View Full Version : What is the best game ever?
Super Sneaky Steve 11-20-2007, 09:42 AM It's a hard decision to make, but these are a few that come to mind.
I remember playing Gran Turismo for every waking hour for weeks strait. Only taking breaks for the bathroom and food. I think GT3 was the best of them.
GTA, there's something just so fun about beaing up sluts and driving a truck into a motorcycle at a high rate of speed. Can't put my finger on it.
Halo, never played it, but people seem to like it.
Guitar Hero, I only played it once and it was really fun. I thought it was just a gimic, and it may be, but it's still fun.
WoW is my latest addiction. Yeah, it's dorky but it allows me to connect with friends and my brother who lives out of state.
Feel free to add your own favorite, but you have to vote for one of these! 8)
JBarx 11-20-2007, 10:10 AM Had to go with Gran Turismo due to my limited exposure with the other games. I had II for the original playstation and was an addiction. Still don't think I finished it.
Dresden 11-20-2007, 10:22 AM sober. Gran Turismo
tipsy - Guitar Hero
rndthought 11-20-2007, 10:57 AM Hands down. "Stunts" on the PC. Fun times....

Sachi 11-20-2007, 11:03 AM What? There's no option for "Ham-Ham Heartbreak"?
I'm crushed.
VooDooYouDo 11-20-2007, 12:12 PM What? There's no option for "Ham-Ham Heartbreak"?
I'm crushed.
Come again? :wtf
ukkev 11-20-2007, 12:34 PM Gran Turismo is awesome, I also played it non stop for hours, but not months... unlike Wow, which I'd say can be horribly addictive, it's such a huge environment to get emersed in...
Interestingly, I think it was taking my full motorcycle license and buying the 599 that broke the wow hold on me... summer came, and I rarely looked back...
I picked wow for this reason... but never again!
JBarx 11-20-2007, 01:44 PM My little brother tried to get me into WoW and I decided right off the bat not to even try it - I have enough time-consuming addictions already. Command & Conquer, Civ IV, etc. I didn't need to get into another one. These days I don't play anything because I ride whenever I can so there's no extra time. This winter I have to study for my architectural registration exams so I need to avoid video games entirely.
VooDooYouDo 11-20-2007, 01:50 PM Right on Command And Conquer! Grand Theft has been my favorite game since the first PS1 game and my mad modding of GTA2 for the computer. Take that taxi, make it invincible and impossibly fast. Good stuff.
yeroC 11-20-2007, 03:01 PM I voted for GTA only because it was fun for a while. Got old tho'.
Halo is actually very cool. Had fun with that. My faves are Medal of
Honor series, and the old Syphon Filter series. And can't forget
007 on N64.
Transient 11-20-2007, 06:42 PM I can't believe someone mentioned Stunts. Which was awesome.
My favorite game ever was Team Fortress. The original mod made for the Quake 1 engine. Team Fortress Classic sucked in comparison, but Team Fortress 2 has recaptured some of the magic. I just wish they'd keep it "Capture the Flag" rather than trying to diversify.
robkb 11-20-2007, 07:27 PM I like Time Splitters2, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Medal of Honor.
Sachi 11-20-2007, 08:42 PM What? There's no option for "Ham-Ham Heartbreak"?
I'm crushed.
Come again? :wtf
Come ON. Surely you expect the occasional throw-away comment from me by now, don't you?
(Ham-Ham Heartbreak is a game boy game featuring the lovable little hamsters from the Japanese cartoon Hamtaro and Friends.)
JHenley17 11-20-2007, 09:12 PM GTA... there's a lot you can do in there outside of missions. Gran Turismo now bores me after about 10 minutes to the point where I'll just quit in the middle of a race. Though, I guess maybe I should have said Halo... online multiplayer is very hard to get bored with.
Seetrout 11-21-2007, 12:55 AM Hello?
Is this a MC forum?
Tourist Trophy?
LeatherWings 11-21-2007, 01:27 AM My cousin/roomate is addicted to WoW and plays it non-stop. I mean literally NON-STOP. If he's not sleeping or working, he's playing that damn game. He'll stay up till 7am playing it and won't wake up until 3pm and will start playing it again as soon as he wakes up.
It makes me sick. It also actually kinda pisses me off. Because he turns up the volume of his speakers, I can hear him and the people he's playing with, voice chatting... it's prety irritating. He's playing it right now as I'm typing!!!
Steve, don't let this piece of garbage game consume you like it has my loser-ass cousin!
P.S. Although I don't play much anymore, Starcraft is an awesome game! Has Starcraft 2 come out yet?
Super Sneaky Steve 11-21-2007, 05:45 AM Hello?
Is this a MC forum?
Tourist Trophy?
TT is a great game and all, my fave bike game ever, but it's really lackluster compared to Gran Turismo. I don't know why, it's made by poly, they just didn't do as much as they could with it. You can barely do any power upgrades and most the bikes I like arn't in the game.
I do like that it doesn't have any 24h races like GT has. I wonder if anyone has ever done that? Just my luck, if I tried that I'd get 23 hours into and we'd lose power. I think I'd shoot myself! What they really need, even for the smaller 4hour races is a way to save the game mid race, at a pit stop maybe. That way it would actually be enjoyable.
P.S. Although I don't play much anymore, Starcraft is an awesome game! Has Starcraft 2 come out yet?
Yes! Another Starcraft fan. Used to play that all the time back in highschool. Actually picked it back up a few months ago...
I used to play Halo at least 2 nights a week with my friends. Probably spent 10 hrs a week for at least a year playing it. I still love it, but just haven't had much time for video games this year. Since i got a bike again (went a couple years without one until last year) i'd rather be riding. 8) But i'm definately still a Halo guy.
WoW is the devil. My friend's older brother does nothing but sleep, work, and play WoW. He's been doing that for well over a year...it's pretty sad to see him in exactly the same place/situation he's been in since i've known him. I don't really think he has any friends...at least not around here. :?
djamalt 07-27-2010, 12:23 AM Forgive me, I'm not a gamer. WTF is Starcraft and why are there 4 thousand plus people camped out in front of Frye's since last night waiting for it to go on sale in a few hours (I'm guessing at midnight?)?
Super Sneaky Steve 07-27-2010, 05:02 AM Well, the original star-craft was just like warcraft but instead of orcs and knighs you had little space men.
Think sim city but instead of just building a city, you build a military camp then you go kill people.
People have waited a long time for the sequal! I'm 1 week WoW sober so I'm not even going to look at the new star-craft!
Gorveatt 07-27-2010, 07:00 AM Of those listed I'm going with GTA as well, Plus I'm a huge fan of the GTA series so it was a no brainer choice, I've owned em all (except the hand held versions) and loved em all, and have wasted countless hours playing them

