A B-17? Wow... Never woulda guessed that... I'm a big B-17 fan myself as my grandfather flew on them in WW2... Those Videos are great hondagirl.. I couldnt imagine flying in one of those things.... I've had the oportunity to go up in alot of aerobatic planes..But nothing like an F-18.lol I had a little "Pass Out" trouble myself in a 2 hole Pitts and cant imagine what the ride in a Fighter would be like..But I'd damn sure like to find out..

I used to love watching the F/A 18 HORNETS do strafing runs when I was on active duty, But my favorite is still the SR71.
When I was in ******** we'd be standing out in formation and you'd start to notice that the sky was just FULL of fighter planes and then...there it was...a blackbird...the shape made it look like it was hardly moving, but next to an F14 it was hauling ass, except that it really was just loafing along. It would circle around 2 or 3 times and then it would turn verticle and just sort of disappear.

Officially it was capable of mach 3+. Over 2100 MPH. Officially.
Tomcat's are cool too.

In Lansing a year or two ago you could go for rides in the B-17 for a "donation" to the Confederate Air Force... they had restored one and were working on another or something.
Was smaller than I expected. You had to be a midget to really maneuver in there.

If you've ever had a chance to sit in a fighter, it's even worse... airshows pretty much killed my dreams of being a fighter pilot while taunting me with gross displays of their awesomeness...

Most of you are engineers.
Think about a fighter from that perspective.
1st thrust to weight ratio. Take a big ass engine and strap a couple a wings and a tail to it. Now it's a plane.
2nd put a bunch of mounting points on it to hang weapons. Now it's a fighter.
Oh hell! Where am I going to put the pilot? No matter where he/she (I want points for being PC here) goes it's going to screw up the aerodynamics. Damn...OK...exactly how much space do you need to fit in a human body...Can we specify only petite pilots?
No? Are you sure?

Yes. There is a max and min height for Navy flight school.
Better yet..."Ok I want the plane as maneuverable." The more unstable the more maneuverable  Read somewhere that the joint strike fighter will more than likely be the last "fighter" with a pilot specked as the requirement to keep a pilot alive during maneuvers is holding back performance

Sachi, check this site out, last year the tour came to the Carlsbad airport. A B-17 flew over my house;I jumped in my car and drove over to watch it land.

It is "kind-of" expensive but I think it is worth it.....just from a historical perspective.

I found it by the nose art/name "Nine O Nine"
After I saw it land, I stared at it until it took off again.
When I got home I google for the name.
