My wife and I are in upper PA for Christmas, and we're on our way home tomorrow. We thought we'd spend a day in Philly since neither of us have been there.

She would like to do the "historical" thing, Independence Hall, etc. I want to do the "cheese steak" thing - meaning I don't care what we see as long as I have a few good days of indigestion afterward.

1) When I'm down near IH, what should we see?

2) I found a website www.bestcheesesteaks.com that seems to point me, not to Pat's, Geno's, or Jim's, but rather to Mama's Pizzeria on Belmont Ave. Anyone else have other favorites?

The Philadelphia Art Museum is not far from Independence Hall. I would take some time to go there.

A word of warning though. That damn city is a bitch to navigate through.

If you've never been, it's a pretty cool place. I only ended up spending 5-6 hours there before we pointed the cage homeward. I wish I had more time.

Philly is a pita to navigate around. Fortunately I had the wife's Accord with navi, so that made it a breeze. I would definitely bring a nuvi or whatever to get around town though.

We had enough time to see Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and then hiked up to Reading Terminal market. That's a great place that you should see. Tons of good food in there. And yes, thanks to Rick's Cheesesteaks (grandson of Pat Oliveri) I had a pretty good cheesesteak before I left town.

Next time I'll have to hit the art museum, spend time in Chinatown, see Edgar Allan Poe's house, etc.