Arguably the most successful and longest-played "Real-Time Strategy" game for the PC. It was a huge deal for online play when it came out 12 years ago and it STILL has people playing.
Not my kinda game, but ah well.
slippy 07-27-2010, 07:12 AM The Legend of Zelda series beats all of them.
What about Goldeneye? Best shooter ever. Halo might win out only because it has online multi.

I was waiting for someone to start talking about old school games. I have never been able to get into new games for some reason. Well, the only somewhat-new game that I could play forever was Soul Caliber 2. Here is a short list of my greatest games ever:
Zelda
Super Mario Bros. 1
Super Mario Bros. 3
Tetris
Ninja Gaiden
Rad Racer
Mike Tyson's Punch Out
Umm, anything else I am missing here? I don't know.
JBarx 07-27-2010, 07:36 AM I have to put in a vote for Metroid. Epic game, tough mazes, and a twist ending.
motorico 07-27-2010, 08:35 AM Spin the bottle.
Oh, video games, I for one am stoked about StarCraft II. I have been struggling through building a new PC so I can play it.
clicketysplit 07-27-2010, 09:29 AM Wow, that's quite a thread resurrection!
I'm kinda addicted to 'Red Remover' right now:
http://www.thegamehomepage.com/play/red-remover/
what ? no motogp? on a motorcycle forum ? guess i'm way old :idonno:
skrogg 07-27-2010, 10:09 AM I gave up on consoles years ago but if I had to pick 1 game it would be Hogs of War for the 1st playstation.

