***UPDATED*** See Post in Pictures (http://www.honda599.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2263)
I picked up a brand new 2006 Honda CRF250X for 4k out the door last weekend.
I'm pretty excited took the baffle out and did some laps around the block but other than that its not even broke in properly yet. The snow were having makes it hard to ride.
Mod's so far are:
Replaced the Rear Dunlop 756 with a Michelin S12
Cycra HandGuards
Works Connection SkidPlate
Pilot and Main Jets
I can't wait for some good weather to ride dirt or street.

The X is a top shelf serious offroad bike. The 230 is a budget air cooled offroad playbike.
I've been seriously considering getting a 230 myself, since I don't think my ability could justify the X.
I used to have a DRZ400S. Lots of fun on that thing!
And yeah PICS!!!!!!!!

I keep getting home late and theres crappy light in my garage for good photos I'll get some photos up soon.
The CRF250X is based off the CRF250R which is the motocross bike.
As Steve said its nothing like a 230. It makes the same HP as the honda XR400 which is an aircooled four stroke, it doesn't make as much torque as the 400 but its pretty impressive the power they are getting out of this thing. I believe the redline is around 12,000 but it makes full HP around 10K
The major differences between the X and R:
Electric Start
Kickstand
Headlight and Taillight(No Break light just a marker light)
Different Cam.
Different Exhaust valves.
Lower rev limiter.(there is a mod to remove the "Pink" wire which turns changes it back to an R)
Same suspension just re tuned for trail use.
Since i mostly do aggressive trail riding and a some jumping I think this is the right bike for me.
I was talking to the guys at the shop and they recommended this indoor track and they said the X is just fine on the track but if you were racing you would want to go with the R obviously.
I recently rode another persons 250x and fell in love thats why i bought this thing it makes good power all over the powerband and it gets better traction than my old 2 stroke gets on the slow sections that have limited traction.

The 230L is for dirt AND street. Right? The 250X is just for dirt?

The crf250x, crf250r, and crf230 are not street legal.
The crf230L however is street legal and i think this(2008) is the first year its in the US
The X has a headlight and tail light that is just a marker light it has no brake relay or turn signals.
You can get the Baja kit for the crf250x and make it streetlegal, although the DMV's are cracking down on that sort of thing and the title says 'for off road use only'
Considering I have a street bike and i feel the 250 isn't really a bike you want to take on the highway, its not geared for the highway and doesn't have enough torque to make it really fun at highway speeds i'll just stick to the dirt. Plus its far too tempting to ride through peoples lawns.
