Pretty interesting diagram if you're deciding between a full-face or an open-face helmet.

I wouldn't be caught dead in a face eraser. I don't know what those guys are thinking when they put those on.

Odd, I don't see Nicky anywhere in that picture...

Oh and GuyD, sometimes you don't land on it... you pile drive into something whilst skidding down the pavement or flying like superman into the side of a car.

In all my prior get offs I've been able to land without the bike crushing my underside leg and then sliding along until I stopped. No broken bones yet! I refuse to highside figuring lowsiding was always the answer. Never rode in congested areas much so I guess I've lucked out by missing the cagers. I think this time around I'll go alot easier, at least in the beginning, LOL. I don't want to think of t-boning a chevy head first, I think that makes for a very bad day.

My initial reaction was almost exactly same. That guy will never be forgotten (forgiven?) for that... :shifty

When I used to ride in the late 80's at the ripe old ages of 19 thru 21 I had two falls at speed and also once drove into a parked car. Once in the rain I decided to test front braking and dumped at around 25 mph. That was no prob, the rain slicked pavement really helped. At another hairpin turn I lowsided at around 30 mph and walked away but felt very lucky not to have gotten more mangled. I was right at the apex and always try to plan a fall so as not to slide off the road. The last one was late at night, drunk, and I was so pissed that some guy was blocking my entrace to my front yard I figured I could split the gap between his car and a wood fence. I slammed the bike into the car at a little faster than walking pace and up jumped my friend who was sleeping in his front seat. We were face to face because I was wedged right next to his driver's side window. At the time we both thought it was hysterical. I got a good thigh bruise and a lucky laugh out of my friend because I did a number on his door. Needless to say my attitude has changed quite a bit since then!

..I refuse to highside...
It's been my opinion that the "high side" chooses you (and no, that's not just in Russia :D ).

The out come is always ruled by 99% by circumstances out of your control, or if you are so inclined, (bad)luck.

Just take it easy

I'd say that's a pretty fair statement. Especially to anyone that's experienced one.

My one and only was about 5 years ago on my uncle's 1979 400cc beast of a dirtbike. The rear tire got caught on the edge of his asphalt driveway when I tried to cross at an improper angle. I remember thinking "well, it looks like I'm going for a nice little slide," then the rear tire caught grip and "popped" me right up and over. I felt like I broke my hip, but my younger kid brother of a cousin was following me on his 4-wheeler, so I played it off pretty cool. He thought it was awsome. And I must confess, it was. 8)