mazdamike25 07-27-2010, 10:32 AM Fallout 3 is quite possibly the best game of all time for me.......I chose Halo for its online ability.....guitar hero would be better if the game was just a boot disc so you could hook up you MP3 player and play your own songs for your Ipod. I am out on WoW cause my brother plays it 10 hours a day.....I don't to say anymore there :lol2:

IF you like old school video games you have to see this.......someone emulated the original Mario, and made it so you can pick Link, samus,Bill(contra),mega man or mario as charaters...and still use thier video game powers I.E. bill can shoot goombas :lol2:

JHenley17 07-27-2010, 05:22 PM Fallout 3 is quite possibly the best game of all time for me.......
I hate RPGs... I either overestimate how difficult or complex something is and spend way too much time preparing for or executing a simple task or I get hung up on fairly easy stuff because I don't really know how to fight. Fallout 3 pissed me off when I started a second save file because I wanted to blow up Megaton and be mean (it's actually really hard for me to do all that) and it autosaved over my original game file.
MW2 has been my addiction lately.
Stunts was awesome, especially with that turbo speed bug. But, its all about STAR CONTROL II: THE UR QUAN MASTERS. Game of the year, all years.
lilipad 07-27-2010, 07:21 PM Why isn't COD there? I love playing them...KILLKILL KiLL
motorico 07-28-2010, 09:04 AM Why isn't COD there? I love playing them...KILLKILL KiLL
silverjt22 is a lucky guy.
silverjt22 07-28-2010, 09:14 AM If I had to pick from the ones provided on the poll I would pick GTA, but personaly I love Call of Duty, best shooting game out there. And the only gaming is even better.
DH919 07-28-2010, 10:38 AM Stunts was indeed a fun game, nothing being able to ramp a F1 car at 200mph without tearing it to pieces. So far my favorite game has got to be Ace Combat 6. I don't get into RPG's at all, and first person shooters are... well, alright I guess... I'm more into racing, and simulators...
lilipad 07-28-2010, 11:02 AM silverjt22 is a lucky guy.
I agree
When is Grand Turismo coming out? November, right? I heard the release problem was that some companies didn't want there cars all scratched up and dented when crashed. I think this one will be the best one out them all
Stephen M 07-28-2010, 03:51 PM Robotron 2084, the original arcade game with 2 joysticks. Awesome game.
Creakinbones 07-28-2010, 03:54 PM Robotron 2084, the original arcade game with 2 joysticks. Awesome game.
Dude :thumbsup. Get back to Perth OK?
DH919 07-29-2010, 02:04 PM anyone else play NFS Prostreet? that's my current addiction
mazdamike25 07-29-2010, 02:08 PM I can fix classic 80's nintendos and sometimes games if anyone is interested.
nes and snes, also n64
DH919 07-29-2010, 02:26 PM Do you fix them so they play like new? mine works, but you have to blow in it and hold your mouth at the right angle, and then it might work...
JHenley17 07-29-2010, 02:48 PM I wish I could find my N64 and 40-50 games I had for it...
I had an NES and probably 20 games a few years ago that all worked well, but God knows what my mom did with it all when I moved out.
My SNES is in the spare bedroom in a box. All I have right now is Super Mario World and Star Fox.
motorico 07-29-2010, 02:53 PM Which Nintendo had Final Fantasy II? I loved that game.
DH919 07-29-2010, 04:45 PM Which Nintendo had Final Fantasy II? I loved that game.
I was anti Final Fantasy as soon as the 2nd one came out. The name of the game is "Final" fantasy, meaning it should have been the last one. Unlike final fantasy 12 or whatever the hell they're up to, that would imply there were 12 more fantasies... not very final...
My SNES is in the spare bedroom in a box. All I have right now is Super Mario World and Star Fox.
I remember when star fox came out, never got to play it, any good?
LeatherWings 07-29-2010, 05:19 PM I wish I could find my N64 and 40-50 games I had for it...

