes on 'em. Before I picked up the 599, he offered me a lot of great deals on immaculate bikes. It can be pretty tough to turn that sort of thing down.

no no the bike was stolen then recovered that is why it has the salvaged title, it was stripped of its plastics and tank then returned to its owner which in turn sold it to my friend and purchased another bike.
Seetrout 10-27-2007, 09:43 AM Do a little research on e-vil-bay.
both for parts and for bikes.
you could probably resell it as is in a week and turn a bit of a profit.
put a reserve of $1400 and buy it now for maybe $2000.
Probably do much better to put it up in the late spring.

Ooooooooooooh. That's where I got lost. Sorry, the "friend of a friend" is always talking about his little deals, so that's where my head went first. Hell, go with your gut!
Chris G 10-27-2007, 10:23 AM I think i am gonna take another look at it and probably end up getting it.
I will just buy the parts to complete it one at a time on ebay or craigslist, restoring the bike shouldn't be a big issue and as long as i take care of it and do it right i think i will be able to turn some profit in the end.
Super Sneaky Steve 10-27-2007, 12:48 PM How do you know that's the only thing wrong with it? Without a tank I doubt they tried to start it.
Too much risk for my liking.
Chris G 10-27-2007, 12:52 PM Well i will be taken to my friends shop to test it out before buying it, as far as its condition, yes their is a few scratch marks on some parts from people stripping parts off but everything else is in order.
i will post some pictures next time i take a look at it.
