This morning, on the way to work, I was standing on a light with the sun shining brightly right in my face. I had to squint just to see straight. When the light turned green, it took me a moment to take off ... and it saved me from running smack into a homeless guy with a cart full of empty cans! I saw him out of the corner of my eye and squeezed the clutch and the brakes just in time.
Lesson: always make sure that no one's crossing the road and that there aren't any cars about to run the red light before you take off.
PS. Always check your six when you're sitting on the light. Flash your brakes a few times to increase the chances of the driver seeing you. In the worst case, be ready to get out of their way.