you can download all games ever made for those old systems for "free" by using emulator software and roms...
that's how i can still play one of the greatest arcade beat-'em-ups ever:
Hh1XGAYSho4
CTHS2TIISUE
JHenley17 07-29-2010, 09:48 PM There's actually a really cool facebook box that lets you play a lot of NES games. If you're friends with me, check out my boxes. Dig Dug and Galaga like a muthaf*cka...
I used to love Star Fox. I kind of get bored after a little while now. I still haven't beaten it, though.

Super Sneaky Steve 07-30-2010, 05:18 AM The best FF game was FFIII With Mog the Moogle and Shadow the Ninja! that was an SNES game. FFI and II were for the NES, but you can also get both games for the game boy which I have.
The first star fox was pretty cool. I was actually in a star fox tournament and won a T-shirt for being so cool.
mazdamike25 07-30-2010, 08:24 AM Which Nintendo had Final Fantasy II? I loved that game.
NES wad FF2, I can fix them to play without the BJ first.....:lol2:
DH919 07-30-2010, 10:29 AM Then expect mine sometime soon. IT works, I'd like it to work better

Transient 08-28-2010, 06:53 PM Every played a game, that was so ridiculously hard that it just wasn't fun anymore?
Many, and my tolerance for difficulty is pretty high, as is my general ability to not suck at games. The one that stands out most to my recent memory was Ninja Gaiden on the original Xbox. Pain in the butt game, but I got to the final boss. It took awhile to win and down it went... then suddenly there's a second phase of the boss. That took even longer to beat. We're talking hours at this point. Finally one and had my victory dance. Aaaaaand a third phase of the boss? It killed me in one hit and I sold the game. Screw it.
I realize I could've gone online and found a walkthrough on how to beat each segment easily - there's frequently a trick to it - but that's not much different than cheating to me. No point.
Heck, I have plenty of moments playing games over Xbox Live where I have to stop and realize, "Wow, I'm so pissed off that I'm not having any fun. Time to turn the game off." That's all part of any sort of competition!
DH919 10-08-2010, 10:38 AM So, I've started playing Call of Duty 2... And I've come to realize even more that I suck bad at first person shooters... even on the easiest level, I die on a pretty regular basis... Still a fun game though
Cassie 10-08-2010, 04:08 PM When I saw this thread, the first thing that came to mind was the 2010 Winter Clasic...but that's a different kind of game...
quadracer 10-17-2010, 09:53 AM I bought the new Medal of Honor for xbox, and wow are the graphics/details amazing! When you're following someone, you can see the stitching on their gear. Also, the blood spray isn't the same generic red splash everytime, but a more accurate image, especially when youre smokin hajis with the M82 .50 cal. A headshot actually leaves your target headless!! The missions are quite intense, and when you have to run the guns in an AC130, Predator Drone, and Apache heli, some of my airforce buddies say that's as close as they've ever seen to the real deal. The online multiplayer is a little bit lacking in my ModernWarfare-spoiled opinion, but I would still recommend that you try it out. And, if you don't like it, you can always trade it in on Call of Duty: Black Ops next month!!!
Jazzdrum69 10-17-2010, 06:06 PM looking forward to black ops.
AnthonyJ124 10-17-2010, 06:49 PM I probably put 123,234,658,343,754hours into playing GT once I had collected a bunch of loot. I would build whatever car I wanted, then race it for a while, then reset the system and build another car... Loads of wasted time spent there.
GTA consumed almost the same amount of time, but I think when those games came out I had girlfriends or something...

Gotta admit, Duke N, is a classic and I still remember the original. I am interested in the new one. I hope they keep the beaten up face life meter.
OH and Digital Strippers are cool too.

