View Full Version : Ok...what do we think about this naked?
MotoGPFan26 10-27-2007, 10:03 PM I'm really curious what everyone thinks about the new Aprilia Shiver 750 that is on it's way to the US this year? Estimated price tag is going to be close to $11,500 as of the last thing I could find on the web.
Look good or no?
Price sucks...already know that.
It's a twin...wonder how fun it would be to ride?
Found these two videos on YouTube...

robotribe 10-28-2007, 01:15 AM Love it, but as mentioned already, the price SUCKS.
Compared to other twins:
• Aprilia Shiver 750: $11,500
• Monster S2R 1000: $10,495
• BMW F 800 S: $9,475.00 (okay, not really naked)
• Suzuki SV1000s: $8,699.00 (again, non-naked)
• Suzuki SV650: $5,999.00
As sexy as it is in that Transformers kind of way, I can't get past the price. Plus, at least around here, it's easier to find a Ducati dealer to service your bike than an Aprilia.
You're paying premium to ride something different—even more than a Ducati. :? If it were $3000 less I'd bite.
Transient 10-28-2007, 09:14 AM Performance wise, the previews I've seen haven't been overwhelming in any way. I like how it looks, but I don't think it'd be much of a step up as a lateral move.
Super Sneaky Steve 10-28-2007, 02:48 PM My nine-hundee would smoke it and costs thousands less.
Seems like a fancy SV650 to me.
Still wating for that CB1100 concept bike to become real :bow

+1 :)

Um, I think you're matching it up with the wrong class of bikes. In my mind it's a cheaper way to get into a bike like a MVA910 or a Benelli 1130. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpSHI5bJYog) or possibly the $13,998 990 Super Duke (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPhUd-rsPkk)
(edit: that Super Duke link is a pretty good video - put me in the mood to go ride)
You just had to remind me, didn't you?! Oh, how I long for this sweet cafe racer. If I ever win a lottery or something...

Those are both great looking bikes. The Super Duke seems to get nothing but praise (at least from the press).
Actually, I was making comparison based on price points vs. displacement. The fact that a Ducati S2R and Suzuki SV100S with bigger displacements costs less was the thing I was focusing on. Plus, if you compare the Shiver to the Super Duke and Benelli, it's the same situation where you're paying more for less bike with the Aprilia.
VooDooYouDo 10-29-2007, 12:39 PM Everyone knows using exchange rate is no way of determining true costs over here.
From motorcycle-usa:
When it hits the showrooms in June it's going to cost less than six-grand - around the £5800 or £5900 region, although no official prices have yet been released. (No word yet on the Shiver's U.S. release date or asking price, but at the current exchange rate the British MSRP translates in $11,500
The 06 U.K. Honda Hornet's MSRP was £5,300 and U.S. was around what, $7,200?
:wtf
Morons. (not you guys, the so-called Journalists who don't do research before they publish an article.)

Very good point. Like I said though in my first post, if it was somewhere in the $8000-$8500 range, than it's much more palatable to me at least.
VooDooYouDo 10-29-2007, 12:53 PM BTW David,
He was right matching it up in that class of bikes.
The MV Agusta 910 Brutale would be on par with the Aprilia Tuono R (1000cc twin). NOT the Shiver 750.
I saw a '07 Tuono R with about 1100 miles for $9,800 at my local Italian Bike dealer about the time I bought my 599. Insurance made quick work of those crazy thoughts.
VooDooYouDo 10-29-2007, 01:04 PM UPDATE!
My Aprilia dealer just informed me they have pricing.
Aprilia Shiver 750 MSRP: $8999!

It's not the horsepower you're paying for, the 07 hornet whoops it there. It's the handling.

 Oh no…bad thoughts are seeping into my brain…and they involve debt…
Per your insurance point in your other post, that makes this bike even more tasty. I WISH Kawasaki sold the z750 here, but this is a nicer looking (to me) anyway.

Oh, I agree with that. I'm just saying they are the shiver is comparable not in level of bike, but that you're buying a premium manufacturer, italian origin and italian reliability  - And it is a relatively cheap way to get into that market. It's like someone buying a Mini Cooper S when they want a BMW. Not really the same level, but same class. KnowWhatImean?
I like the Shiver, but I'm the kind of person that will wait until I can afford the Duke.

Yeah that bike is a winner. I sat on one a few weeks back, but couldn't get a key to fire it up. I bet it's a beast!
VooDooYouDo 10-29-2007, 03:58 PM oh definitely. The Italians always have amazing suspension and braking systems as well.
I really wanted a Ducati until I saw this. Honda's always get my attention.

First day of my honeymoon, Rome, a bus driver (I'm guessing it's his second gig) showed me his brand new Binelli Cafe Racer, just like the one in the picture. He let me sit on it and he fired up the engine.
You know that new Cadillac commercial, "when you turn your car on, does it return the favor?" .... well, that thing returned the favor! I LOVE that bike.
robkb 10-29-2007, 05:19 PM That front break reservoir looks like something I could whiz in and hand over to a nurse. Maybe if I was running late for a piss test, I'd could use that bike. If I had a million dollars, I'd buy a 2006 599.
rndthought 10-30-2007, 07:13 AM Just wondering...if these were side by side with the keys and no one around... wich one?

JHenley17 10-30-2007, 08:23 AM Wow... what is that first thing? Both look really busy, but really bad-ass. I think I'd probably go with the Benelli...
rndthought 10-30-2007, 09:38 AM Yamaha - Then there’s the Cannon. Described by a colleague as “one bad-ass bike,” there was virtually no information about it — but looks alone spoke volumes. One we could work out is that it was a big bore, long stroke V-twin offering “sports performance.” Yamaha put it mildly: “This machine is specially designed to meet the eclectic tastes of hard-core, experienced riders.” Say no more. . .

Yamaha. Hands down. It's just a little cleaner in the transitions for my eyes and I'd trust getting replacement parts for it more than ANY Italian marque. More importantly, there's a dealer in town about 3 miles away from my house.
Pipe dream…
I love the profile of the Yamaha. It reminds me of the new Buell 1125R, but with more exagerated proportions. There's just something about the heavy foward, wispy/short tail look that gets me every time...

We talkin' bikes or girls now?
Just wondering...if these were side by side with the keys and no one around... wich one?
Let's start with the fact that I wouldn't steal either one of them. If, however, one of them was offered to me as a present (yeah, right), I'd pick the Binelli. Why? Because the other one is a v-twin. I don't care for the feel of the twin engine. As far as looks go, I really do like it.
AND NO STEVE, I'M NOT DRUNK OR HIGH AS I SAY THIS.