Super Sneaky Steve 01-11-2012, 07:46 PM Just picked up Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare. It's AWESOME! 10/10!
It's like GTA but better. All head shots makes for good fun. It's only $20 for the PS3 too.

cychotic 01-11-2012, 09:29 PM Battlefield 3?
raginrabbit80 01-11-2012, 09:38 PM The best game I have run into on the ps3 is Uncharted 2. Uncharted was ok. The graphics, the story, and the boss fights are so much better in the 2nd. It's Indiana Jones on steroids. I probably played it twenty times over and never get tired of it. My wife just bought me Uncharted 3 for christmas. She's a good girl! I've been playing Assassin's Creed 2 and the Brotherhood. Very excellent games. Batman Arkham Asylum was very good too. I hear Arkham Island is even better. If you haven't tried it, it's worth the $20.
brickm3 01-11-2012, 10:53 PM If it wasn't mentioned, the Portal series... also, Mirror's Edge was a really cool idea too...
Transient 01-12-2012, 05:38 AM Best ever is tough to say. I'd say Quake, as so many tremendous things started right there. First 3D FPS, foundation of online multiplayer, and so many mods.
My favorite current game is Gears of War 3 on the 360. It's a difficult game to be good at online, but it's more rewarding than other shooters. I have three games laying around that I haven't yet tried because of Gears.
ddemlong 01-12-2012, 10:58 AM U R missing battlefield 3
Transient 01-12-2012, 11:24 AM U R missing battlefield 3
If you've played the single-player campaign, you'd know that BF3 does not belong on any "best game" list. That and the multiplayer, which is a barely incremental upgrade over Battlefield: Bad Company 2. It's not a terrible game, it just doesn't deserve anywhere near the praise that it gets.
Kind of like the last few CoD games.
carlitos_92 01-12-2012, 12:09 PM I'd say Quake, as so many tremendous things started right there. First 3D FPS, foundation of online multiplayer, and so many mods.
You know... I wish that I could go back in time 20 years, to that youthful, naive period in my life, when everything was new and I was still learning something every day... What's it like, T?

Transient 01-12-2012, 12:36 PM I played the crap out of every shooter back then and loved Doom, but Quake felt like a much greater step in the genre. Some of those Doom clones were pretty horrible, but some were a lot of fun.
I miss having nothing but time and money to shovel into PC gaming like those days. "Holy crap, you got a 266?! INSANE!!!!"
carlitos_92 01-12-2012, 02:21 PM I played the crap out of every shooter back then and loved Doom, but Quake felt like a much greater step in the genre.
And Mustangs are faster than the Model T ever was... but you specifically mentioned "first 3D FPS, foundation of online multiplayer, and so many mods" - all of which were done, and done well in the predecessor to Quake, years earlier. DOS shareware on 3 floppies FTW.
Transient 01-12-2012, 02:52 PM Wolfenstein 3D is the Model T of the genre, Chuck. C'mon, now. Between that and thinking Doom was 3D, you're making me sad.
Currently favorite: Skyrim. I've been killing way to much time on that game. The other day we were at a friend's house late and I said to my wife. "It's getting late, I need to get home to my Skyrim wife." :lol2:
I think she is still angry at me.

If "blissfully ignorant" means "writing my own WADs when you were in grade school and playing deathmatches on 80386 computers over a token-ring network" then I am guilty as charged. :-P
I will also admit to not being nearly nerdy enough to delve into the semantics of what constitutes "3D" according to every RPG freak within 5 miles of me.
I don't even think DOOM is the greatest game of all time. But my point was that Quake wasn't the first, original, or greatest anything.
Transient 01-13-2012, 08:59 AM You flash your nerd creds then write off reality as nerdier? Nice. As a little dork, I also created WADs and played limited multiplayer on DOOM. Congrats to both of us, you're welcome to come over and shoot up some stuff sometime.
Beyond that, I'll just disagree and leave it at that, since we're debating different points. I'm happy to whap you in the face with my nerd sausage, but there's no real winner in that.
JBarx 01-13-2012, 09:10 AM This might be the saddest exchange I have ever read on this board.
Selling my Hornet now feels somewhat justified. So thank you for that.
motorico 01-13-2012, 09:15 AM Hmm, this conversation about sausages, faces and WADs...
Seems a bit
